The Gateway Universe has been around for a while. It has its share of heroes and villains, many of which have been briefly courted and then dispensed with over the course of its life in my imagination, and in the few short stories I have written.
The Third Parallel is not the first RP I have tried in the Gateway setting. The first, titled Gateway, revolved around Gateway Station, centre of an expanding network of sub-space tunnels which enabled faster than light travel across the galaxy.
And so the first 'real' hero of Gateway should have been junior Watch Officer Ceri Freegard. It was not to be and she slipped aside to make way for a minor character at the time.
Valentine Campbell was the classic space pirate, modelled on Han Solo with a few touches of Jack Sparrow and James Bond. Dashing and debonair, he was always ready for action in and out of the bedroom. He was to be the reluctant hero pitted against...
The first Knight unit, MachineGun Arrow, was an experiment into creating the perfect soldier by GCDF contracted arms manufacturer Arande. Artifically intelligent killing machines designed to protect the Galactic Commonwealth from threats without and within. Unfortunately, they were flawed and developed personalities anathema to their role as guardians.
When the first Norathi attack on Gateway Station took place, MG Arrow was already en route to provide support for out-numbered GCDF and Watch personnel.
To cut a long story short, Valentine Campbell was instrumental in the defeat of the Norathi forces on Gateway and also managing to destroy one of the members of MachineGun Arrow. The remaining Knights fled aboard a stolen Battleship, thier course set for the world of Fortress where the GCDF had been embroiled in a bitter war with the Norathi for many years.
Valentine Campbell was forced to follow the orders of GCDF Fleet Admiral Rawne, and soon found himself the only survivor after his ship, the Poison Kiss, was shot down in orbit.
Arnade has again been trying to create the perfect warrior, this time by crossing human and aesyrean DNA, and resulting in Sylesian Rangers. They had also worked out the problems with the original Knight units, and the renamed Templars were released into the galaxy.
Valentine met, and eventually, fell in love with a Sylesian Ranger named Code, escaped the destruction of Fortress in a stolen GCDF troop transport and fled to Valentine's pirate base on the smallest moon of the gaseous Giant.
The had a daughter; three parts human, one part aesyrean. Her name is Quick Campbell.
