current meme on deviantart is the influence map. it's basically what sources inspire you. and it's tough because lots of things may inspire you so you have to keep adding into the map. i had trouble actually pinpointing some of my inspirations because i am inspired by so much. but i was able to do it and it was soso fun! ^q^ (it was also hard because i had to leave some inspirations out. apparently i am inspired a lot by porn and porn artists on pixiv ahahaaaa)

here is the blank template for you to play with: http://fox-orian.deviantart.com/art/Influence-Map-Template-174550753

and here is mine! (censored, with the description copy+pasted from my da gallery lmao)

1. color! i sure do love every color there is and i love playing with every color there is. mainly neon colors.

2. gore and blood. another fun thing to work with. i really dont do it justice with my work but seeing guro art inspires me.

3. jet set radio. my favorite game series of all time everrrrrr. the art, they style the music and the flow of everything to this day continues to inspire me. i really wish i knew who did the character art for this game, i would stalk their art forever.

4. junko mizuno's art. since highschool her art has been a big part of my life. i love the way she interprets things and her style is so gooey. fun fact! in highschool i bought a copy of hell babies and i brought it in for my art teacher to see, because she loved seeing new artists and such. she took one look at the book and called the art smutty and trashy. lmaooooo

5. jem and the holograms! my favorite cartoon series when i was a lil thing. i used to want to be jem. she was so pretty and she had all these awesome clothes (clothes i still love) and aaaa. the songs are so catchy and i love how 80s everything is.

6. 80s fashion. as long as there is life in my body i will never stop loving 80s fashion. i will never stop wearing leggings and bright colors. ******** the world i am taking the 80s to my grave.

7. brian lee o'mally's art. his style is so top notch and peechy keen, but so simple looking at the same time. love love love

8. sudacci's art. for year's i thought she was called mari-chan, but i think that is one of her oc's? either way she as been an inspiration to me for a while. her menstrual dreamer piece especially. i love the way she makes blood look so cute and acceptable.

9. bust a groove. another game series i really liked. the character design especially. each character has a specific dance style and their appearance fit them so well.

10. chiho aoshima (or superflat art in general). not much i can say that has already been said! i also really love the superflat movement. a whole whole bunch.

11. rockabilly subculture. i love the music, the style, and atmosphere. everything! sooo gooood

12. kanashimi no belladonna. i love the way the story was told through paintings. animation was used, but it was used almost sparingly? (it was used a lil more than sparingly but i cant think of the word hnnngh) the way things were represented was really beautiful.

13. lady gaga. i am in love. with her and her music.

14. graffiti. this relates back to jet set radio, but i love the style and the subculture surrounding graffiti.

15. hirohiko araki's art. everything he draws looks like a beautiful statue. i love the way he doesnt pick and choose color schemes for his characters and just plays with color. i love how his grasp of anatomy is so unique. everything he doessssss~~~. i also, just like him, never want to age ever.

16. inio asano's art. his art seems really simple, but the way he tells a story sometimes hits a little too close to home. he is so great.

17. new york city. me home away from home. the city as a whole just filled me with life and inspiration and everything about it was great. i miss the city a whole bunch ;-;

I'm not much of an artist. But that doesn't stop me from looking at lots and lots of art and stuff. So, here's my My influence map.

1. Piet Mondrian, & the neoplasticim movement. Simple, geometric, and primary colours.
2. Kandinsky. I love his doodles!
3. Chiho Aoshima. Her mix of urban and nature (and bright colours) inspires me.
4. Nitrome games (skywire). Nitrome produce beautifully pixelated flash games. Skywire is a favourite, where you must negotiate a rollercoaster while avoiding being killed by the cutest animals.
5. Banksy. Grafitti + stencils. I love the illusions he creates.
6. Shag. Art based on 50's advertising, often with a comically sinister edge.
7. Picross. Logic puzzles and pixel art. A combination of two of my favourite things.
8. Japanese woodblock prints & ghosts. Hokusai made so many, but the more simple and creepy ones capture my imagination the most.
9. Kodama (from Princess Mononoke). Simple looking things, but I adore how each one has a different expression.
10. Usborne puzzle adventure books. Comics with code-breaking. Each illustration would hide important details, and I loved reading solving these books.
11. Quentin Blake's illstrations in Roald Dahl books. The more horrid the character, the more deformed and crazy looking they were drawn.
12. d**k Dastardly (and other cartoon villains). The bad guys are always more interesting.
13. Thundercats. Because, 80's cartoons didn't have to make any sense.

I'm in the midst... which is interesting that I even want to, since I practically never post any of my art on gaia. So there's no point of reference.

But it's interesting.

I can't make one at the moment, but I know mine would consist of a lot of mangakas and Dave McKean.
Actually McKean, Squeenix, Hiromu Arakawa, Andy Warhol, Pretty much solid lines, powerful colours. I love that.
