If a woman wants to keep her baby and the father does not want to be involved, she should raise it alone.

"Why do you want to punish the woman?" asks some idiot.

Why do you want to punish the man? I ask.

This is going from the assumption that the woman had the option of aborting the baby's life. She had a choice. Why doesn't the man?

"It takes away her reproductive freedom. If she can't afford to raise the baby alone, and the man won't help, she is effectively forced to abort."

And forcing the man to support the child/woman financially takes away his "reproductive freedom". Actually, that's already gone. Once he has sex, it's up to the woman whether he will reproduce. But it forces him to accept the child as his! Why do you want to punish the father?

And couples feel forced to abort or adopt out their children all the time! Should, then, some neighbor of theirs, or their parents, be forced to help them raise the child? My dad and his second wife gave their first child up for adoption. It's heart-breaking! How dare their parents not help them support the child?

OK, I guess that's all I have to say for now.

On the other hand, what about women who find themselves pregnant, tell the father, and then he refuses to help them? How is it fair that he can just bugger off and leave her with the child on her own?

She can't just walk away. He can.

In that situation though, both sides should be working together. Afterall, they support choice...if she's only choosing abortion because she feels she needs to in order to finish her education or support herself, well what kind of choice is that?

The way it is now, men are told, "You should have thought about that before you had sex," yet saying the same thing to a woman is considered outrageous. Why? She can leave the child up for adoption. Yes, it's her body going through this, but what they usually complain about is the burden it puts on her to be a mother, not to be pregnant.

It's just as hard for men to lose their children as it is for women, and just as hard for a man to raise a child as it is for women. Why should men have no choice except the choice to have sex? They're being punished for having sex! How wrong!

But it's from the point of view of pro-choice. She CAN walk away.

And since I'm not totally clear on the abortion issue, I wouldn't tell someone that they are doing something morally wrong. I feel that it is wrong, but I don't know. So, if I choose not to kill my child (I won't), that's MY choice and I won't make the father be involved.

Forced to abort? And they call themselves Pro-Choice?
Someone really needs to look up the definition of CHOICE.

They are saying that the women would feel forced to abort if she couldn't raise the child alone and the father wouldn't help. They are saying that is a bad thing, because it takes away her choice. But I addressed why that is a ridiculous argument.

Um, I hate this one.

Kay guys, I -don't- want to punish the woman. I love women as much as a 'mo can. I just don't want anyone, in this situation, to have to die to satisfy the wishes of the other.

And before you say "Oh, the woman's a SLAVE to the fetus! There's a chain from her uterus to her arm. *sob*" Sorry, she's not a slave-- and the child isn't a slave-owner for you to 'Rise Against', it's there because you had sex, and it's a life that was made because of your direct actions.

Where's the sense of responsibility people used to have for their own actions? Did the choicers rhetoric their way through any sort of accountability? Sure seems that way. 3nodding

srsly- i hate how they assume sex to be like breathing, pregnancy to be like a random disease...

why is it that any other action you take with significant risk is seen as stupid? bungee jumping- stupid.
russian roulette- stupid.
beer bonging- stupid.
chain smoking- stupid.
sex- do it or you're not a person.

lovely. and keep in mind with all of this- the above only effect the person doing them. the only person to die from bungee jumping, except in freak accidents, are the jumpers. when you have sex, you bring another person int the world, and abortion kills them. it's not jsut risking YOUR life, it'srisking someone elses. it's like, involuntary bungee jumping, basically

False. They should have thought about the cost of children before they indulged in sexuality.
It's not the baby's fault it was born, or created, so why should a careless woman be permitted to ruin its only chance at Earth life?
Abortion is NEVER the solution. EVEN in the case of incest or rape. You can always find a better home for the baby, put it up for adoption, or find a solution. Killing one of God's children is NOT the answer to your problems: it's selfish and foolish. If you didn't want to have a baby, then you shouldn't have had sex.

And on the subject of "punishment" we aren't punishing him. He punished himself, the day, the moment, the second he decided to take advantage of someone. It was his choice, and if he can't handle the fact that he might have created a child, then that's his problem, and an irresponsable one, at that!

Ok, um, there's my rant for today. sweatdrop

I think saying punishing the man (at least when I say it) is pointing out the hypocrisy of saying women should be able to choose...but men need to just live with their decision to have sex. Women don't, but men do. So men apparently consent to getting women pregnant, but women don't consent to being pregnant...they're magical and deserve more rights. rolleyes

Edit: Men are affected by many of the reasons they list for why women should be able to abort...financial difficulty, not wanting to be a parent yet, what if his family finds out and kicks him out, he's going to face a social stigma, etc. etc. Men are also devestated over the loss of their children through abortion, and have in some instances killed themselves because of it. What a blow to a man's self esteem... "I can't even protect my own child." "The woman I love most killed my baby." "I'm absolutely powerless and even expected to pay to kill my own child, or else I'm considered a bad boyfriend/fiance/spouse." "They tell me I'm supposed to be supportive of her decision to kill my child."

I don't know what I'd do if I was a man...but I certainly wouldn't be able to date anyone who's pro-choice, and I'd never know if my partner suddenly decided to go from being pro-life to pro-choice when she was confronted with pregnancy. It must be really hard to be a pro-life man looking for a relationship.

That's one reason I never get why they say men should have no say...it's a men's rights issue too. Obviously, a pregnancy is going to affect a woman more because it's her body, but a child either born or aborted is going to affect a man.

I hate the whole "why punish the woman" crap. I'm a woman so why would I want to punish myself?

Anyways yes, the men seem to have no say at all unfortunatly, not much we can change about that since the woman is the one that is carring the baby, But I think they should at least listen to what the man says first before making a final decision cause it's his baby too and it will affect him as well.

either way, we are not punishing either, they both made their choice that resulted the woman getting pregant and we aren't forcing either of them to keep it,abort it, or give it up for adoption, that is still their choice (mainly the womans over all cause she is the one having it). We just deagree with some of the choices.

The whole "equality" thing they say makes no sense. If they want equality then they should let the men help make a decision as well and also, women bodies are going to be physically different then mens and if you change it to make woman equal then their be no more people.

It's best they learn about all the facts and learn about protection (and birth control) before all this happens.

Yes I agree, have them get their own beer for once. I'm not a slave you know or a maid (if so I want to get paid for cooking and cleaning).
