Matasoga was in terror of he idea of being stuck with Alexx and this was to be avoided at all costs. The only one that he had spoken to in class that he hadn't regretted speaking with was Pheobe. He quickly looked to her and said, "Would you care to be my partner?"
He was also rather enthused about learning such a fascinating spell with such possibilities. He was also eager to advance in level, power, and ability. He had high ambitions for the power that he wanted to amass. Some of it was racial, some of it militant, and some of it arcane.

"Uh, sure." Mel was a bit hesitant from Matasoga's quick response, but she decided she might as well partner with him. Alexx was starting to get on her nerves, and the other guy, Daniel, looked a bit afraid of her for some reason. Can't be friends with everyone...

He nodded, rather than smiled. He didn't want to give the wrong impression. He was more interested in the curriculum than his peers, though it had not ceased to be true that she was a much preferable choice for a partner than the others.
He silently watched the others and held his movements, awaiting further instruction from the teacher or actions from his peers before beginning. He assumed that they would be casting the spell on each other, but it would have been foolish, to his thinking, to move ahead with such an assumption uninstructed.

Daniel looked around the room once lizard-boy and goth-girl had been partnered, and saw no one. Maybe since I don't have a partner, I won't have to go, a hopeful voice echoed in his dome. Yeah, and maybe Alysa will get up out of here wheelchair, fly all the way here from Miami and visit, a darker voice retorted sarcastically, if thoughts could have tone. Now, quit being ADHD and focus.

『Alexx looked around, and saw that Matasoga and Mel already partner up...』
Lets see... She thought to herself. With New guy out with Mel, and Kristalee; who hates me, out puking, and Stephan out with Kristalee, that leaves me with... She looked around the class room, and saw one guy, who seemed to be not paying attention. She sighed, and turned her body towards the guy... Who she had no idea was..."Hey, dude," She called out, trying to attract his attention. "Looks like we're partners by default." She said, obviously annoyed... She turned back towards the front of the classroom, and leaned an elbow on her desk, and started to rub her temples quietly... She was getting really annoyed today...

Daniel raised an eyebrow over to the girl calling to him, and then frowned. This was just great. Lizard-boy and Goth-girl had partnered, leaving him with... Another, even angrier-looking girl. Oh jeez. I just can't catch a break, can I? He shook his head, and shrugged as he scooted over a few seats. "So... I'm Dan. What's your name?" he asked, trying to smile sincerely. Maybe the angry goth look was just popular this time of year, and the two girls were just fashion-trendy? He had no idea. But he figured if he tried to be nice, maybe the favor would be returned... At least, by someone.

She sighed, and rolled her eyes. He was trying to be nice... She hated when people tried to be nice to her..."The name's Alexx, kid... Alexx Bane, school of death. And now, I guess I have to ask... Whats your school?"She asked, not sounding very interested with what ever his answer was going to be...

"Um... Fire," he said, raising an eyebrow. She asked the question, and yet didn't even listen to the answer... pointless. "And, you know. Don't call me kid, alright? It's a little condescending... And it doesn't look to me like you have much of a right to feel superior to anyone," he said, shrugging. He didn't say it like he was trying to start a fight. He was simply stating a point, and didn't seem to register the fact that it probably was very insulting. In fact, he almost sounded cheerfully oblivious as he said it.

Mrs. Tundra sensed the tension in the classroom, and quickly tried to avoid it turning into anger. "Okay, so who would like to present the spell to the class first? If someone doesn't volunteer, I will gladly pick a group." She smiled. The classroom was big enough to do such a spell.

Matasoga was loathe to seem over-enthusiastic but it was his ambitions to gain power and be recognized that moved him. His drive to expand, disseminate, and to master this spell was what drove him, now.
"I'll try," he offered, in a somewhat passive tone, waiting to see if his offer were to be acknowledged. This would also help him determine if the teacher had in fact intentionally omitted him from the introductory period of class.

Melanie gave Matasoga a nod of permission, then looked for confirmation by the teacher. Better to do this sooner than later. As she waited, she tried to ready herself for the impact of the spell. She wasn't afraid of being killed, but it was better to squeeze in some defensive practice when she could. There was no telling when the next battle might start.

"Alright. You two, up here." She nodded to the two students who volunteered to go first.

Matasoga took his place at the front, assuming that it was acceptable to start whenever he was ready. As a courtesy, he waited for his partner to brace herself, again.

Melanie placed herself in Matasoga's view, standing straight but also placing her feet so the spell would not potentially knock her to the ground. Her arms lay at her side and her mouth was closed. She only breathed through her nose, controlling each breath at a steady rhythm, not too quick or shallow. Mel wondered if she could breathe against the spell, rendering it useless, and she made sure to keep calm.

She nodded to Matasoga again when she was ready. Hit me with your best shot.

Matasoga closed his eyes, trying to remember in exact detail the exact somatic components of the spell. He felt the arcane glands that produced his breath weapon tighten and contract as the energies flowed through him.
He fought against this. This is supposed to be about wizardry, study, and books, not natural talent, draconic blood, and sorcery, he thought. He stood for a few long seconds, forcing those glands to relax and visualized the arcane energies flowing down from his mind, visualizing diagrams and arcane theorums. He could not simply let the spell happen as he always has. Not if he was to progress as a wizard.
With a deep breath and calculated movements, ending with the ball top of the 3 and a half foot wand (which he grasped like a staff and was not strictly necessary) pointed at the target he made the spell happen.
