Hrm so I thought I'd ask here two questions since one of them was brought up in-thread recently and another is in case of. xD;

It's been brought up about Mench and Baylk Frankensteining or using the bases or whatnot. Is that allowed? I could've sworn reading some post or another saying that there was too big a difference between the bases.

Also, I was thinking of a cosplay for one of three "characters." I put it in quotes because he's got like 3 separate personalities. They're all pretty different from each other and there's at least one trait to signal which personality it is (placement or lack of medical eye patch). Would each "character" be considered different cosplays? They all have different names albeit the two main personalities only have a difference of one letter.

That is, if someone went for a specific character like say Agito, I'd be able to cosplay Akito or the other?

Thanks for reading my extremely long rambling of a question @_@

PrinceDave
Teh Zan- It would be impossible to dye yourself another color if you're koshka, but you would have to be pretty damn crazy to do that becaue lots of sensitive areas would most likely BURN LIKE FIREEEE. Might want to mention it in the personality too so that the checkers know whats up- but things that would be impossible to do- like light markings on top of a full body dye- wouldn't work then :<

I'm sorry I didn't see your answer till just today.

So is her actual hair out of the question too? She's only Koshka because of her ears and tail, but what I got from what you said means I might need to change her skin color too. So is her actual hair allowed to stay dyed blue? But her ears, tail, and skin should be some kind of... kitty cat brown? XD;

I was told to ask about Baylks having fishtails. I'm trying to do a cosplay of a character who's a mermaid so yeah. I mean they are fish couldn't some have a tail and get around in a wheelchair or something?

@TehZan: hair dyes are fine, she could potentially dye her tail and ears and have her main body color be different as well, or dye a pattern into her fur. having the hair a different color than the body/ears/tail is perfectly acceptable, as well.

@Fyre: i think someone had allready asked in the past about baylks having rudimentary tails (re: not a full mer-tail) and were told that it would most likely have fallen off as they grew older, kind of a 'tadpole' developmental-type thing, so tails are probably only going to be available on special/event/SE (example, someone made an se baylk for the opening event and it had a tail, but being se, it's allowed to break certain rules, ya know?) punk baylks, unless you're given special permission. but as of right now, with the way the world is set up, i'm not sure a mermaid baylk would be admissible. you could try instead giving her a mermaid dress type outfit (a dress that is fitted to the upper legs, then flares out around the calf/lower leg, to imitate a mermaid's tai), to better fit her into the steamworks world, or wait to hear from dave or another higher-up on the matter.

Taerar Licorne
Here's hoping this makes sense ><

What are the limitations on names? The issue is I have an OC named Echosong who I've had and have been developing for the better part of about 2+ months now. However, I seriously just found out in the last week that there is a cat in the Warriors book series also named Echosong. xX Would I be able to make my OC, or would I have to rename her so she doesn't share the licensed character's name even though she wouldn't be a cosplay of that character? I noticed there are two Zeros - the Rockman X character and someone's OC - so I assumed this would be okay, but I just wanted to double-check before I got in trouble. @@ Thanks in advance!

ii think it would be ok õ_o i mean like you said it's not a cosplay, and you didn't intentionally copy the name. what you could do if you're really worried about the name thing and if you punk her, is split the name/modify it a bit into two names perhaps, like 'Echo Songsomething' even though it's not the original Oc's name. i know a few people have modified their character's names to fit the setting a bit better, but overall it's up to you. I personally don't see a huge issue with it, especially since you've stated it was unintentional, and frankly, there are a ton of people running around the world with the same name, it shouldn't be that out of the question fort a shop that's allready got as many 'characters' as steamworks does that obviously there's going to be some duplicates, whether they're partial duplicates of other punk's names, or duplicates of existing character names.

I don't mind waiting for an "official" answer. I thought of the "mermaid" dress but I really want to make her outfit look more like one the character has. If a "mertail" is out then I figure giving her webbed feet and a few fins on the sides of her legs should be acceptable. I'm also hoping that she's allowed to have a nose and ears (fin like ears of course) because I think she'd look rather funny without them.

there's nothign sayign you have to follow a ref exactly. you could give her the mermaidtail portion of the skirt, then add the flounces from the original outfit on top of it and such, as an idea. and i've seen baylks with fin ears and minor/not prominent noses, so that should be fine.

Thank you Merangue.

So her skin color doesn't necessarily have to be a fur color right?

Well here's what I did so you can see: WIP and reference. It was after I asked for opinion on it that I told tails might not be allowed. The mench head is there as a guide for when I edit her face like where the ears are and stuff she will have gills and the like. Either way I do really like the "skirt" and had to go back to my reference a lot to get it right. I was told it looked like a trace but if it was the lines wouldn't look so tacky (I notice all the minor flaws in my own art) and also I ended up changing it to two layers instead of the original three mostly 'cause I goofed on length. I was thinking of turning it into a dress that was similar in style to Gaia's Elegant Veil's dress pose.

As for her mertail there's a rare real world deformity called Sirenomelia in which the person is born with their legs fused together. If nothing else she could be a Baylk with said deformity and she mutated/grew/whatever the tail fin out of necessity for swimming and she'd get around on land with a wheelchair or some other contraption. With a tadpole they grow legs and the tail is kept separate then falls off but in this case it'd be her actual legs just deformed.

I have a question as well. are ghosts/undead allowed? as long as they keep there legs and all and are not changed race. like a dead bylk that's ghost roams the land?

I am fairly certain that supernatural elements such as ghosts and the undead are not allowed. I think it's also been said before that mermaid tails are not allowed - I think someone earlier wanted one and was told no.

Question for owners: Where in the line drawn between "inspired by" and cosplay. For example, black mages in Final Fantasy have a certain style of hat. Can I use that without it having to be a cosplay of Vivi, or black mages from the actual games?

No rush, I have other OCs to do first n.n

According to merangue up there it was a rudimentary tail not a full tail that was asked about. So I'm waiting for an answer from a higher up.
