Blank had been preparing to knock Vivi out with his bare hands. He was just trying to think of the best way to sneak up on the little mage when the little bard played his little song. Blank turned to the cowering Rakurai.
"...Someone's got a bit of explaining to do."

The melody resolved in a few seconds, and the bard lowered his blessing. He crouched beside Vivi's sleeping form with a grave expression that made him more delicate somehow. "He'll be alright when he wakes up... if we can get alla this sorted out beforehand." Sparrow's gaze settled on Kuja's back, single blue eye demanding answers silently. Rarely did the boy act unless it was to protect someone, and this was no exception. "I know I'm no one special compared to you guys but could someone please tell me what's going on?" He was being unusually calm and polite.

"Me?" Kuja asked of Blank, he too moved towards Vivi but stopped with a small smirk when he realised he probably shouldn't get too close to his prototype mage.
He looked towards Sparrow for a long time; Rakurai was still clutching the back of his coat like a scared child would a mothers. "I am Kuja, the great menance who tried to end the world some years ago." He said without any trace of shame or regret but it was something he fought so hard to hide.
"Some years ago, Vivi fought Rakurai's predessor, Black Waltz Three and was quite devastated by what happened. Three went quite berserk and destroyed an entire shipment of Vivi's kind." Kuja looked towards the horizon for a moment, before looking Sparrow right in the eye he could see. "Some wounds can take forever to heal."
"That song ... was very pretty," Rakurai said in a small voice, peeking out at Sparrow, "Can you play anything else?"

Sparrow locked up a little when Kuja took a few steps toward his charge. Since when had he decided to protect the mage? Probably since... well, their first meeting, now that he thought about it. It was just a chance thing, Sparrow venturing back to his hometown only to find that there was nothing there for him, and then seeing someone getting picked on...
And now he crouched beside Vivi on the field, apparently witness to the former antagonist of the world. He nodded to the words, but when that silver apparition lay his eyes on Sparrow, the young bard stared right back. It was the gaze of someone tempered by independence. That war Kuja had a hand in caused Lindblum's near destruction, and the reconstruction was what had killed his father and ultimately propelled his entrance into adolescence. Sparrow's was the look of someone who carried a most painful secret, and was aged beyond his years because of it.
He jerked his eyes away suddenly and looked at Rakurai instead. "Of course!" He felt his chin lift. "I can play pretty much anything!"

Kuja certainly noticed the depth to the look and sighed, looking towards the horizon again.
"anything?" Rakurai asked uncertainly, his hand slowly uncurling from Kuja's coat. "Can you sing too? I can't - what was it master says? - hold a tune in a bucket."
"Oh, its far worse then that," Kuja threw in has he heard what Rakurai said. "You are infact, tone deaf. I at least can sing and I would have expected the same of a bird,"
Rakurai humphed slightly, "I can cook though, so if you ever want a meal you can just ask ... okay?"
"We're on opposite sides," Kuja offered, "At least those are the parts the Tantalus pair expect us to play."

Marcus peaked from behind a rock "How did you put him to sleep? I thought while in trance, they became immune to petty tricks like that?" he walked over "Anyway, I also fought that bird's cousin, or whatever you might call it and it was insane, there was'nt an ounce of control in his eyes, he also loked like he'd gone through a train wreak... Twice, all he could say was kill... He was rather weak when I fought him though, even the tin can took him out with ease." He looked towards Vivi "I really never heard the story behind it... The poor kid lost alot of his people, bu honestly is that worth killing everyone Vivi... I say we silence him while he's out to make sure he dont pull that stunt we he comes too... At least that'll give us time to maybe talk some sense into him... Y'know make him come to terms with his bird mage racisim..." Marcus smirked a bit, his single razor sharp tooth glinting in the light.

((ooc: RotFLMAO! Bird Mage racism!))
"Bird mage racism?" Kuja repeated, as if not quite believing what Marcus has said. "His dislike is perfectly reasonable," He offered.
"I make really good deserts," Rakurai was continuing to 'sell himself' to poor Sparrow.

"You wouldn't make that good a dessert, dessert's supposed to be sweet. Maybe a starter, some Tapas or something."
Well, that was Blank's contribution to the conversation. He walked over to Vivi and knelt down beside him.
"Maybe I should take him to the Inn and keep an eye on him there. Whatcha think Marcus?"

Rakurai blinked a few times, "I don't get it ..."
Kuja rolled his eyes, vowing next time he created a Waltz he'd give it a decent sized brain.

Marcus nodded to Blank, "Good idea..." he said motioning to pick up the mage in his long arms.

"Then we should take our leave," Kuja said simply, turning his back and going to leave.
Rakurai didn't seem as keen to leave and waved at Sparrow as he followed.

Blank waved his hand dismissively at Kuja and Rakurai. Zidane's young charge was much more important to the ex-Tantalus member than previous enemies. He allowed Marcus room to pick up the young mage and accompanied his fellow thief to the inn.
"Wonder if they'll charge us, you know, 'cause we're not actually staying the night, just waiting for Vivi to come to. Hopefully without calling an apocalypse upon our sorry asses."

Marcus blinked "I thought you where taking your leave? And is it really all that smart to keep the little guy around the Birdmage?"

Kuja crossed his arms, "I was taking my leave until you ended up in my room," He replied simply. "And 'Birdmage' as you call him, is no threat to anyone; I thought the puppet was supposed to be a docile creature."
