Pretty much what the title asks... I'm sure this has been asked before, but I thought I'd start another thread anyways. Is it really necessary to go to mass? I can think of a million and a half reasons to justify not going, but I can just about justify anything in my mind, so what's the scriptural point of view? What's your point of view??
To be honest, I haven't been going every week anymore, I either opt to sleep or talk to my girlfriend. I never really get much out of the sermons anymore (not since my one pastor left) and if anything, there's more socializing that praising. But yeah... what do you think?

Hmm. Looks like your topic has been a bit ignored, hasn't it?
First off, Communion with other members is a positive experience in that it helps you grow and focus with God. However, if there is strife between members, that union is totally gone. And I know what you mean by "Socializing", there are alot of members who like to talk behind everyones backs and gossip, which is part of the reason I hardly ever go anymore. sweatdrop

However, if there is strife between members, that union is totally gone. And I never really do communion. I've never really felt compelled. So I dunno...

I assume by "Mass" you mean any sort of organized worship ceremony in the church you belong to, right?

Communion, in the Adventist Church at least, is where we break bread, drink 'Wine'(Grape Juice), and Wash each others feet in remembrence of the Last Supper, and when Christ washed his disciples feet.
I had thought that was universal in all the Christian Churches. confused What does your Church do in remembrence of Christs Last Supper?

Nope. Never saw the point of any of it. Belief and spirituality are an internal thing, at least in my opinion. If you want to pray, great. Meditate, super. But it's an internal thing, not organized... not public. Certainly not something to go to and socialize at.
The mind is chaotic. Free-flowing. Organization, such as a mass, for exampe, attempt to constrain the mind. The mind does not want to be tied down. It enjoys being free.

I think mass is nessecary. God says where three or more a gathered he is there also. It's good for us to interect and worship with other believers. Our strengths can help some one else when they are struggling and they can do the same for us in return. Other people can see things in us that we can't. It also helps keep us accountable and helps us grow.
and our church only does the bread and "wine" thing. I don't think I could stand people touching my feet either. ugh

I think that going to church is important. It strenghtens your faith by telling you that you aren't alone in what you believe. And God wants you there. BUT. Unlike what my pastor thinks, you don't need to go to church to be a Christian. It helps, it's wonderful, but it's definately not necessary. As for washing the washing feet thing... I've never heard of that. O___o; And rememberance... I dissagree. Anyhow, since it did, guess I might write a bit more in it. I still don't particularly go to church that often. I don't dislike all churches, just most of the one's around here. When I was going to school in AZ, I loved the way worshiped and praised there. When I came back here, it just seemed different, and there are a lot of things I don't agree with (both churches are SDA, I'm SDA, everything I refer to is SDA). I'm not really sure what exactly this all means, but I just don't really go to church anymore.
