He had slept for... okay, well, there wasn't an exact timeframe. His tail had finally stopped lashing as part of his dream ended, which had made him rest easier. Baakir was still in a numbed state of mind when he felt the first peck. At first he thought it was nothing, but was soon convinced otherwise as beak, wings, and talons started beating at his poor exposed face. He lashed out with one of his paws, his groggy mind not quite taking in the fact he was being attacked yet. His claws came in contact with feathers... and a taloned foot.

The lion let loose a small roar, his eyes finally snapping open to stare at the buzzard that was trying to claim the carcass nearby for himself alone, and he wasn't above attacking the nearby napper as well. Napper? Soon as he batted off the bird again, he stood and glanced quickly around for Zambarau. Before he had time to wonder, it was all out war... just him and that damned bird!

Zam, who had awakened early, had just finished up a small snack of antelope thigh when she heard a roar behind her. Swallowing the last bites, the purple lioness pivoted about and glancced here and there, trying to locate the source of the roar. Where was that coming from?

Then she saw the flapping wings and the paws swatting at it, and she realized that she had left her companion unprotected. Oh, Baakir! It's just a bird! she thought furiously as she ran toward her friend, giving the buzzard a furious look. How dare it! She let out a roar and took a swat at it herself. That was her lion!

Baakir was all entangled up in feathers, legs, wings, and his tail by the time Zam showed up. Small spots on his body were showing small dots of blood where the stupid buzzard had managed to grab ahold. When the paw hit the large scavenger away, he flopped onto his back. His purple savior was here! He rolled and leapt back on his paws, growling towards the buzzard.

The buzzard blinked between both lions for a moment, backing up towards the rotting carcass that was supposed to be his meal. Lions ruined everything! With another lunge, he tried to attack the smaller of the two, who gave a small growl before letting loose a loud roar that made him abruptly change his mind. He flopped over onto the ground, flailing his wings to try and get himself airborne.

Zam spotted bits of blood on Baakir's coat, and she started to growl. That buzzard had hurt her Baakir! Her Baakir! She charged at the winged pest, swatting at it with both forepaws without any real intention to hit it. She just wanted it gone. "Go away!" she roared, not caring whether or not it understood her words. Her body language said the message clearly.

Within a few moments, the bird was gone. Baakir grinned and nuzzled at Zam. "You saved me! Thank you!" He wasn't ashamed to admit it: The bird had been... tied with him. "Where'd you get off to, anyways?" He asked, watching his adversary flying off in the sky, going to look for another meal. Flight would be... focus! He shook his head, looking back at Zam.

Snorting at the retreating bird, Zam gave Baakir a curious look, distracted for a moment by the wounds on his skin. "Stupid bird," she swore, licking at a few of the marks. How dare it! "I went for a snack," she said, sidling up against him. "What happened?"

Baakir thought long and hard about what he was going to say before he said it. "I was too close to his meal and he attacked me." Telling the truth was good, and he didn't lie well, he thought. "Off snacking and you left me all defensless..." He said sadly, head hanging slighty.

Zam gave him a nudge with her hindquarters. Silly Baakir. "Defenseless? You would never survive on your own out here, silly cublet," she told him, swatting gently at his face with a paw. "Come on. Let's go get clean. We're both looking rather filthy." Hunting, eating, and fighting with a bird did leave dust and blood streaks after all, and Zam was up for a bath. A nice cool bath sounded very, very appealing. "Bathtime."

"I'm not out here by myself; I don't have to." He pointed out, offering up a small smile which faded at that word... That awful gods forsaken word. "Bathtime, you mean, like, with water?" No, idiot, she means like... with dirt. Duh! "I'm not that dirty!" A small whine could be detected in his voice, fear firing up in the back of his eyes.

"Well, it's always good to know in case you do end up alone," Zam said in the practical manner of one who had lived out in the unforgiving lands alone. She noticed the whine in his voice and the look in his eyes and cocked her head to one side, giving him a bemused look. "Well... yes. We can't exactly bathe without water," she pointed out before moving at a trot back in the direction of her home rock-maze. How she loved the many hiding places it offered. "Come on!"

As she moved briskly away, Baakir followed. His paws dragged slowly against the ground, his head hung low in a pathetic way. He didn't like baths. Hell, he didn't like water. He watched Zambarau, keeping up his slow walk, like a prisoner to execution. He was coming, just not, you know, fast.

It didn't take Zam too long to notice that her companion was not right on her heels or right beside her, as was his normal custom. A bit bemused, she stopped and glanced back, watching the way his paws dragged and his head hung low to the ground. Oh dear. He didn't look happy. Why? "What's wrong?" she inquired, waiting for him to catch up.

"I don't like baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaths." He whined piteously, looking up with the large cub eyes that had saved him from this fate with his mother so many times when he'd been little. He stopped when he was near her, looking down at his paws. Baakir didn't like trying to make Zam feel pity for him, but most anything beat going in water.

Zam blinked. That was it? "Well, it's kind of necessary, Baakir!" she pointed out, obviously the older and more mature of the two. She tried not to be melted by the big piteous cub eyes, but they did leave a sore spot in her heart. Darn him. When he stopped in front of her, she reached forward and licked his face. "Come on, silly, it won't be that bad. I'll be there with you!" she declared before spinning about and moving off at a quick trot again.

"Fine," he said, though he wasn't done fighting yet. With a long sigh, he picked up his pace, following her to the rocks. In there, places to hide would seem endless, and getting lost among the maze would be... fun! He ducked his head down slightly, using everything in his willpower to keep from smirking.
