Paris No 5 I am not a vegetarian. I live in a region where it would be very impractical and expensive to eat vegetarian. A decent amount of hunting happens around here, so meant is readily available. I do not have a problem with eating this sort of meat because the animals being eaten were not born and raised in a box and force-fed through tubes before being slaughtered and packaged. Also, a lot of the animals that are killed here for food also have their other remains used. Their skins and furs are used by aboriginal craft maker people, turning them into shoes, boots, and whatnot. So there is very little waste. My tribal background is how I'm going to school, and that's exactly the way my family has, with the same background, taught me to approach meat and the byproducts. I enjoy meat and always have (it was my first word), but I make an effort to get food (like eggs, for example) raised in a free-range, humane environment and am thankful for the lives taken to sustain mine. I enjoy all food groups, though, so in vegetarian environments I can still enjoy my food. Anyway, the consciousness of plants was brought up and I've occasionally considered the same thing. I've never really had any concrete beliefs regarding the matter but a plant being enlightened seems very natural and believable, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were.

Sweet as... I eat meat, but I feel terrible about it and wish I stop. Even though I understand that it's a world of: eat or be eaten. I was wondering if anyone could help me on the subject?? c: Yellow Bumblebees

Its not about eating meat, its about consuming life itself. The desire to live causing suffering to a food beast. The problem with that sentiment is that all things we consume other then minerals are living. That yogurt you ate yesterday had living bacteria, the salad veggies were living plants. So how far do we take it. As a medical worker (CNA, working toward RN) I know that animal proteans are as important to the diet as plant nutrients. All things in moderation and you will live well.
So when this idea comes to me and I weigh the facts, I come to the realization that I just must remain mindful of the sacrifice given by my food, all of it. And must understand and except that we are all apart of the earth's nutrient cycle and one day I will die and return to that cycle.

I eat meat. I've never thought about avoiding meat. I feel that meat is a necessary part of human diet, but if other people don't want to eat it that's fine by me. The only thing that bothers me is when vegetarians are served meat and throw it away. It bothers me when people waste food. It died for the purpose of feeding someone and throwing it away seems to make the death a complete waste. At least if you eat it and get nutritional value it didn't die in vain.

i have always acknowledged that Plants are just as alive as Animals, and have souls as well. that said, my time spent as a vegitarian 17 years in fact) with the exception of white meat chicken and turkey was only because my mom raised me to believe that that was healthy. to be honest though, i don't feel very healthy, and my body has always craved extra protien foods, such as spinach and beans.
i have never realy liked chicken... i find it bland, flavourless, and too lean for my body type. i used to have a very rapid metabolism (before it got all ******** up by anorexia). i ate very little meat, and only once every once in a while, in small portions. i am 5 feet and 9 and 1/2 inches tall, and i weigh currently 118 lbs. i also found out that poultry is highly prone to parasites and disease, and has to be sprayed thoroughly with potentially deadly poisons, and then very carefully cleaned before distribution. this only made me more interested in vegetarianism.
when i first tried ground beef meetballs, i fell in love. they were so delicious, and felt so right to eat. i could just feel my body thanking me for the real sustenance, the desperately-needed nutrients that i was lacking. i had so much more energy, and felt so much more powerfull. everything was right in the world.
now, i learned some very interesting things about red meat, and beef in particular. red meat had certain types of sugars in it called glucose which help buildup energy that muscle proteins use. it also is good for increasing the strength of red blood cells (especially if you eat it rare). however, beef also has it's unhealthy side. just like poultry, there was an outbreak of disease which contaminated most farm-cows, and the result was a need to biochemically clean the livestock.
to this day, i still eat red meat. it's hard to come by any other type then beef for now, but i don't mind. the hardest thing i have to deal with is that my stepdad is Hindu and so i keep my beef-eating to a minimum. i have only ever had it about 4 or 5 times in my folks' house. i am very glad that i will be moving out now.
i honestly can't survive very well as a vegetarian. i need red meat in my diet. that said, i want to conclude by also saying that i am a cannibal. i have never killed a person to eat, but i am willing to if i have to. i have eaten only small portions of human flesh before. i have no gag-responce to it, and i actually find it quite tasty. ^_^

Thing about this is, there's glucose sources in a lot of stuff. What you really need to build muscle is direct protein intake, and that's a better argument for meat than the glucose thing (because plants are huge carbohydrate sources, which break down into glucose - the same stuff - over time). Even then, I've found chicken to be a better source of the protein most of the time, unless you really feel like eating a lot of beef. xd

Glucose is not found in Plants, however it is possible to be vegetarian because our bodies will naturally convert the other simple sugars into Glucose for us. ^_^ so yes, part of my choice is simply that i like eating beef. not realy a whole lot, but certainly more than i actually get. xp like i said above, i find poultry to be very bland and flavourless. thing is though, there is definitely something particularly healthy about me eating red meat. i can feel it. i am physically better off when i eat red meat, i am healthier when i incorporate it into my body. different people have different diet & exercise needs, because they are individuals. there is no single right way to eat and exercise that is universal.

Same holds true for anything, really - within moderation, just about any food is good for the body. Including chocolate, fat, and all sorts of things people write off as unhealthy. Always the Middle Way. xd As for the feeding to the dog thing, I wouldn't do that anyway. Might screw the animal up - oddly enough, I've seen dogs get really sick from eating from the people table, and although my three cats try every time there's a meat, egg or milk dish anywhere near my table, they don't get anything from it because of that. xd

You'd think that about cats, but the truth is most become lactose intolerant as they age. They still know the smell of the fats though, so they try to eat it...but the two girls I've got have both made themselves sick on leftover milk from dishes. 3nodding
