theres a lily pad in a pond the lily pad is half the length of the pond if the lily grows half its length a month if it continues to do this how long will it take to fill the pond??????

well let's see
Start: .5 lake
add .25=.75
end month 1
add .375=1.125
so by the end of the second month it will have overtaken the pond
now what if it added 1/2 of the remaining area of the pond a month instead of half its own length

well then again, since it will only cover the surface, it will never "fill" the pond, only cover it.
