I just moved here from Michigan and we always cashed in our cans. Why don't they do it here? It's killing me! Throwing away things that can be reused?!

Up here in Canadian border we recycle, we just can't cash them in. Check around and see if you just need a recycling bin that you put out every week. You won't be paid for it like you are everywhere else, though.

That's dumb. The only incentive that people have to recycle is that they get money for it.... That's why they did it in Michigan.

when I was in denmark it used to be the same, get money for your bottles but here in minnesota everything get's thrown away

The reason they get thrown away is because there is no redemption value for cans, bottles or plastic.
In california there was a surchage added to all soda cans, pop bottles and such that was redeemable at any recycling center.
Because no such deposit is made in minnesota retailers there is also no "buy-back" fund available for recyclers.
