"Zulieka must not be allowed to survive. She is a traitor and must me hunted down," remarked a demon elder.
"But she has already served her punishment for her actions, need we continue to reduce the numbers of our own kind?" asked another.
"It would be better that the matter is settled once and for all than allow her to possibly continue..." started a third but Zulan would hear no more.
He made his way back to his alcove to prepare for a journey. His sister, Zulieka had evaded him during her last visit to the demons' home, and she never bothered to make contact with him. He had a mission on his mind, and since the elders continued to take matters firmly into their own hands to deal with the situation, he would have to handle them himself. Soon he was off and away from the den in search of his ill-fated sister. "I will find you, Zulieka, and we will have much to discuss."
His travels over the centuries has allowed him considerable knowledge over the shifting geography of the Earth, but there were many possibilities for failure as there were thousands upon thousands of hiding places where his sister could be residing. Knowing his blood, she would not stay in one place for long if people were after her. The darkness afforded Zulan to travel in his true form. Dark blue skin and black wings, so black they seemed to suck in and diminish all light and color that surrounded it, hurried past country after country in effort to find the demoness.
A thought dawned on Zulan, just before the sun did on the third day of his search. Changing his current path, he headed for a destination that brought both he and his sibling comfort ages ago.

Despite the earlier instructions she had issued to herself, and continued to chant as a recurring mantra, Zuleika gained little respite from the frantic, worried, beatings of her heart. The demoness was still no closer to discerning a potential location for Astraea and Eloise, and each passing moment only served to drive into a further panic about their safety and well-being. The only light, albeit dull and fading, amongst the growing darkness was the hope that Malek had managed to find the girls’ and keep them from falling into harm.
Lifting herself from the metallic swing, causing the contraption to groan in relief at the sudden relinquishment of its burden, Zuleika resumed her aimless pacing of the abandoned clearing. At her sides pallid hands curled into fists, beating a steady, frustrated beat against her thighs. She despised this feeling of impotency, of being able to do nothing but wait and fret until she all but lost her mind. If her form had been complete, free from the onerous injuries inflicted upon her by her kindred, she would have been able to spread her wings and take to the sky in search of her daughters, but instead she was doomed to remain earthbound. For that she hated her brethren all the more. Growling with pent-up aggravation, Zuleika easily tore a low-lying shrub clear from the ground, hurling it cleanly into the trunk of a distant tree – and, for a brief instant, she felt better.

As Zulan slowed his descent towards a patch of trees near a familiar clearing, his black wings barely made any audible sound. Sensing the movement of another being, he disappeared in the copse once he landed. Recollapsing his wings behind his back, he tranformed into his human form. The dim light reflect off of his pale skin and caused his short, blue-black hair to glow slightly. Just when he was about to move closer to see what creature also found this location, the impact of a projectile concussed against the tree he was concealed behind.
Uncertain if the other being knew he was there or just was being careless, Zu would waste little effort in hiding any longer. Stepping from behind the tree and into the clearing, the immortal took notice of the shrub that now lay imbedded within the side of the trunk. Smacking his tongue against his teeth in disappointment, he said loud enough for the other being to hear, "Now, wasting your energy upon the local foilage will not help you at all..." Zulan trailed off. His eyes darted to his left to gaze at the one individual he hoped to find, and he noticed her damaged form.
"...Sister," Zu finished with a lusterless grin.

“Perhaps not Brother, but for a brief moment it aides to soothe the mind from its onerous concerns” Zuleika replied venomously, posture stiffening as she turned to face her younger sibling.
Despite the months since their separation, the demoness’ blood flared with the familiar boundless hatred she had come to posses for the creature before her; time having failed to deaden the sting of his betrayal. “Have you finally come to close this chapter of your deceit?” Zuleika growled, violet orbs flashing with pain as she assumed a defensive stance. “Very well, but do not allow yourself to be fooled by my current condition; I shall prove no easy conquest” the demoness warned, a faint smirk, reminiscent of her of character, briefly lifting the corners of her ruby lips.
Do not forget the task at hand, the one that has driven from safety and into clasps of danger, Zuleika’s inner voice solemnly intoned, the warning effectively splitting the warriors focus.

The truth was that he felt sorry for her, he wanted to help her. But she was seemingly in no mood for what he about was offering to her at the moment. Zulan's pale right hand brushed down from the top of his head to cover is violet as as he shook his head. Then his hands went smoothly to hold each other behind his back. "Tsk, tsk," the demon started to say as he seemed to glide slowly closer towards his elder sibling. He understood her position, if faintly, and knew that his previous actions as of late had little to do with aiding his own blood and, instead, he was one of the individuals who brought some of his demon bretheren upon his own sister. It would never be in his mind again to to her harm.
"Why would I want to spend any energy in a conquest versus you, when your child..." his voice trailed off. Zu could not easily find a way to his next words as he might have already set of Zuleika into an even darker place where he was concerned. As much as he wanted to help her, the nearly milenia-old demon still felt that he needed to test her resolve. Muttering a engrained chant, Zu called his prized weapon to his hands that still laid behind him and away from the demoness. The shaft elongated almost soundlessly in the cool air, with the blade stretching out directly behind its wielder.
"...Well, your child's story has barely even had a chance to unfold." Zulan's empty grin was replaced with a solem expression that Zulieka has seen hundreds of time in the past. A slight twinge in his right eye fully signaled to his sister that it was her to to act. Any hesitation in the future from them could mean their end of immortality and their lives.
