So, what's your favorite basic job to play in FFXI?
The basic jobs are the first 6 - the ones you start the game with. heart
I figured this would be a good question because everyone has had(or does have) a chance to play the basic 6 jobs and most people I talk to at least try all 6 jobs.
My favorite is Red Mage.
I like being able to solo for a long while(though at the higher levels it gets hard) with the mix of magic and weaponry. Plus, I always feel like I'm doing something different - an RDMs duties vary depending on the make-up of the group.
As an RDM I got the chance to play dedicated healer, dedicated nuker, as well as the classic hit-with-weapon-and-enfeeble-at-the-same-time approach ^^

You don't actually have to say "why" you like a particular job, but it might help create some conversation/debate/whatever ^^

ive fallen in love with warrior 3nodding
i havent played too much with the others but i think monk, red mage, black mage, then white mage would be in my favorites in that order. 3nodding

RDM for me!
Personally I find rdm to be the easiest to solo to 11 so u can go to dunes and you can be healer, melee, nuker, or just enfeeble in parties. lots of variety and AWESOME artifact armor, haha

WAR. Best thing to do 1-10 is to use blm sub, and eat pumpkin pie (mp +40) and guzzle some juices. Then just nuke the hell out of anything and get tons of xp chains ^^
But yeah, I like melee mostly...thus why I am DRK.

no love for monks here either?
I finally got to 30 MNK with 15 WAR subjob and I'm hitting an insane level of pure offense. Everytime I hit hundred fists, I absolutely own whatever I'm punching, to the point that if we get ever get links, I'll just tank and DD one by myself with 100fists, dodge and focus, then top it off with a nice combo.
I have a new macro to put up berserk and focus at once every 5 minutes, that combined with some decent gear and food usually makes me among the top hitters of the group.
if only we didn't have to sit looking for a group to pick us up for hours at a time.

O.o; dual wielding axe/sword is pretty damn hot lol, and also, because of the high VIT i can tank with ease too, just need good def+ food and VIT+gear for that ><; it's not as great as a pld's but with full AF i can hold hate better than a nin tank. *_*;; heh gotta love that +15 enmity lol >_>; tanks hate me in partys lol!

But I can however cast flare and yell it and watch 1500 HP drop from whatever I want! ^^ BTW I wouldn't trade my blm for all the gil in vandiel. Altho I have just recently fell in love with the monk job. Also RNG is a great job. I love doing MASS damage to the mobs! ^^

I love doing MASS damage to the mobs! ^^ yea dealing damage is an addicting feeling!!! i am whm, but i almost wish i was a pld just so i could keep my cure spells but do a but of damage at the same time... but na... i'd be a bad tank cuz i'm taru. well not bad, just not very good...
