I want to know who you think are the biggest contributers to J-Rock. I want to know who and why.
I'd have to say X-Japan because in my opinion they are what got J-Rock started. They were probably one of the biggest contributers in my book. I don't think some of the bands we have now would be around without them.
Well that's my opinion, what's yours?

Question: Why exactly do you feel that way about X Japan? What is it that makes you feel "they are what got J-Rock started?" Is it just because they are popular? I'm just curious. That's all. Personally, I don't see much of a dent being made by any of the X Japan members outside visual kei.

It has nothing to do with them being popular or that they did visual kei. It was more of their music. I think that hide was probably the one that contributed the most out of X-Japan. He was a great guitar player and inspired many people. I'll admit they did do a lot for visual kei but J-Rock is J-Rock whether or not they do visual kei has nothing to do with the music they play. That's just my opinion, I'm sure that a lot of people disagree, but that's fine because a opinion is just that an opinion.

Many people think of visual as a bit of an embarassment, many Japanese people..many Japanese musicians. How did X Japan even touch outside of visual? Personally, I'd go with The Blue Hearts having more of an effect on visual and non-visual. Every Japanese punk band wants to be like them. Even not-so-punk bands want to be them. I've seen them referred to in more interviews than I'd like to think of right now.

I think XJapan just popularized visual kei. That was their.. contribution to Jrock.
(Kazuki from Peelander-Z used to be in a Blue Hearts cover band in HS. I think.)

I agree that The Blue Hearts have had a major impact on J-Rock. It's hard to explain why I think X-Japan has had an impact on J-Rock, because, well my reasons can be confusing, and I could spend hours on telling you why, but I'm not going to. They did a lot as far as I'm concerned, that's what I think. To really understand you'd have to do research on the history of J-Rock.

You know...I've done the research, and I'm just not seeing it. They've inspired a handful of artists, the top of the list being Kaoru (who's work as of recent has been too covered in distortion to discern any redeeming quality and he seems to be more of a carbon copy of Sugizo than anything anyway), and they've produced a couple bands who would have been fine enough on their own.
Anyway, reasons would help. Without them, a person becomes just another fangirl.

Well, after already having researched the history of J-Rock, we're saying they didn't have that much of an effect on the music. And you're not even bothering to prove us wrong... You can't claim something is true, and expect people to agree, without explaining why. It's like saying "Kyo and Utada Hikaru had a baby but I won't tell you how I found out." Anyway. Peelander-Z really started J-Rock.

X-Japan DEFINITELY aren't the biggest contributors in JRock. It''s just as Stated previously by kaidan and others, they were visual that's about it. I don't disagree that they had good music, but not the biggest contributors. That's like saying Dir en grey isn't becoming americanized. It's just not true. 3nodding

The problem is in American Jrock fandom, all the bands are visual kei, pretty much, and XJapan were probably the biggest contributors to visual kei... ..but visual kei doesn't have much to do with the music.
