I finally got the motivation to play Dohnanyi's Rhapsody in C major, Op. 11 (I think)!!
I think I should play more Chopin. Which one: an Etude (any) Nocturnes (any) or a Polonaise (any but the Polonaise-fantasie)

I love Dohnanyi's Rhapsodies...

Ooh, my choices would be...

Etude Opus 25 no. 11
Nocturne Opus 48 no. 1
Polonaise Opus 26 no. 1

Why not Liszt Etude #3 La Campenalla!

I don't get it. Anyway, I like that piece but I really haven't had any motivation to play any of Liszt's pieces. I prefer Chopin. biggrin
I have state in like.. 4 weeks. ._. So after that, it's Alborada del Grazioso!

Ah, but Chopin is much more difficult to get right than Liszt. Critics will accept Liszt as heavy virtuosity for the most part, whereas Chopin must be just right. It's quite unfair really. Pianists get crucified for playing Chopin.

Ah, the 4th movement of the 2nd Sonata is GENIUS. Possibly one of the most remarkable rebellions in music...

Actually, the whole of that Sonata is incredible...But as a very good Radio 3 presenter said, "Don't listen to it too often...Too much B flat minor is bad for the soul."

I still don't like it, but maybe it's because it doesn't make any sense to me. It's like a child trying to read Charles Dickens.

Oh, but anyways, I'm trying to write a symphony in Bb minor! But only because I love the depth of it.

Really staying on topic, I'm not really planning on playing much right now, just busy writing.

Well, I do think that for some people the forth movement is an aquired taste. It doesn't have the immediate appeal of the other three.

A symphony, eh? For a Mahlerian sized Orchestra? xd I haven't done much in B flat minor - I don't really know why...All I've written is a Prelude in it. However, my D flat Concerto has some heavy B flat minor passages, especially in the last movement. But that's not saying much. It goes through far too many keys - D flat, B flat minor, D flat, F major, A major, D flat, F minor, D flat, C sharp minor, B flat minor and ends in D flat...I really need to cut that down.

Keep us updated on the progress of the Symphony! What else are you writing?

@Asian Trix: GOOD LUCK!

It's been a while. ^^ Hope everyone's been doing well.

I'm currently working on Bartok's Suite Op. 14. I'm aiming to do the LRSM exam next spring, and my teacher suggested that I learn the Bartok to complement my program. I'll have to look up an appropriate Debussy Prelude later as well, then start reviewing my old repertoire that I'm reusing for the exam. :3

I'm also writting a symphony in D min. Or rather I'm trying. I hope it to be my first published piece. I've practically completed the slow mvnt., but I need an idea for the scherzo and a theme for the first mvnt. I was thinking of making a piano concerto in the same key, but I think I may morph my ideas from it into the symphony.

Mahlerian sized XD. Actually I've tried something like that before on a suite in Eb Maj. But then again, I'm thinking of attaching it to a symphony. It's very hard for me to decide on such things. Maybe a symphony-suite?

Oh and awesome news, not sure if you guys heard but IMSLP is coming back on in July.

I GOT A WHOLE NEW REPETOIRE FOR THIS SUMMER!!! After the convention I got like.. SO many ideas so here it is:

Barcarolle- Chopin
Jeux d'eau- Ravel
Alborada del grazioso
and possibly Ondine, from Gaspard de la Nuit

Piano Sonata No. 1- Beethoven (I'm trying to learn all of his sonatas from 1- whatever the last one is biggrin )
I'm going to finish Prokofiev's Piano Sonata No. 7, Schubert's Piano Sonata No. 12 i think, and a LOT of technical excercises.
By the way- do you know any good finger exercises besides Pischna and Czerny that I can find online? >w<

Cool. I espically like that you're going for the sonatas. If you want a finger excercise and want to get rid of the sonatas at the same time, then the 2nd mvnt of the 32nd sonata is the one for you. It's extremly complicated however.

hmmm...
Well...I can suggest the Debussy etudes since they're overlooked but can also be a help.
Otherwise...I'll start looking for some sheet music.
