He followed up, yes indeed cringing at the sun...good lord how long had it been since he'd been exposed to the fricking sun. Good time to have long bangs, they at least shaded his eyes. Though a nod to his daugter, he'd let her have a go first before getting in on the game. Thusly he stood on deck across from where the first mate stood, trying to get a glance at the landscape, troublesome with the glare he was getting from lack of exposure to the sun. "So...why it is all sand?"

She was still slightly pissy seeing as even her father seemed to doubt how vulnerable she was or was not. Were people always going to doubt her and never take her word? She had half a mind to spend the next two days of travel learning every part of this ship and then show that cocky b*****d of a pirate just how capable she was. Though a sideglance to her father, voice still laced, "Fifteen and a half seconds, and Sevilin will subdue him with runes. Then the cursing will come. That is of course if he even 'wastes the energy'." Rolling her eyes, Sevilin was funny like that.

Des got a frown back seeing as Bell got that look. Kaz was far from dense...just logic oriented. He made his fair share of anaolgies and innuendos from time to time but he would always be a and of logic. "Didn't know you used to hold Mister Richard's job...he must be quite smug about it." Though a pleased look as it seemed Kaznec was going to take well to this cooking thing, and it seemed as well that she had been enlisted to be the one doing the teaching. No problem with her, she liked to cook. "Don't worry, I'll teach you what's what and how to tell them apart. Then you can have all the fun you want with your experimenting." To his noise of disagreement though, she mimicked it, "Wrong. Being Commander is part of who you are, but you are not just Commander."

Hunter got himself up, and pointed his crossbow directly at her chest.

"even without eyes, I could find you, wench."

before throwing the item on his desk.

"You damned elves and your damned magic. I hate your kind for it and I'd wished they'd died in the damned Storms."

before taking a moment to find his chair and settle in it with a growl. though his eyes could not see, they were filled with a cold, terrible, malice.

"your arrogance and your pride and your interference in buisness that is not yours. all your kind are such. always have been. you think your little gift of ageless life makes you so damn superior. am I ready to play nice, you ask. I am never, ever, going to be ready to play nice with people like you. at least the other girl knows well enough that buisness between us is between us. she interferes with no one else on my ship, and she coexists finely that way. You, however, feel teh need to interfere with the lives of others."

leaning forward.

"You took and retrained my messenger dogs leader. you interfere with myself and your friend's little dispute. You interfered with my dealings with Desdemona, and even know you interfere with all this crew and this mission you have been thrown into by blinding me for no other reason that your impulse and pride!"

throwing a glass in her direction, and standing up again, though obviously he didn't move very far from his desk. his blindness kept him chained.

"You should be lucky that I send you to teh bring and not have your throat slit while you 'sleep' elf wench."

growling again and sitting back in his chair again.

"I don't find you vulnerable you know. just odds are against you if he's right. a ship of 90 people, even if you sightgrafted someone, you wouldn't see but maybe a third of what's around you. though I think you could handle yourself fine. luck could turn on you fairly easily."

A small grin.

"oh come now. sevilin will at least try reasoning first while parrying with his polearm...that should take about 30 seconds."

Desdemona growled a bit.

"He only got the position because of that human I ate before. and I was locked away. but so far he has seemed a fine first mate. a little more...passive than myself. but I'll have my own position back soon enough I'll wager."

Mister richards glanced at the drow.

"The entire world was consumed in massive storms. they bore red lightning, and much of this world was destroyed. most of her water's dried up, boiled away, evaporated. these storms were constant, ever moving, and covered the skies. at least that's what history tells us. few pockets have survived. atolls, city-states. and of course, those of us that live on teh sand seas."

She stared at him for a long moment, then reared back as though she'd been slapped. "Obviously you hate my kind. I don't hate yours but I can understand your bitterness. I didn't use my magic maliciously, as you might claim, Captain Hawk. I did it with a sure purpose in mind, one that if you would take a few moments to think about a few things, you might begin to understand a little better. However, I see you have used this time to figure out all my crimes so let me answer those first. "Sundance came to me. Animals do. She had no tags, no collar and no mark of ownership and she chose me. I merely shaped our relationship so I could keep her from causing harm to ones that posed no threat." She was not going to apologize for one of the only things she was good at.

"As for Lady Silverfeather D'vinn and I, we came as a packaged deal. If you mess with her you get me. If you mess with me, you get her. You have yet to mess with me without irritating her first. Half of what she does to you, she does on account of your crimes against me. Keep that in mind next time you decide to toss someone over the deck or slap another around. We are not yours to beat, reprimand, or bed. We are thinking, breathing, beings who have feelings and abilities just like anyone else on this ship. We are not helpless and we will help you but I choose who I help, the same as you. I am not above holding a grudge and I am not above denying someone something because I feel a wrong has been done to me personally. Elves and humans are not that different. However, that is not the reason I blinded you, but we have one more crime to address."

"Desdemona, whom I assume is the one who was caged in the cave. When I came to find you it was to save you. I sensed, with my awful magic, that the caverns were going to cave in and I was worried about you. I came to warn you and get you out of there. Your own defensiveness gave away your secret. Desdemona cried out to me but Kaznec took me away before I could help her. I don't know how she got free or what is between you two and that is none of my concern. As long as she leaves me and mine alone, she will have nothing to fear from me." Pausing a moment, she folded her hands against her abdomen and shook her head.

"The reason I blinded you is very simple, Captain Hawk. Part of it was to pay you back for your crimes against someone I consider an extension of myself. An eye for an eye as you humans are so fond of claiming. The other part is so that you would have a greater understanding of something you could not unless you yourself lived it. Lady Silverfeather D'vinn is blind, yes, but she functions perfectly well. She can eat, reverie, and move about without anyone's aid. She has learned to cope and compensate for her blindness. You used that against her. Threw in her face how vulnerable she was and made her feel as if she was worth nothing. I wanted to teach you that even those with physical impairments are important and deserve respect. But instead of excelling at the challenge I set out for you, you retreated. You have kept yourself secluded away, hardly even moving from one spot. Your things were moved so that the normal life you so comfortably lived would no longer be there. You would have been dealing with new territory and you could have used something aside from your eyes to learn your surroundings. But you sit there on the bed, too afraid to even get up. You sent your first mate after me instead of coming down yourself and you still refuse to embrace the lesson. Understanding the obstacles another faces can only help you in the end. I'm sorry you are too blind to see that."

It seemed a fair deal. She would teach him to cook and he would stop acting like Commander all the time. Eventually he'd get the hang of it. Eventually. "And you will have the job of tasting all my projects." A glimmer of impish play in his golden eyes as he imagined the look on her face if he made something hardly edible. Half disapproval, half amusement. Something akin to the look she would give him when a joke went right over his head. But it seemed as though Desdemona ignored his question completely. No matter, he was only making casual conversation. He was beginning to think that they were not going to become friends anyways. Humans were not food. Briefly though, he wondered how she could be walking around dressed like that...

"It's not the be all and end all of what I am capable of, though some seem to make a point of making it just that. He thinks he's so right...being able to see can be just a hinderance an not being able to...eyes can be decieved."Huffing lightly then in perhaps what one could call frustration. "They're human...its easy to do something as simple as plant a fast spreading disease among them and watch them drop like flies." Some could call her cocky and stubborn...very potent combination of mother and father in both attributes. And then a shrug. "Ten to reason, five to parry, half a second to rune. Much as I'm budging is eighteen seconds."

Uh oh, growling...bad. "Sorry, didn't know it was a touchy subject." A squint at the older dragoness in the room with them as she mentioned eating humans again. "And you ate that one because?" The first time she could kinda say it was in survival over not eating in a while, but it having happened more than once? Ew. But her attention veered to Kaznec, ha she had roped his fancy and anchored it to the docks so to speak. "I'll steel my stomach just in case, Kaz." At least she would get to spend some time with him, and time spent with him was both enjoyable and fun...he didn't judge and watch everything she did, or be short and snide with her when she did flaw.

"Hm...fascinating. Why you would stay in such a place is beyond me, as I'm sure there's some form of planes travel avaliable to you." Or maybe humans didn't want to use it because it frightened them. Sevilin tilted his head a bit more to shade his eyes better. Damnable sun was a horrid horrid thing. At least it seemed it was making its decesent. "Desolate wastelands can only hold but so much treasure to plunder..."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 01, 2007 8:21 pm

"He does have good swordsmanship for a human though. and I admit, your right, a nice case of leprosy would do wonders. I think his point though was you wouldn't get the chance. the way he made it sound, this other guy they are looking to avoid would have just attempted to kill you the second he saw you. I still lower mine to thirty. but I still bet it'd be more than twenty."

Hunter listened, at least half-heartedly...before getting himself up, and walking around his desk and standing before it, hand resting on his cutlass.

"Again, you assume things that only you elves do. I send my first mate because that is is job on this ship. to do things for me, to handle the disciplines I give out. no cowardice involved. You blinded me for no other reason than your magic lets you and your pride. you friend was in no danger from me, adn you knew that. I can't touch her or you with my weapons without invoking the wrath of that little star eyed pain in my a**."

unseeing eyes were still cold, adn his voice had a tone of violence.

"You are on my ship. things that effect my ship I can reprimand and do more for. I told you to go below decks because there are people on this sandsea that are more dangerous to your kin than I am, adn are not bound by the rules that I am thanks to that little pest. When I say go below, you go below. I don't issue orders to hear myself talk. my ship, and my crew, come before you or any other passenger on this boat. I don't care if you think you are important, I don't care if you think or if you even can 'handle yourselves'."

taking a step forward, and drawing his weapon, tapping his thigh with the blade.

"people with physical impairments that do not learn that they are not as viable in every situation as those without said impairments get people killed here. this isn't your little homes, this isn't some mighty castle or elvish land where you have your own private guards and armies and magical toys and warnings. I don't give a s**t if she can see a hundred feet around her or if she's strong enough to toss a man a hundred yards. without her magic the is blind. she cannot see. and in the case of her having to fend off well over the number of my crew, or getting my crew killed and my ship sank, because she wants to be a stubborn b***h and think every time I tell her to do something that doesn't involve her playing with the rest of the crew is picking on her obvious liability, then I will take action accordingly."

"This time I chose to give her a bit of a lesson on the ship, and captain we're trying to avoid, and make a very direct point that she cannot see everything around her all the damn time. and your response was to blind me for it. you had no right to interfere, package deal or not, and you sure as god damned hell have no right to judge me on my ship!"

waving the cutlass up in the air abit.

"You've never sailed before. you've never broken a sweat manning a ship or running her through the sands. you've never hunted down the sandworms or seen men ripped apart by sand sharks. I've got b*****d children that I've never seen that probably have more knowledge and respect for the sands in their baby fingers than you and your friend have in your entire elvish bodies."

"you're kind always think your somehow better than everyone else. that because we're finite and human that no matter what we do, your superior because your elvish. that your kind should be most loved, because your just that beautiful and graceful. that your so naturally strong, so that you don't need to pay attention to anyone but other elves or dragon-kin. and I've killed many of your kind for such stupidity."

pointing the cutlass in her direction, swinging it a few times as well.

"I don't need to understand what it is to be blind. I don't need to know such garbage, because as your friend has pointed out, and you point out, she isn't blind as long as she has her bird and her cursed magics. So you blind me for spite and use that as an excuse. so sorry that I can't see through a birds eyes or however the hell she sees to get the entire package of 'what it's like for the poor blind bitchy necromancer'."

Desdemona snorted lightly.

"I've eaten only two humans in my life. that wretch that cost me my life on the Chimera, adn the Chimera's previous owner who wanted to kill Hunter after he won the Chimera from him in a card game. and that one I only ate his hand because I bit it off. the other one I ripped his arm off and decided to snack on it after I beat him to death with it."

though a glance at Kanzec.

"the little star child banned me from being ont eh Chimera. she wanted me to go hunting for some rainbow shards and I wasn't to set foot ont he chimera without bringing one back."

"Actually, there's not for humans that I am aware of. only the elves practice such magics, or are even capable of practicing them. and they refuse to share those secrets. It's become a growing resentment. Some think they are afraid that they would lose a great deal of thier influence if they were to allow planar travel. some think they can't do it, only claim to. hence the reason they won't 'share' it."

A small shrug.

"the most sympathic theory is that they worry if they gave everyone the chance to travel off the plane..that they would lose all of humanity. then thier hope to rebuild and try to bring this plane back to some semblance of what it used to be would be all in vain."

a small smile.

"As to plunder...there is much in these sands. the whole plane...adn all ehr former empires, countries, kingdoms...everything they had done, built, made, all their coins and gems are somewhere in the sands. No one to my knowledge has every been able to claim knowing all of the sands and all her secrets."

"We went below. The only reason I am up here is because you called for me." Shyrae blinked as he tangented on a truly bitter spiel and shook her head. "I stand by the reasons I blinded you. It was not an excuse, it was an attempt to show you a different world. I was expecting you to rise to the challenge and gain your sight back. I told you when you learned the lesson you needed to learn, your sight would be restored. It had nothing to do with my feelings for you or any other human and it had nothing to do with thinking I was superior."

Things were beginning to make a bit more sense as she listened to his impassioned diatribe and she frowned, "You're nothing more than a racist. You hate anything you don't understand or fear. You don't like the Laerethe, elves, or dragons. I can't speak for others' opinons, I only know my own. I'm quite young for my kind and perhaps I was a little short with you in the beginning but the way we met was far from satisfactory. And had you been an elf, you would have gotten the same reaction."

Taking a deep breath, she sighed. Obviously he wasn't going to see reason. Though his comments regarding Savvy caused her to step forward. "You have no idea what I've gone through or what I've learned. You don't know about where I come from or what it's like for me there. Let me let you in on a little secret, Captain Hawk. Lady Silverfeather D'vinn hates everyone and everything. You aren't special and neither is your ship. And if I wasn't around, she would have long ago killed you. You trample her pride, you constantly belittle her abilities and make her feel inadequate and you turned her into an object of lust when you first met her. If you want to turn your own women into whores then so be it, but don't expect to do it to us and then befriend us. And before you say anything, that's not an 'elven' issue, that's most women who have any respect for themselves and their own bodies."

She laughed dispassionately. "Humans brought our opinion down on themselves. They are so jealous over what they do not posses, just like you with the accusation that we are hiding something from you. Although I do wish you weren't so against my race. Obviously an elf has hurt you in the past. I am sorry for that but hating an entire race because of the crimes of one is foolish. When I was five years old, I got separated from my siblings and three humans tried to kill me. I was helpless against them, having no more control over my magic than they did over the way their bodies grew. Don't preach to me about elven bigotry. And don't pin the crimes of one, ten, or even a hundred on an entire race. That's a surefire way to get yourself killed. I've encountered my share of human animosity and yet I have healed you, helped you and tried to save you in the caverns and would do so again. Fie on me for hating you and your kind so much."

He was slicing into old wounds, throwing hatred that he'd obviously had for a very long time against her and she didn't deserve it. She'd never done anything to him except try to help and accomodate him. She had nothing against humans as a race but certain humans were insufferable. There was no reason for her take the abuse he was throwing and she was getting more and more upset the longer she stood there letting each whiplash crack into her. She'd been outgunned by his hatred in the beginning and trying to get him to see more than his own little world was foolish. He was an embittered man adn there was nothing more that she could do. Lifting her hand she scribed the rune to undo the one that had tricked his mind into believing he was blind. "Your sight is restored, Captain. I assume I am free to go. If not, merely come and let me know."

Turning so he wouldnt' see the tears gathering in her eyes, she fled.

Needless to say, he disapproved greatly of Desdemona's methods in dealing with humans. Perhaps it was a pirate thing. As nauseating as it was, he could see Captain Deacon eating a dragon's meat after he'd pillaged everything of value off its body But turning eyes on the female again as he was finally replied to. Little star child... That would be Eilynne. There was no one else on the ship which such fascinating eyes, that he knew of. "I take it you haven't found any then. Have you ever heard of or seen these rainbow shards in your time?" Then smiling lightly to Jae as she took kindly to his slightly devious proposition before he turned eyes to the crackling fire. "Are they ready yet?"

"I understand what he's getting at, but at the same time he still continues to act like I am worth nothing. He is biased by his own thoughts...before he knew I was blind for all intensive purposes, he thought that I was quite the little point of interest. No matter what his own thoughts behind his preception, the point is the moment I am seen as not totally useful, I'm no more than a hinderance on this ship. If I wanted, I could sink this whole thing and kill everyone on board in a practical moment's notice...yet I am behaving, am I not?"

Of course Malik knew that part of the reason her attitude was so bad, apart from the whole necromancer occupation giving her a bad impression right off, was that she was merely defensive about herself. More than once when she was younger others had tried to take advantage of her with her lack of sight and it had been something that once she got older, she learned she could prevent. This was how she did it...rarely did she trust anyone outside of her immediate family and those under her House crest especially once they turned on her if they found out about her eyes. "I bet he couldn't even tell you what colors my eyes are." Sure, her eyes were clouded over, but they still had color visible somewhat.

He blinked at the way things were phrased and then shrugged lightly. "Some things are dangerous, planes travel being one of those things. Though I applaud you for knowing what it is, more humans let themselves be ignorant to such fanicful things." Frowning some...this sun was killing him. "A body not well honed for such an even can go into shock and ruin quite quickly when forced between worlds as such. Though the rest does have merit in theory." Raising an eyebrow lightly, half listening to the yelling that was going on behind the door they were by, "Sand does have a way of both hiding and revealing things, ever changing so you never know it's plan."

Blinking and reached a hand out to catch his daughter around the middle as she came out and he pulled her to him, giving her a comforting squeeze...it was easy to see that she was upset but not in the angry way. "Are you alright?" Looking to the door and making decisions, he was going to have to see this captain, if anything just to lay eyes on him. But for the moment, comfort to his daughter.

"I can't imagine the taste of one." It just seemed so...wild and animalistic to her. She had never had cause to even think about it, let alone even bite a human for some reason. Maybe when she was a hatchling she nipped, but they all did...it's how they tested thier world somewhat. But a pondering look on then mention of shards. "It's hard to find them when we have no pattern as to how they're scattered or why...a logical pattern would be much welcomed here." Shaking her head before perking up at Kaz. "Lemme take a look." Thusly with the eye of both strategist and inventor, she checked and gave a nod. "I do believe so." Thusly letting her hands transform to thier natural look of dragon paws, using talons adn scales that protected somewhat against fire to pull out the items and set them on the counter before a quick tranformation back to more dexterous fingers, blowing on her hands some as if to cool heat. "Give them a moment to cool slightly before you pluck them from thier tins."

"He's nothing but a racist human and I don't have time to go round and round with him on why elves aren't superior or why humans are better of without them. I never did anything to him but it's pretty clear to me that he isn't going to see reason." A shake of her head and she dropped her head onto his chest. "He wasn't even really blinded. I just played with his mind a little and I gave him clues and increased awareness to help him. I just wanted to help open his mind to some things...like what you did that one time to Kelligrin to teach him a lesson."

Hunter fumed in his cabin. even if he had his sight back. damned elves. always so haughty, always so superior. everyone else were just little children to be trained and taught lessons to. nevermind they weren't sailors, they didn't know this lifestyle but oh heaven forbid he point that out. he gets blinded for that, because he needed to be trained to taught better.

But now that he had his sight back, he moved to the charts on his table, marking their course, judging the timetables and the territory. they could make it without seeing Fang. even if he had noticed them by now, his ship was slower, and wouldn't be able to catch them without help of some sort.

Once he was able to do what he needed to do, Hunter's temper calmed quite a bit. Sailing, and being able to control his ship was an addiction to Hunter. to be unable to do things, drove him to great anger and fury. had a dragon done this deed, he'd probably had a similar speech for them if they'd confronted him on it. He wasn't really a racist. you could almost say he was a drug addict, his drug being the Chimera and the Sand Sea.

Though it was quite clear that the natural highborn nature of elves grated on his nerves more than most.

"Probably not. But I think you're thinking too hard on it. How about this...offer your help to the ship work. hold your own in teh daily duties of the ship, and see if his attitude doesn't change. So far, we've not really done anything more than be passengers that help with things when they make port or stop someplace. Couldn't hurt to see if he really does find you less useful."

A small chuckle.

"and yes, you are behaving remarkably well. is that because I'm here? is my presence reigning in those destructive tendencies some?"

"I've spent the past several years locked in a cave that was comfortable, but solitary. I haven't heard much of anything about anything. and no, I haven't found one. the only things I've found are nomadic boats and the Serpent from a distance."

yes, she was quite disappointed. she wanted back on the Chimera.

Mister Richards gave a raise of the eyebrow.

"Racist? I've never known the captain to be racist. maybe a bit less...hospitable to elves, but that's about it. But I can't say he doesn't have his reasons. Perhaps you'd like to go below and get something to eat from the galley or the like. I can issue the orders to make an exception for your case."

Yes, Mister Richards was Hunter's PR and diplomat. one of the reasons he was first mate was his ability to go from gruff sailor and first mate to hospitable and gentler diplomat.

Comfortingly he pet at her hair, rustling her braiding some with the action before giving her a light squeeze of a hug in comfort. He's never been very brilliant at comforting othere, but he had a good grasp on it. But a not to her technique. "Ah yes, that old trick...you did it to Kelligrin when he purposefully moved a chair when she was in the house and we had told him not to do anything of the sort." It was a common thing in the two households back home. When Savryn was around, she knew where things were and how far they went and they didn't purposefully move things just to move them and mess her up. Kelligrin learned his lesson. "Sometimes dear, humans wont' see to reason no matter how much you can make a point...they grow bitter and become sunk up to thier eyes in such a thing and it's all they can see. Everyone is subject to it."

Looking to the first mate whom was carrying a much better attitude. "Take if from the dark elves...we know what the terms mean and how to properly apply it. Some may not see it as thus because they do not act out on thier thoughts, merely think them. Don't fool yourself." A nod an looking down to Shyrae. "Is that a good idea? Want to go get something to eat?" And he could check out this captain, personally.

"Ha. He wouldn't let me near anything on this place because I may mess it up or break it or something. MAybe even intentionally" Shaking her head lightly...though admittedly she could probably prove a thing or two...it wasn't like she walked around constantly looking around through Chy's eyes or someone else's. It was a very advanced technique for someone of her age and power level and it was horribly draining...and if she tapped into someone she couldn't handle, she got backlashed like she had when they were at that old graveyard. First mate would probably let her. Then again Hunter may let her just to try and watch her fail.

But dark blue tipped ears twitched to his chuckling and drew her gaze then. "Don't give yourself too much credit daddy. You've had your pull over said tendencies, but it hasn't always worked." Letting her arms drop from thier crossed position and relaxing her aggressive position some. "I'm trying to be good for Shyrae's sake. She still tries to take care of me and that can get her introuble sometimes." Granted she didn't like people thinking they needed to take care of her since she couldn't see, but everyone still did, parents and friends included. Something she could overlook from that lot. They knew when to let her do things alone after all. "Kinda of like the way mama tries to keep you under control."

"Well that's just silly. Even Mama will concede a point when she knows she's wrong and she's more stubborn than he is." Jerking her thumb back to indicate Hunter. It was annoying to be called to account for your behavior, give explanations and reasons for it all, and then have a lecture slapped in your face because of who you happened to be. "He doesn't know the first thing about oppression. Make his skin obsidian and send him to the surface. That ought to teach him a thing or two." Grumbling under her breath about it all.

"I suppose. Though I don't need someone to cook, I can do it myself. Captain Deacon has a full plate of cookies in his cabin. If you'd like some, Mister Richards, help yourself. He doesn't deserve such a treat." Thus pulling away from her father lightly and heading down below to the galley. "What do you want to eat, Daddy? I replenished and expanded his spice collection as best I could but it won't be the way Mama makes it."

A look to the first mate before he followed his daughter, wanting to make sure that she got down there just fine and the like. "Mark my words, I want to meet with him before I leave this ship. You can expect me around until then." Thusly following her down, casting looks to pirates and the like, making a mental map of everyone around him. "No need to tend to me dear, I ate before I left." Besides, he could still go days without food, it was just discouraged. But a chuckle. "You're just like your mother in the kitchen you know that? About the only one out of all your siblings that does get this close."

"Well...alright." She wasn't horribly hungry herself so she tested the cook's stew and shook her head. "Parsley. And a bit of oregano will do just the trick." Dropping some in, she stirred and dished up a bowl of it for herself. Leading him out to one of the tables, she sat down and started picking at her stew. "It's the only reason I never questioned if I was truly yours or not." Hesitating a moment since she hadn't meant to say that before she changed the subject rather quickly. "Is Kelligrin back home yet or is he still off fighting things for no apparent reason?"
