At night I'll hang my head in shame... ~Ẑℯ√ тℌℯ ß@ḓαṧṧ ◎ᾔℯ ~ "A few miles, but I know a shortcut, so to speak." Zev noted. "It will take us through the plains..." she then continued trekking through her surroundings and mostly keeping quiet. Now that the rain had passed and the sun began to shine, the wet was slowly drained from this part of the world and so things became much clearer to Zev. The main thing she knew was that she now needed to get back to the den, and quickly. Perhaps you could call it a 'mother's instinct', even though Zev wasn't actually a mother. She shook the thought of worry away and concentrated her thoughts on the 'now'. Zev suddenly stopped dead in her tracks and sniffed the air. Something or rather someone was in the distance.
It was as if the die had been rolled; the plot now set. An alpha far away, two strangers appearing, a cub alone and a lone hunter out stalking his prey. This was only the preface of the tale though, more chapters would unfold themselves soon. More lone wolves would come and the new blood would find themselves becomming the heart of the pack. Who knew what awaited them...? ... all because I still remember your name... OOC: Yay for summarization xd

"The plains?" Riyora echoed softly, mostly to herself. Iarni turned to share an expression of bewilderment to her sister, before proceeding onwards. Both wolves walked with a new ambition, a new excitement. Suddenly Riyora's nervous fear had evaporated, but much quickly, however, than the rainwater that was being eased out of the wood by the sun. Light shone down in frequent pillars through gaps in the leaves above, like weightless, golden curtains, and the two wolves crossed pools of yellow which had gathered in puddles on the forest floor.
Suddenl Zev came to a stop so abruptly Iarni almost tumbled into her back legs, and the cub retreated with a little "ngrng!" Rioyra, noticing how the white wolf sniffed the air, copied the action. The moisture still made scent-finding a considerable challenge, but the freshness of the air still betrayed the scent of another wolf - undoubtedly, a member of Zev's pack. Instinctively Riyora's hackles arose slightly, not in a threatening manner in the least. It was simply a gesture she could not completely suppress, activated by fear and uncertainty.
"Who's that?" she Zev. "That wolf on the wind. Is he a part of your pack?"

At night I'll hang my head in shame... ~Ẑℯ√ тℌℯ ß@ḓαṧṧ ◎ᾔℯ ~ Zev ignored the fact that Iarni had almost walked into her and busied herself working out who the wolf was. The scent on the air was not strong enough for her to desipher a name but it was enough to work out that he was a member of her pack."Yes, but this doesn't make sense: he's alone. He should be with the rest of them. What the hell's going on?" Zev uttered under her breath. To Zev it didn't make sense. When she'd left the pack they had all gone out hunting and her pack either went hunting together or not at all, but this wolf was alone. She crept up to the edge of the forest to see what he was doing: hunting. Hunting meant food; real food and this attracted Zev's attention most of all. She knew that Riyora was hungry and so perhaps they could join in uninvited. Why not? Zev was of course his leader after all...
For a while Zev merely watched Kaytar and studyied his movements. He too was watching and waiting, but he was looking at a faun and its mother who was looking straight at her. "Riyora, if you've got any thing left in you come here and give me a hand," Zev then turned around and motioned to her to come closer. "See them meat-racks there? We're taking them out before that twit looses them. He'll come from behind, we'll trap them from the front. Move!"

Riyora stared in utter shock at Zev. "You're trusting me already to hunt with you?" she questioned, eyebrows raised. She then cast a glance at the shadowy figure lying crouched at the mouth of the forest. He had a lean, muscular build, and was large for a male wolf. His fur was pale and silvery, and beautifully dappled by the shadows cast by the leaves up above, contributing greatly to how mysteriously predatory he looked... This unnamed hunter had not seen them yet, and from this angle, Riyora could not see his eyes.
"And... it looks like he's going for that fawn," she pressed quietly. "He can't take an adult but he should manage fine with the youngster... All he needs to do is separate it from the others, pursue it until it becomes tired, and, well... He'll have a kill. Let's just... wait..." There was something about this wolf, by his lean build and tense form, that told Riyora he'd already calculated his actions and fore-planned the consequences.
* * *
With hardly a rustle of the leaves Kaytar was thrust forward by the invisible springs in his back legs. As such, the nearby herd scattered - just what he'd expected. The fawn, its mother, and three others darted off to his right. The wolf turned slightly and watched patiently as they sped off, gaining speed and leaving him behind whilst he continued on a steady lope that neither increased or fell in speed. The four does were swift, and the fawn was flighty, but not as precise in its bounds. Its thin legs splayed awkwardly against the sea of grass, and soon, it found itself drifting further away from the safe presence of its mother. This was when Kaytar began to quicken his pace, his tongue flying and his hungry eyes burning into the bleating body of the baby deer.
* * *
Without a word from Zev for approval, Riyora took a deep breath, and burst forward, weaving through the trees with a new, focused intent. She flew into the green plain, following the narrowed path that Kaytar had forged in the soft, wet grass, and pursued the pair with her eyes on the fawn, now hopelessly cut-off from its mother. The hunter and his prey were quite a distance from Riyora.... but she would catch up.

At night I'll hang my head in shame... ~Ẑℯ√ тℌℯ ß@ḓαṧṧ ◎ᾔℯ ~ Trusting? Hell no... just time for me to see what you can do... she thought to herself in an amused tone and she bolted out of the forest and into the plain. She stopped hard and leaned forward in a crouched position so that the deer could not see her and yet she could still she them; and the wolves. "Ahh, screw it, she'll deal with the faun. If she can't then I'll jump in. Simple as." From her viewing spot, Zev could see that Riyora was getting closer to the faun. With time, Zev was more than certain that she'd bring it down. The other wolf seemed to be doing just fine and it looked as if it was all too easy for him. Zev shrugged this off and concentrated on where she might butt in and join the troupe.

Kaytar increased his speed very gradually, not enough to be sprinting after the fawn like a wild cat, but enough so that the distance was slowly being cut. The fawn, however, maintained a strong and bounding pace, out of fear more than anything. The youngster was beyond the help of the rest of its herd now. Its torn mother and the three does watched from afar, motionlessly observing its end with the passive sadness grazers have adopted after years of watching their offspring be chased to their deaths.
Kaytar was now almost upon the fawn. He could feel the soft thrum of its hooves thudding the ground, see the grass weave and swing out of its way. He could hear its panicked breath, the odd bleat of fright. His jaws were inches from its hooves, open, preparing to close around a dainty shin, or an ankle, to drag it down. Kaytar was precise in his hovering, though, and watched carefully for kicks, always going at the same tireless pace. Almost... So close to snapping that fragile bone...
With a shriek of pain the fawn stumbled, and rolled, to a stop. Its legs flew and kicked once while Kaytar kept a strong hold on its back leg, twisting its lean form beyond escape. He released the wounded limb and moved forwards to stand beside the fawn, silent in its acceptance of death. Kaytar panted, turned his proud, satisfied face - and spotted Riyora easing to a slow trot before stopping several meters away from him.
* * *
Riyora froze and watched as the strange wolf's eyes widened. His hackles flew up. She shied away slightly, flattening her ears. Maybe, her intervention wasn't so much of a good plan, after all... He was a strong, experienced immature male, confident enough to let the fawn lie beside him without any hold, free to attempt escape, but knowing he would simply catch it again, and again...

Rina sat silently under an old oak tree. The sun hung low in the sky casting late shadows all throughout the forest. A dead doe lay a few feet away from her. She had seen a male chase away it little baby and had decided to take the mother. As she sat watching the slowly sinking sun her best friend Alia walked toward her.
"How much longer until we reach this pack you've talked so much about?" Rina asked softly as Alia tor away some meat from the dead doe.
"Another few hours or so. I havent been here in a while so I assume they may have changed to a new location but we'll check there last one first so as to be certain we dont miss them." Alia explained around the mouthful of meat.

At night I'll hang my head in shame... ~Ẑℯ√ тℌℯ ß@ḓαṧṧ ◎ᾔℯ ~ A doe was getting away; now was Zev's chance to put her skills to the test. Her rage grew and she snarled often as she tactically moved swiftly towards the doe's route of escape. As she got closer, the doe began to run faster still, but Zev was more than a match for this meat-sack. It stumbled; a fatal mistake. The doe now had to slow its pace now that it had hurt itself and Zev saw her chance. She pounced onto the doe's chest and brought it down with ease. It fought back a little but Zev soon found her way to its neck and shut her eyes as she snapped it. CRACK! The doe's eyes rolled upwards and its life was no more. The group now had more than enough food to eat and take back with them to the den, which was good enough to take note of because that the rest of the herd had fled because of Zev's sudden action.
"You lost them; fool!" Zev barked angrily at Riyora once she noticed that the latest installment of the pack had done nothing but stand in the middle of the plains during all the interesting stuff. "What are you, predator or prey? And you," she immediately addressed Kaytar with a sudden change in tone, "nice catch!" Zev then nodded in approval as she went back to attend to her own little something, or rather not so little something and dragged it over to Riyora. "Since I'm feeling nice, you can take half of this beasty. I'm sure it'll be enough for yourself and your sister. The rest is for myself and my boy..." she cut herself off short once she thought about Faolán. "Faolán! I'll be there soon!" she called out knowing that he'd hear her.

Kaytar nodded acknowledgement to Zev, quite impressed by the swiftness of her kill. Not only had she been able to take advantage of the doe's stumble so quickly, but she'd also found the strength to break the animal's neck. Such a feat was close to impossible to wolves. Even now, he pondered hard over how to seal his own hunt. The fawn was still trembling at his feet, seemingly oblivious to its injured leg. Terror had bleached out its pain.
"Thank you, although your prize is a little more admirable," Kaytar replied to his leader. He then resumed the stare on Riyora, penetrating and fierce. And what about you? What's your name? Zev... have you taken in a new member?"
Riyora cowed, then shyly smiled at his iron face. "My name is Riyora," she murmured with obnoxious emphasis. "Myself and my sister, back in the wood, are the last wolves of the Diamond Mountain Pack... We had nowhere else to go, so-"
"I care little about your past," Kaytar broke in a little coldly. "I'm not interested in where you came from. I doubt I ever will be."

Back in the forest, bordering the Green Plain, Iarni crouched huddled underneath a prickly holly shrub. Her muddy, brown-and-black fur provided astonishing camouflage against the earthy tones of the floor and the leaf-litter, unlike the streak of blue on the wolf she could see up ahead in a clearing. Iarni could hear two voices yet only one origin could be seen. She shivered but made no sound, as still as a shadow. Where was Riyora...?

(( they are wolves. is the post confusing?? ))
Rina yawned widely then shook her head as she got to her paws and stretched. "We best keep moving. If we're trespassing I wouldn't want to be caught out here." Alia muttered as she looked around.
Rina nodded once. "I have to agree. Though I wouldn't mind a good fight I want to keep peace.... at the moment." She turned and lead the way deeper into the woods then stopped. She scented a strange and unfamiliar wolf. "Seems we have a bit of company." Alia muttered lifting her head higher and examining every leaf and beam of light that surrounded them.
"As long as its not enemy I'm not worried to much." Rina said quietly as she put her nose to the ground and sniffed the ground for any signs of the new mysterious wolf.
****
Shade sat quietly on a rock a few miles from were Rina and Alia were. He could see the sun beginning to go down and his spot on the sun tanned rocks was beginning to cool.
He had let Rina and Alia go on ahead so as to look for this new pack ALia had discovered however he was not to excited to come into contact with yet another pack.

At night I'll hang my head in shame... ~Ẑℯ√ тℌℯ ß@ḓαṧṧ ◎ᾔℯ ~ Zev rolled her eyes and tried to look at and try to take her thoughts away from the impending debate. "Nobody seems to care right now, to be honest," she muttered under her breath, not even bothering to show that she was speaking to Riyora. "Still, something's not right. Where are the others? By God I hope that those... MEN did not come barging through and cut them down like they were nothing." Zev hated humans more than anything and what they did to her kind gave her more of a reason to. She'd be in an even fouler mood if she were to find out that this was true. Her pack was vanishing and strays were showing up all over the place. It made no sense whatsoever.
Zev shook her head with distaste and she then decided that she'd now need to attend to Faolán and his feeding needs. Their den wasn't so far away and so Zev would easily be able to drag her share of the doe's carcass with her, since she couldn't quite remember if Faolán was still eating regurgitated food or solids, plus it would have been nice to have some privacy while she herself ate. She ripped off a lump and mouthed a sort of 'be right back' and off she went as quickly as she could. As she neered the den, she called out to him, "Faolán, I'm here!" and dashed inside speedily.

"Mum! You're back!" Faolán yipped with joy. "I was so worried..." he cut himself off completely as he nuzzled her. Due to this, Zev had now dropped the food and began play-wrestling with him and Faolán's playfulness didn't help much. They rolled back and forth across the den floor, leaving the food to one side for a moment. Zev always had a soft spot for cubs but she couldn't work out why and it was most likely the reason why she had chosen to adopt Faolán all those years ago. The truth was sad though, but the happiness both Faolán and the alpha shared was something that Zev could not bring herself to tear appart. Eventually Faolán gave in and turned his attention to the meat his mother had brought back with him. He was currently lying upside down with his belly to the air, and so rolled over, got up and padded over to it with interest. He gradually took several bites out of it and his eyes beamed with restored solace. He was hungry; they both were. Faolán stuck his head up to watch Zev come to join him and they both gnawed at the food.

OOC: Na, not confusing at all. But do you intend for them to transform into humans, at all?
Riyora and Kaytar watched in mutual surprise as the white wolf streaked across the Plains, carrying a hunk of the doe's flesh in her mouth. Then Kaytar, without warning, jumped down on the fawn and started gorging its throat. He kept chewing until the squirming, shrieking animal stilled and the blood stopped bubbling in its open neck. Its big, bright eyes became glassy and dull at the same time. Unfazed by the brutality of his actions, Kaytar licked his jowls and peered at Riyora curiously.
"Your sister..." he said. "If she's young, you'd better return to wherever you left her. Lots of loning wolves keep hanging around, like flies. We don't want them but they come in anyway. Occasionally Zev's pack has to fight them. You'd better go and find her, before they do. I expect only we know you're here..."
Riyora's eyes widened. "Of course!" she exclaimed, clearly horrified. "I must go. And I'm sorry for... startling you, or annoying you. I just... nevermind..." With a solemn bow of her great head, Riyora turned and sprinted across the grass, following the narrow, flattened path she'd carved into the sloping turf. Kaytar shook his head in contempt, before lowering his head to begin the task of dragging his hunt back to the Den.
* * *
Iarni could tell that the wolves had sniffed her out. Their body language had changed and they had turned away from the brown corpse. Such a waste! she thought scornfully. But her irritation slithered away like water trickling down a hole as their searching only continued. Using cubbish wisdom, Iarni hoped that the simplest solution would be the most effective, and laid still. She had a chance of escape as long as she never moved, and the rainwater should cover most of her scent, if not completely...

At night I'll hang my head in shame... ~Ẑℯ√ тℌℯ ß@ḓαṧṧ ◎ᾔℯ ~ The meat Zev had brought in with her had now vanished and both she and Faolán were fast asleep in at the back of the den; or so it seemed. Zev was tired out after her long day of adventuring and so was in deep sleep; her soft snoring was the only thing disturbing the silence of the den. She had positioned herself so that if he chose to do so, Faolán would be able to snuggle up to her. He had done this and so Zev's arm had flopped itself over him and it was almost as if she was cuddling him. Zev's nostrils flared every now and again but this was nothing to be concerned about. She was dreaming about herself and how she had wanted to have taken down all of the deer she had seen in the plains... every single one of them.

Faolán on the other hand, was not so fortunate because he could hardly keep his eyes shut for more than two minuets. He wriggled a lot and found it difficult to lie still for long. He wrestled against Zev's arm and eventually managed to free himself. Faolán sat up and looked at Zev, wondering how she could sleep at a time like this and why he hadn't been allowed to go on her journey with him. She'd muttered something about it 'not being safe' or something like that. Faolán shook his head and could think of nothing to do or say, because waking Zev abruptly was not a wise thing to do. He whined under his breath and simply sat there, stumped.

The fawn was a greater trouble than first expected to drag. The grass acted like a barrier which pushed towards him while Kaytar barged forwards. It was difficult at first but it soon became simply tiring. Its limp, bony form slid between his two front legs and occasionally caused his front paws to slip and turn in the wrong direction. His jaws were quite bloodstained but his white chest, which rubbed against the fawn's open throat, was redder.
Kaytar pondered hard as he watched the form of Riyora bound and pound over the terrain, remarkably quick. He strained over why on earth she'd tried to enlighten him on the "Diamond Mountain Pack" - as if the name would be of any significance to him! He was also slightly bemused as to why Zev would so readily accept new members into the pack. Was she allowing new blood into the group for a reason?
After a laborous series of minutes Kaytar had almost reached the edge of the forest by several meters. In his exhaustion he dropped the fawn's neck, which flopped like a fish on the ground for a moment before becoming very still. He stood and panted and watched the trees with a new fascination. Riyora should be in there, searching for her sister. He was interested, but not desperate, in meeting the two new she-wolves.
