Markl soon entered the village, seeing that it was as he remembered; a light in every second story window, and another one the doorsteps of every shop. Everyone in the village knew each other, so there was no need to be afraid. He continued through the village, remenicing of all the times he shared with his sister and friends. Markl smiled and continued walk up a small lane towards his home.

Sophie began to panic. "Alright, let's stop at this village! Just stop wasting your energy," she told him, concerned for his health. They began to walk toward the entrance to a small, seemingly quiet village. As they approached, they took no notice of Markl walking off into the dark, not too far ahead.
Sohpie looked at the people, huddling around their fires in front of their houses and the children running around. "It's so nice here...This is where the search spell led you, right? Why would Markl come here..."

As Markl walked up the path, he saw the lights in the second story windows on. He smiled and hurried towards the door and knocked. There was shuffling from inside, and then the door opened, reavealing a tall girl of about 18 with long brown hair tied into two braids. "Yes, can I help yo--" she started to say but then saw Markl standing on the door step. "Markl!" She exclaimed, coming from the house and hugging her little brother. "Its so good to see you! I've missed you so much," she said, starting to cry a little.
"I'm sorry I took so long to come home, Asuna. I was really caught up with working for Lord Pendragon," Markl said, using one of Howl's alias'.
"Dont' worry about that, come in! Come in," Asuna said, letting go of her brother and walking in with him. Once inside, they closed the door and headed into the living room.

Heh... Asuna.... that's the name of one of the main characters in the manga I've been reading lately... sweatdrop
"I don't know why he would come here, I never heard Markl say anything about family, either..." Howl said as he looked around at the people who were starting to stare at them.

Markl followed Asuna into the living room, and sat down in one of the chairs by the fire. "Do you want anything?" Asuna asked him. He shook his head.
"I'm fine.... I just wanted to come see you and mom," Markl said smiling. Asuna looked towards the floor as she sat down. "Asuna? What's wrong?"
"Its mother.... She's rather sick... I'm just... So glad you came here before she died," Asuna said, shifting her gaze to look up at Markl. He paled slightly, hearing what his sister had to say.

Just a question...what's Markl's physical appearance? The movie and book are pretty different so I'm just making sure... "I'm sure Markl stopped here for rest..." Sophie assumed. She looked up at Howl with eyes that said she was concerned about him, but the words that came out of her mouth said, "Do you still have enough strength for just even just a tiny hint as to where he might be staying?" I feel guilty for relying on Howl's magic so much... she thought and bit her lip. But we're so close...If we sleep now, Markl might walk off in the morning before we even wake up, and who knows how long it'll take us to get to him then...Before Howl could reply, Sophie shook her head. "No, you sleep first." She handed him a small pouch of money. "Use this at that hotel-looking thing at the corner of town. Get us a room, and only a room," she reminded him, knowing he could end up buying souvenirs and accessories if she hadn't. "I'll go around asking the villagers if they've seen Markl. I won't be too long, so don't worry." And with that, she ran over to the first house she saw, hoping someone had the information they needed.

I'm keeping Markl's appearance closer to the movie.. but he's older than what they have him in the movie... But how old do you think he is in the movie?
"How bad is she?" Markl asked, still looking down at the floor.
"She's been bed ridden for quite some time..." Asuna said, her voice very quiet, though loud enough Markl could hear.
"How did she get sick?" He inquired, shifting his gaze to look over at Asuna.
"She was out in the village doing a few errands while it was stormy, near the winter season...." Asuna explained slowly.

Calcifer waits in the castle for a few hours before he grows bored....
"That's it! I'm moving this hunk of junk!" and with that, his flames grew and the castle began it's slow journey towards the mountain...

Markl felt worse as Asuna continued to explain. "I shouldn't have gone to go learn from Master Howl... I should have helped you and mother around here," Markl said, gesturing to the house.
"Markl... It's not your fault. You wanted to become a magician, and you followed through with that dream," Asuna said, standing and moving to sit next to Markl; She pulled him into a hug.

He looked really young in the movie...My mouth wants to splurt out five years old but there's no way in the freaking world of chocolate covered bunnies that it could happen...err, right? ^^;; Well, we are talking about Ghibli so they'd make him a child genius if it fit with the story I suppose... But basically, you're playing this Markl right?  Sophie made a dash behind a house and waited to see Howl go into the hotel. After making sure he got in alright, she sighed and walked out. Now...who should I ask? she inquired as she made her way down the rows of houses. Her stare caught the stares of several adults huddled around their fires and caught Sophie a bit off guard. She folded her arms together uneasily. "You'd think they'd never seen a human before," she muttered. Soon, she caught sight of a warm-faced family. Two children were running around catching firelflies and the mother was cooking some scraps of fish. "Excuse me..." Sophie began. The woman looked up. "Yes, how may I help you?" "This may seem a little strange, but did a boy of about this high come through here?" she asked, measuring her hands to where Markl's height seemed to be. "He had sort of...messy light brown hair...and I think he was wearing a dark blue cloak..."

Markl hugged Asuna, and then stood up. "You can get some sleep. I'll help mum," he smiled. Asuna nodded slightly and yawned.
"Can you go and pick up something for me? Its at the small town store," Asuna said, taking a list from her pocket, and handing it to Markl.
"Yeah, I'll be right back," he said, turning and grabbing his cloak, and then leaving the house. He started to walk to the village market, looking over the list as he did.

"No...I'm sorry, but I don't pay attention to tell you the truth," she said embarrassed. "And we have quite a few light brown-haired boys running around this place," she added, gesturing towards her own two boys.
Sophie shook her head regrettingly, but smiled. "It's alright. Thank you..." And so she continued to walkaround aimlessly. Soon, she reached a small forest that was at the very back of the town.
Could he possibly be in there? she wondered and looked back. I really should ask more people but...it doesn't look that bad. I doubt there are any wild beasts this close to a village or else they wouldn't have built it here. So she started to walk into the dark green leaves, just barely missing Markl.

Markl collected several items from the store, and headed back home. He was carrying a rather large bag, which partially obscurred his sight. It was rather hard for him to take the turn around a corner properly, causing him to walk into a fence. He dropped the bag, and landed on the ground.
"There's more stuff in here than I thought," he muttered, standing and starting to pick up the items and replace them back into the bag.

As Sophie wandered deeper into the woods, she jumped as a hand suddenly touched her shoulder. "What're you doin' out here so late, missy?" a middle-aged man's voice said through the dark. His hand was still on her shoulder and she tried to move away. "I-I'm looking for a friend of mine. His name is Markl..." His grip did not loosen. "Markl, eh? I've heard of him but that boy hasn't been back to this village in quite some time..." He moved his face closer to Sophie's. "Why not wait for him at my place?" By this time, Sophie struggled harder to get free. "No...l-let me go!" she screamed, kicking him in the groin. As he fell onto the ground, she broke free and started running back to the village. Out of nowhere, he grabbed her by the arm and flung her towards the ground. "That really hurt there, you know...And you know what happens to little girls who act bad..." He put his hand over her mouth, but she bit it fiercly and screamed. " H-Howl!!" Whoo-hee, so much drama o.O;; Come save her Markl! xd

Do you want him to come help you?
Markl looked up, hearing a familiar name screamed out. "Sophie..?" He said, recognizing the outcry. Dropping his bag, he took off in the direction of the scream. "Please be ok... Please let her be ok," he said as he ran. Markl continued into the woods, heading for where he think her heard the scream. Scream again Sophie.. I need to know where you are...
