For bad guys who don't want to be caught, I have a few suggestions.
There are seven types of killers: Visionaries, missionaries, hedonists, Lust killers, Thrill killers, gain killers, and power killers. Each has a weakness and strength.
An example would be light was a Visionary. He wanted to be god of the new world. His strength was his incredible intelligence. His weakness was his ego.
Serial killers look normal to all people. This is why they avoid detection for so long. Only friends and family (Who's opinions are hopelessly biased anyway) could find signs.
Dna evidence is found in every action. No matter how careful you are, the second an object meets a new surface SOMETHING is always left behind.
Kills in one area are too suspicious. Deaths by one reason are too suspicious. Death of one type of victim is too suspicious.
The odds of "Getting away with it" are reduced based on numbers.
It is usually apparent how a person finds victims. It's a clue that the police use to find the killer.
Although police have a record of all violent and sexual crimes, any cases not of those juristiction aren't recorded, and if they are are recorded badly or not kept on a universal system. (If you crossed geographic distance, the likely hood of it being by the same person decreases.)
The death note... I'll save that in case I get an opportunity.

Cool! This is amazingly helpful! It helped me a lot (especially since I'm a Kira), and helped me think about what to go for. Thanks!
The only advice I would give, are those seven types of killers. I don't know what's a hedonist. The rest, I can give a guess.
Light as an example was an awesome example!

Thank you! ^^
A hedonist is a person who kills for pleasure. Usually, they might kill while getting stuff out of it. Unlike lust killers or gain killers, they take advantage before, not after, the murder is commited.
gonk Unfortunately these, with lust killers are the most charming.

what about the killers are are "careful"? What if they dusted away everything they touched?Like BB o-o And,what about those who commit "Gay scenes"?Like the murderer(or prank) in Belgium with the mutilated thighs and abdomen? The thighs were clearly shaved, providing no evidence of who the victim could be.(Of course, they would need matching DNA in order to find the victims true identity but,in this case that was unprovided.)

Originally there was a dichotomy that organized killers into two categories. The organized and the unorganized. Technically, BB would be under the organized. Although I would say that this dichotomy is ineffective because it generalizes too much. I would say that BB would fit the visionary category best. He has a goal and will do anything to complete his goal. His IQ is just significantly higher than most people.

Yes,but I could easily not get caught over silly mistakes,And my IQ is much lower then most people.Anyone with simple common sense would easily know to dust the places they have touched, although the unorganized would do something idiotic, like covering their tracks, like spilling the blood everywhere or something.

The MO and Signature are INEVITABLY different. Saying that evan is exactly like L in logic would be wrong. Evan actually gets out of the house and is somewhat fit. You can see people's date of death and you drug and kill people. Unlike him, you don't dust for everything, you don't lock doors, you're not OCD, and you act in public. Of course your MO is off, but you can still inject part of your character into BB. I will try to hunt you. It would be as Evan but, Evan does things too quickly. While the killers now excede the detectives, Having two characters is too hard. LDK will try to kill BB.

Interesting. The fact that I do not have the characteristics of BB are simply because I cannot get into the thoughts of my character. As Mello said once, this way of narration doesn't suit me.And as everyone knows,I cannot be what I am not.Anyways, the only thing me and BB do have in common is Sadism (I doubt he has it,but the ability to kill takes alot of mental stability, especially hoe he mutilated all his victims),our posture, and or unusual eating habits.I completely contrast from my character in all other ways.LDK will fail in his long hunt on chasing BB,who will soon disappear from existence at the end of this roleplay(which I doubt will happen). (Evan is complete different then L for those reasons only? not really enough,I mean,L does get out of the house,he just doesn't go out into public often, like mello also said,L is doing all within his power to keep himself safe from danger) Jesus thats alot o.o

Actually, I am like L in alot of ways. My eating habits, sitting habits, fighting habits, and hobbies are actually very similar. I even hold things like him and put my finger on my lip the same way (although a few of these habits were before watching the show.) Evan is different from L because I somewhat like creativity and realism. Evan is anti-social personality disorder. L is autistic. (That's not a lie. think about it.)

the ideals of L were actually a more improvised version of Sherlock Holmes if you think of it, L being Sherlock and Watari being his assistant. Well, that's how I've always thought of it. My character Jason is a mix between Dirty Harry,K'(from the king of fighters series) and an average teenager. Think about it.

Sorry, but L is not autistic. The most basic sign of autism is the hatred of being touched, and the avoidance of looking someone in the eye. It is also to not have the ability to identify with people, in a more extreme case. L does not exhibit any of these characteristics.
On the other hand, Einstein was labeled mentally retarded when he was alive. His brain operated on such a high level that he could not comprehend simple things. Phone numbers were unfathomable to him because they had no pattern, and street maps were too simple for him to comprehend. This is known as Einstein Syndrome. L does not exhibit these characteristics, either.
Basically, he's just odd xD The writer of Death Note did not seat him with any known mental defect. He's just weird ^^;

While those points are highly valid, there are more than one type of Autism. Some can be as affecting as mental retardation, or some can be high functioning as in Asberger's (I think I spelt that wrong) Basically my trade of thought is that he is highly intelligent, Doesn't work well with others and has regressed to a childhood state of habit. Another characteristic is a highly habit based life and obsession over things. They don't work well with people unless they are forced to. I know a little kid with this disease and he's highly intelligent knowing things, that I would have never learned ever, although he has little sense of social rules. Secondly, My teacher had a child in his class with autism who never fit in, but was the only kid to get hundreds on all of his exams. That was a first diagnosis. If after reading this you still do not agree, There are people who exhibit similar traits to L in fiction and reality. For now, only three come to mind:
Sheldon cooper (Big bang theory) He's domineering, childlike, highly intelligent, and able to think many moves ahead.
I don't know his name but he's the kid who passed college at age eight. He was the smartest kid in known america but, he was very childish. He jumped across a rock and squealed like a kid saying, "Look at me dad. I did it!!!" He was like 17 at the time.
Raymond "Rainman"- had autism that rewired his brain to have perfect memory, but I don't think he could apply it.
Different autisms have different symptoms. All of them have brain defficiencies, but some have Amazing plasticity and can recover with better abilities.
L's symptoms: Childish in nature (Stays up past bedtime, constant sugar with justification, sitting like a little kid, and hating to lose to the point of actual depression) Great memory While I'm not sure completely about that one, but in the movie L change the world he remembered one name from an entire library of thick volumes. social inconvention obsessions with things Only taking up cases he wants to. Other abilities as wellThis includes speed reading, enhances logical processing and mathematics.
