Flames flickered while dying down, wood was left smoldering, clouds were darkened by smoke. The stench of burned flesh was everywhere. Everything... was destroyed. Two young creatures stood together, eyes wide and mirroring the dying flames, the liveliest thing left in their tribe. They looked to one another, expressions horrified, such a look shouldn't even been on the faces of ones so young. Tatsu, a brave and wise species that had just suffered a large loss. These two young tatsu dragonets were all that remain. Their kind had been at war with the turgurrak for decades. At last the turgurrak have won the war. Fortunately, they oversaw these two dragonets. They just survived something that would change their lives forever, and the two of them were left to rebuild their race.
Several, several years later. A lush, large forest, a secluded safehaven beyond the deserts, the lake, and surrounded by mountains. Rushing water fell from a tall waterfall into a large crystalline clear spring. Behind the falls is a small cave perfect for a creature's napping or playtime. Surrounding the body of cool water were short trees, smooth bark a light tan color. The trees lacked leaves, but bloomed countless beautiful flowers, called "kiyu flowers." Every night that the moon shines into the
forest spring, these lightly colored flowers reflect the moonlight. This is truly heaven in the eyes of the beholder. Everything so rich, so radiant, so alive. Almost everything, that is...
A pair of elder tatsu lay together with their eggs, old age getting the best of them. They had lived a long and hard life, but all things with a beginning must end. That's the story of these two tatsu, who sleep their way to afterlife together, their hearts stopping overnight. But they had left behind many children, all who spread out across the lands, forming their own small tribes, hopefully growing larger.
Their numbers were still small, but the elders left their lives behind with hopes that their kind would be fully restored. Their enemy, the turgurrak, is long since exstinct throughout these 200 years.
