I almost never see people use nydus canals, and i'm wondering why...

Anyone want to comment on their usefullness?

I use em' for fun. But they get sometimes useful too you know...like to move quickly from one base to another and while your units are moving through the canals, they won't get killed like when riding overlords.

I mainly use them when I have bases relatively far apart, and when I feel I'm in danger.
Usually that's when I don't have enough units to defend both bases, so I can take my entire army from one to the other quickly.

Sometimes they help you attack, when you build them in the enemy base, but that rarely works. Occasionally though, you can make an expansion near the enemy with a nydus, and helps a lot with reinforcement time.

I wish Nydus Canals would support air units too. I mean, that'd be crazy. My Guardians aren't so slow now eh? But anyways, they're infinately more useful in team games rather than 1v1s and such. It's hard for me to say though, since I never get worked up on defense as Zerg.

OMG NYDUS BACKDOOR ZvZ.

Uh, I use Nydus for my expos. Quick support or runaway if a base is ever in trouble.

Yes, Nydus Canals really help. It can be the difference between losing an expansion or saving it, especially with islands.

I use them either when I have more than one base or if my allies are zerg.

It's really too bad that you need to have a hatchery in order to have a nydus accopany the area. But depending on the location of your expo, you could possibly do a sort of flanking using nyduses.

I virtually never use Nydus cannals. That said, what I have used them for involves, placing one (the second half) on any enemies creep during an assult, if you get a drown to do a creep colony, you have a defense already without a bloody hatchery. I sometimes use them if I've expanded across the map, and don't want to build a whole other set of hatcheries just because I'm now close to the enemies base. The only problem is if you accidentally use the wrong Nydus canal when you have multiple ones. Minor inconveinence. Mostly though, I just section off things so I fight in a general area against my opponent(s).

Man i love dem canals. if i am zerg and so is my opponent what i do is

1)hit them hard and fast to distract the force
2)use scourge to reveal his main hatchery
3) build one close to it
4) infested terren nuff said
5)also make it easyer for ultras to get into his base

i use them to either reinforce my ally's base, or to complete a 2-pronged attack.

This is a cheap trick that I'm about to reveal to you!

If you don't want to hear it then don't read!

Now you need two zerg players and a terran. The Terran has to be on your team.

Make your friend comsat the other zerg's base so that you can see an opening on the creep. Then you make a nydus canal build there. Then you send your troops through and look at that. You have gotten into your enemie's base and now your owning it.

I might not have explained that good enough.

That's usually fairly difficult to pull off unless the opponent isn't very aware. Or if you're playing something like "The Phantom."

No, its not very difficult in rush games. Cause then you can do it while they're attacking you. Making it very difficult to attack you and protect themselves at the same time.

If they're attacking you and they saw you building the canal in their base, wouldn't they just destroy the one in yours?
