Ithil was too speechless, too shocked, and far to embaressed to answer. His throat was tight, eyes wide, and his whole face was flushed with red. Great, not only had he made an idiot of himself in front of her, but now he'd insulted her! He always prided himself at being the more political and peace keeping of the two twins, and now he figuratively had both feet in his mouth along with his fist too.
This had been a most humiliating first impression for him.
Without a second breath, a shadow from behind began to move up on his right side, his eye blinking fast as he focused in on the taller Guardian standing just in front of him on an angle. It was a shielding technique and an intimidation position...well, at least that's how Ithil read it. He'd studied the behaviors and actions of body guards in case he had to intuperret their actions in a negiation.
"L-Lady Kelbora, what are you-"
Kelbora's eyes narrowed, her attention never leaving the young elf female or Ithil's brother. "We have accomplished what we have come here for, I have seen the brother who Ithil give permission to be near his without an apparent breech of safety. Any further interaction this late at night would be pointless and most likely lead to a hostile situation." The vampire said her posture ridged and firm.
Ithil looked puzzled now and looked at Kelbora with curiosity and mild bewilderment, "My Lady, why would you think further interaction would be hostile?" The young prince asked.
Kelbora's eyes flickered to Elenath and she scowled, "According to Gleir, the only person I am permitted to take orders from, I cannot let you out of my sight unless it is for sanitation, confidential inquiries, and/or privied events. And since this is none of these, and I am very tired, annoyed, and loosing patients with a certain smart mouth; it is best to retire for the evening. Besides, you obviously have little to no interaction skills with members of the opposite sex in reguards to informal situations."
Ithil blushed. He couldn't really argue with that last comment. But "smart-mouth"? This beautiful firey haired woman? ...Well given they had only met a few moments ago, and she was rather quick tounged and witted...er...okay, so she was a smart-mouth. But a very cute smart-mouth.
"Lady Kelbora, I'm sure if Miss...uh...well, forgive me dear- I mean, maiden, I don't know your name. If the young maiden insulted you in some way, I'm sure she did not intend it." There. He may not know women, but he definately knew peace talks and calming situations down. Stick to what ya know.
Kelbora's eyes flickered back to Ithil, "Call me Lady one more time and I'll declair that you've insulted me. It's General, got that? I worked my a** off my whole life to obtain the title of High Lord among my people, which would be the equivalance of a General among yours." That made Ithil blush again, but Kelbora's eyes were now all for Elenath, "And if the young princess were truely as schooled in terms of her duties as she claims, then perhaps she and her tounge would be far more mindful of what beast she declairs abhoration for." Her statement ended with a snarl.
Now Ithil was really puzzled. His Guardian did not like the Fox Princess because she hated cats? Then it accured to him. Kelbora had taken her coat off after the two had finally sat down to speak with each other back in his room; he had noticed and inquired about the interesting symbol on her armor. And clear as day, the same mark was tattooed on her left arm: Der Unsterblich Tigeress, or 'The Undying Tigeress' in Elven translation.
The tucked head of a tigeress against its chest, front and back paws tucked inward as the tail at the end of it's body splits into the tail of a phoenix. The out streched wings of a dragon are depicted behind the side view of the seemingly slumbering beast representing the ancient balance of light and dark, life and death, the symbol of the Phoenix and the symbol of the Dragon giving the Tigeress endless rebirth and limitless power of death. Tigers are symbols of strength in Vampiric culture, and a Tigeress is the symbol for limitless devotion...as females are revered as protective and nurturing creatures that trandsend life and death. As the animal symbols of the Elven Clans are sacred, so too is the creature upon a Vampiric family crest.
If someone had insulted a wolf before himself or his brother, negativity towards the offender would insue as it would with any member of a Clan.
Ithil was schooled in diplomatic relations and other cultures. To help him understand the differences, his professors had made reference to foregin concepts by comparing them to things he was familiar with...and this was one of them. Though the symbols and meanings of most Elven and Vampiric depictions are different; animals, plants, lands, and gods are usually the same. It was a large tattoo in black ink set against pale skin...but he had to calm this down...and to be honest, he really wanted to change the opinions of his Guardian in reguards to the Fox princess. He wanted to meet with her again, so for visits to be a pleasent topic, Kelbora had to not have negitive feelings towards her.
"L-I mean, General Kelbora...in Elenath's defense the princess's attention was directed at me, and not her audience. I'm sure she meant no disrespect or intent to provoke a disagreement." Ithil said and smiled at his Guardian before looking back to Elenath, making a silent plea for her to follow his lead a bit. "She has probably not had positive interactions with those who share the affinity for feline creatures as you do, so perhaps this oversight can be forgiven in light of unintentionally generalizing?" Ithil made a silent prayer that it would be. "Perhaps as our time together progresses, enlightenment and acceptance can be gainned through understanding. Would this not be the best course of action?" He concluded, sealign his negotiation with a smile.
Everything was silent for a long moment. Kelbora had directed her attentions to the young prince the moment he addressed her, and she analyzed him now. It was a through scrutany, a complete contemplation, and atiquit assesment of the young lord's words...and she returned his sweet smile, watching the young man relax a bit with ease.
"Mein Herr that was a very well thought out, very skillfully presented, and tactfully presented show of a soon-to-be politican's tounge. I applaude your astute grasp of such a difficult art with respect and a slight of pride." She continued to smile at him, the boy's own fading around the edges...and suddenly gone when Kelbora's face went hard with the true meaning behind her words, "To bad a smooth politian's tounge no longer had any effect on me."
This had been a most humiliating first impression for him.
