So far the battle to overturn Roe v. Wade has been long, and with little success. Right now our best hope for overturning it right now is that bush gets one more supreme ourt appointment, and even though it might put back some other issues that I feel strongly for (environmental legislation, gay rights, going against warrantless wiretapping, ect.) I feel that this issue has got to come first. Even if he has one more appointment, the judge's pro-life views would have to be kept well under wraps in the democratic senate.
Direct challenges to roe v. wade might come from Utah, Mississippi, or even an amended version from south dakota again which would contain exceptions for rape and incest cases. If any of these states or anyothers passes an abortion ban then it would likely be sent back to the supreme court for consideration.
Some lifers argue that it is too soon and without another court appointment that it could be a failing case.
As well I've seen at least three surveys which reveal that younger generations, while more liberal on many issues differ greatly on abortion and are actually becoming more conservative. Despite not calling themselves pro-life, they believe abortion should be banned with exceptions for rape, incest, fetal disformation, and life of the mother by about 60-70%
This especially bodes well for the future should we actually overturn roe v. wade, however if we don't congress will NEVER pass a constitutional amendment within our lifetimes. Our best hope is to send it to the states, and while New York and California won't ban abortion anytime soon, most of the south and mountain states will, as well as states with trigger laws.

EDIT: Found out from the news that Utah has rejected an outright abortion ban and has instead opted for a trigger law. Their reason was that it would be too expensive to fight in cout....................... hypocritical ******** bastards.

I don't really want RvW overturned.

I came to this conclusion recently. I don't think it's good enough. Tons of states would make it so abortion is okay, and then others wouldn't, so what you'd have is like before the civil war where some states were slave and some were free.

Abe Lincoln said all or nothing. A country can't stand divided. I believe he was right. Either life at a certain stage is protected everywhere or nowhere, but it isn't one country if its citizens receive different levels of protection, or if a human can count as a citizen in one state and not in another state. On the flipside, it isn't one country if women have their rights protected in one state but lose the right to their own bodies by crossing state borders.

Er...

A) An overturning of Roe v. Wade would put the decision up to the states. It wouldn't make abortion illegal, so it wouldn't have to become a black market thing as someone who wanted an abortion could just move to a state that allowed abortions, or cross to a state that allowed abortions then cross back.

B) Just because abortion would become black market isn't a good enough reason not to outlaw it. I think I know what you are saying; That we should change the minds and hearts of people about abortion, and then the legality will just change itself, but I would rather make it illegal, saving millions of lives, then work on the minds and hearts.
