
Yusuke Urameshi is a street-brawling delinquent with a tough guy approach to everything. Yusuke's mother Atsuko, an alcoholic, had him at the age of 15 and took a backseat in raising her son. He has a reserved seat in the guidance counselor's office, and numerous other delinquents in the city are trying to take him on. Yusuke is pretty fed up with life.
However, no one expects a sudden act of heroism on his part he dies trying to save a little boy from a speeding car. In fact, when he arrives in the afterlife, he is informed that the child would've miraculously survived, had it not been for him the child would have one less scratch on his right shoulder. Yusuke's premature death was unexpected and unnecessary, and the afterlife was not prepared for his arrival.
After numerous tests to gauge his worth, Yusuke is eventually revived, and is assigned to work for the Spirit World as a detective investigating demon cases in the human world. He comes into spiritual abilities of his own, and enlists the help of numerous friends from Reikai (spirit world), Makai (demon world, translated in the English as the Demon Plane) and Ningenkai (human world) to aid him in his cases as they fight off demons and humans seeking to rule over all three worlds.

20 years have passed since Yusuke and the others have restore true peace and balance to both the human and spiritual worlds and even the demon world joined in the peace. Having come to an age of peace Yusuke and the others went their separate ways and went on with their lives. Yusuke finished school and to no ones surprise he married Keiko all the while he kept his Spirit Detective business open. Eventually they had two fraternal twin sons , as they were growing up Yusuke wasn't shy about sharing the spirit world with them and even trained them in his techniques much to Keiko's displeasure and even allowed them to join his spirit detective team.
However when Yusuke told them about the dark tournament they wanted to join badly to test out their skills however their father forbid it. However as the day of their eighteenth birthday neared Yusuke disappeared as if he never existed, the family grew very worried and distraught because the time of his absence was becoming longer and longer. Then 1 month after Yusuke's disappearance due to an unexpected visit from Botan and her daughter she let the twins know that the Dark Tournament was nearing however the real problem was that demons were becoming more hostile and the spirit world feared they were plotting something sinister. So it feel on the two young men as spirit detectives to get to the bottom of what was going on but in order to do that they had to enter the Dark Tournament while their own personal reasons of finding their father also fueled them. Unbeknown to many something sinister indeed was brewing into in the Demon world shrouded by the veil of the Dark Tournament and if left unchecked it could very well destroy everything.
