We could all see it coming for over a millenia, but we chose to do nothing about it. The years of pollution and rotting mother Earth, but the final straw was the fourth world war.
Bombs didn't reign from the sky, no. Gunfire wasn't whizzing by daily, no. What did happen was that the countries took it much too personal and went too far. They began using chemical warfare and created new sickness to destroy life in large quantities. After an outrageous outbreak, humans began to mutate and adapt to the sickness. Five years into the war, Zombies began overrunning the streets and sending most of mankind into a panic.
The people who weren't panicking were the nations and countries who united to find a new place for mankind to live; a place away from the dying Earth, so they put their heads together and looked 'Beyond the Horizon'.

After years of underground planning and building most of the remaining humans were able to build spaceships and head to space where they would begin to terraform other planets and moons.
Now, in Earth year 2400, the result of this act of existentialism was a new life in space. The human race was kind of scarce and dropped majorly in population, but in this day and age the humans have been able to bring their populace up to speed.
These days, people have their own problems now; some old, some new. The common problems for the citizens is money since the government needs so much of it to build and explore. There are also problems with Space Pirates and Gangsters terrorizing and making deals. Meanwhile, the government is getting money any way it can and they even deal with the Pirates and Gangs. For this reason, the majority of organized crime doesn't stop and is conviently 'out of the hands of the local law enforcement'.
Since there is no justice in this universe right now, there are many people who try to rise up and justify this problem, but not one person has been able to do it successfully. So, who can save the universe from Space Pirates, Gangsters, the corrupt Government and their unyielding control over the entire military?
