Ive been thinking about this for a good while. Would it be better to destroy religion, or just leave it be, and hope people come to their senses. Let me here your thoughts on this subject.

I think this is a do the ends justify the means question. If we actively destroy religion then I would say that violates there rights to believe what they want but if we leave them be then we risk more intrusion into our rights to believe (or not believe)

At some point people (In the future more then likely) will come to their senses as science evolves religion dies out, this has been proven many times already.

Before you start preaching freedom, think of all of the religions that allow no freedom, and countries that kill people for not believing in a specific religion.

Hyaku59 Before you start preaching freedom, think of all of the religions that allow no freedom, and countries that kill people for not believing in a specific religion. But not all religions do this. Also, how would you go about destroying a religion?

The need for meaning in one's life is a basic human necessity. Many people, for thousands of years, have used religion of many different directions to satisfy this part of themselves. Atheists or other non-believers label themselves these things for the very same reason -- they seek meaning by creating their own, thus doing the same thing as those with religion, without the God/god(s). Getting rid of religion wouldn't cause everyone to become atheists (not only is it entirely impossible), it would just cause people to change their beliefs one again, and a new religion will arise. There will always be a belief system for someone to latch on to. EDIT: Also, Deathbygraterandluke not necessarily you could force everyone to study science for example and your country could probably make a great amount of progress in the sciences. Yes, you would get progress in the sciences, but what of the other fields? If the public is allowed to choose whatever they are best at and get better at it, then the society is bettered as a whole. But if you force people who are not as naturally good at something to do it, then they aren't doing something they are good at. You've got to weigh the opportunity costs and all that economic stuff.

Assuming that everyone was given the freedom to invent stuff and publish their findings. Besides, people who aren't really interested in science in the first place aren't going to get much out of studying it anyway so that may not be true.

A religion has the right to be, just as we atheists. Although atheism is not fully accepted. And, if religions were destroyed religion based governments around the world would fall. Anarchy would follow soon after, most people would probably lose the reason for living, the thing to look forward to after death. The world would descend into chaos.

Part of me wants to destroy all religion.
But what I really want is for people to destroy religion of their own volition.
I just hope that some day in the future that having a religion won't be the social norm.

i also agree with human carbine as long as fools who believe in god are there songs in there devotion will be sung
what people don't understand is that the fact its their inability of
overcoming their own problems was responsible for these gods creation.
if u r there,then there is world.if u die here not even god make u scream his name.
if u believe he is there,he is.if u don't then he is not.
