So what was the first song that oppened the gate to this world of EDM?

Wipeout was a video game with wicked beats, it grew from there.

Who changed the name? I didn't see anything wrong with it. It was amusing. smile

I didn't really have a certian song that did it for me. To be honest I can't remember what the first song was. Hmm, it annoys me that I can't remember. Grrr. When I first got into it I went online and just downloaded random things then listened to them to see if I liked them or not. I still do that when I am looking for something new.

lets see... i used to listen to cheesy club stuff in the early 90's without really knowing who or what i was listening to (remind you of a particular forum?) all i knew was i liked "music without words"

then i found out about underworld, fluke, aphex twin, the prodigy a few years later when the electronica buzz started.

It all began when my boyfriend gave me a CD containing a few hours of music by Infected Mushroom ...

My foray into EDM actually began when one day, in late seventh or eighth grade, I was listening to the radio and heard a dance song. I forget what the song was or who it was by, but I just remember having this epiphany of sorts. I realized that ever since I was little, the music that made me the happiest was the dancey stuff (when I was younger I took dance lessons and remembered loving the songs at the recitals). So, using my 13-year-old logic, I thought about what the danciest music possible was - "techno", of course!

So then I went out and started trying to find examples of it on the internet and blah, blah. Here I am today! Yey.

I was sitting in a friend's car, and he started playing some very odd, but appealing music to us. After the song was over, he basically let it sit for a few days, then played another song (the first was "A new way to say hooray" by Shpongle, and I think the second was also by Shpongle). So he slow built up an interest. Over the course of about 2 months, I got acquainted with Shpongle and Hallucinogen.

Normally I would say this is a slow start. But... then came Gaian Mind. 3 days and nights of constant trance. Let's just call it... Not an introduction... Not a life changing event... But a life introducing event biggrin

For me it would have to be when I was about ten or so, my first cd ever was Euro Dance Pool Vol 2. XP Shortly after that I got Much Dance 95 because I really liked the dancey stuff like that. (Never really knew what it was back then. XP) But then I got out of that sort of music for the longest time since all my friends were more into rock and alternative stuff so I conformed to them for quite awhile before getting right back into it some years later. ^_^ Now I'm pretty sure I'm here to stay...

Dance music was very very popular here in around... grade 4 (Ace of Base, random mix tapes & such), but I really started getting into it when I heard Moby's Oil 1 off the Saint Soundtrack... I would listen to that soundtrack over and over and over and over and over but then I lost it crying
