Izumi stands aswell, picking up Saiyuri so she can sit on Izumi's shoulder. "Arigato, Umou-san..." "Momma, I want a riceball! Can we make some riceballs?" Saiyuri gives Izumi her best puppy-eyes Izumi giggles at her little Sakura-onna "Of coarse. Namari, Umi? Would 'yall like to help?" Namari dashes off to the kitchen while Umi rolls her eyes and gives the body back to it's rightful owner. Izumi picks up the confused Harionago, Riko, and informs her of what is going on as she makes her way to the kittchen to join Umou-san and Namari. As Izumi enters the kitchen, it feels a little crowded, but she will stay to help the little ones. Namari has most of the stuff out for the riceballs and waits patiently for Izumi and his sisters.

Reijin nodded sagely. "I suppose that everyone truly feels that the grass is greener in other pastures," she murmured before holding the door open for Luna as they returned inside to put away the supplies. "My mother always wanted the best for me, her only daughter...she hoped that I would attract a husband who was well-off, that I could live in comfort...she had been saving, every day, to amass a dowry for me, but I suppose things change," she whispered the last part, before changing the subject quickly. "Thank you again, for the painting. It is most beautiful."

Smiling at Izumi, Mei and the others, Umou finishes up the dishes and goes to the hallway closet to get a broom. Having served as a maid for awhile now, Umou feels more comfortable going up toward the geisha's rooms in order to clean them. She peeks into the quarters of the head geisha, and respectfully enters and begins to sweep the floor.
Umou is essentially kind-hearted, and not prone to fits of jealousy, but even she cannot look at the room without wishing she was in a position to have one, too. Having never had a place to her own (besides the occasional tree shelter she'd build for herself), she feels the first flickerings of desire to be something more than a maid. Her sweeping carries her over to the window, where she looks down upon the garden below. In the garden, she sees the beautiful maiko and geiko, and feels another longing as she sees the beauty in the garden reflected in the very clothing of the ladies themselves. In a corner of the garden, the corner that she took a nights rest in so long ago, she spies two vines climbing up the walls. She recognizes them only because they are two of her favorite flowers, morning glories and moonflowers. Biting her lip, she begins to imagine having a kimono that mimics these two flowers, and she unexpectedly finds herself longing to have the crest of the okiya on it, as well. Realizing that the reason that she want this is because of the beautiful and kind women that have given her friendship, she then realizes that she might be able to become, with great effort, one of these women. She might be able to become a maiko, or even a geisha.
Closing her eyes, she sends a brief prayer off to Inari that this might happen, and then goes back downstairs to see if there's any way she might be able to achieve this goal.

Walking in slowly, Mie tucked a lock of her hair behind her right ear. She was new, obviously - she had on a clean maid uniform, and her eyes flickered over everything they could, much as a fly would dart over a meal.
"Ah," Mie whispered, toward anyone within hearing distance. Her voice was a voice that would be expected of one at least two years younger than herself. Indeed, even her body and face was that of such also. If anything was known straightaway about this maid, it was that she is a very late bloomer. "I'm new. Could you tell me what I must do?"

My name is Umou- may I ask yours?" She gestures kindly for the the other girl to follow her. "Mainly, what we do as maids is to clean wherever we find a spot to clean. Sweeping and doing dishes seem to be the most pressing work, but I try to make sure to keep my ears open to any request from the senior maids, the geisha, the maiko, or even the okaa-san herself. Can I help you find anything?"

The girl bowed lowly in return, and offered a shy smile. "Thank you, Umou-san. My name is Mie." As this more experienced maid lead her through, Mie nodded, her dark chocolatl hued eyes wavered over the other females in awe. "I see," she tentatively lifted a finger and brushed it against a surface, gaining a dusty smudge. Horrified that she had done something, Mie quickled wiped the finger across the side of her apron. "Maybe a brief tour of the kitchens.. and where to find brooms, since you say that sweeping is often needed." Mie murmured, adding hastily, "If you'd be very kind, miss."

She leads the way toward the kitchen, pointing out the broom closet as they pass by. "Would you like some tea before you begin? Many people arrive here quite exhausted, and the okiya seems to be very willing for maids to have tea. What brought you to us?"

'Mie,' the girl thought to herself, barely irate. She nodded her head in agreement, even though she took her time as much as befitted her to get to the Okiya. "Yes, I'd like that very much, thank you." Mie smiled slightly as she followed and glanced at the broom closet. Her eyes flickered over Umou's face for a brief moment before turning her gaze towards the kitchen. "I came here by own will. My home life was unsatisfying," Mie's eyebrows furrowed slightly. "My parents did care for me. But my life didn't have any challenges. I came here looking for adventure." She chuckled quietly, looking at the broom closet then at Umou. "Though, I'm sure I'll have quite an adventure with a broom. The daring rescue of a stick brushing away the enemy that is so called dust and grime."

"You sound like a very creative person!"

Yokome trugged back into the okiya from a long day out as a maiko. 'Tadaima!' She said as she announced her return. She slipped off her zori and stepped into the okiya. 'Can a maid please get me some tea and bring it up to my room?' She asked. She walked slowly and wobbly to her room. Her kimono slipping along the floor as she walked. She was exhausted from a long day out.

Mie's eyes lit up as Yokome walked past. She quickly grabbed a cup and poured the tea as fast as she could without spilling any. Her feet followed Yokome, even before Mie had finished pouring the tea. She clumsily laid down the kettle and walked to Yokome's room. "You wanted some tea?" Mie breathed, slightly embarassed she was panting a bit because of the adrenaline.

Kaori streached upwards streaching her fingers. She had been working on reparing some of the older kimono. she was thankful her mother had pushed her so hard to learn and perfect the art of sewing. She was even more thankful that her uncle owned a kimono shop in the moutains and she had worked there at certain times of the year. She carefuly inspected her repair and lightly shook the kimono out before carefuly folding it back and wraping it in rice paper. She genlty and lovingly laid it back in its box. She lightly tied the the string around the boxz to hold it togeter. She cmalbord to her feet and climbed the short ladder to place the box label out back on the shelf where she had gotten it from. She put her things back into a small basket and slid them in a corner so they were out of everons way. Carefuly she slid the door open using all the skills she had learned in the few weeks hse had been in the okiya. It had grown on her. when she had first come here she had been sad and scared to the extect she even hurt herself to show respect for the others. Now however she was more relaxed in there preccenc. She still showed her deep respect for them by doing everthing in her power to help make the geisha preform better and help the maiko learn. She had gotten to the point she now cleaned the upper hall daily and after some of the geisha left for the night she would quickly clean there rooms. She made sure to never bother them during the day as much as possible. She could barly remeber her life before the okiya and she had been told that that was the way to life. Forget the past and focus on your dutys and please the geisah and okiya mother. She carefuly moved practicing walking softly so she would not disturd anyone to the kitchin.

Okaa-san slowly slid open the door to her room, stepping out onto the polished floor of the hallway. Her kimono trailed lightly behind her.
"Would someone please send the girl Umou to my room?" She called down the hallway. "I would like to speak with her as soon as possible!"
Okaa-san walked back into her room sliding the door partially shut and sat down once more in front of her low table, opening the account book that sat there and studying it intently.

Umou gasps as she hears the Okaa-san mention her name. I wonder what she wants to speak with me for? I hope I haven't done anything wrong! she thinks.
She quietly climbs the stairs to Okaa-san's room, hesitating slightly before clearing her throat and saying "It is the humble maid, Umou, Okaa-san!" She slides through the partially open door, and kneels, bowing low before the other woman.

"Umou. How long have you been in this okiya? A month? Two months? Oh well, it doesn't matter. " Okaa-san shook her head. "What does matter is that I have noticed you around: helping and doing a good deal of work. I think it is time for you to move up in the world. You are now a maiko. As soon as possible you will move your possessions from the maid's room to that of the maiko."
Okaa-san looked at the girl closely. "You are permitted to begin taking classes of your choice and I encourage you to start looking for an elder sister, although there are not many readily available right now."
Okaa-san paused to allow the young girl time to take in the sudden change as well as to ask any questions she might have.
