Aivas's grand plan for Thread's End proved to be a failure, knocking the Red Star into a new orbit, yes, but only one that provided longer intervals between longer passes, not the true ending of the thread.

Dragon population had already decreased so greatly, for all were so certain the Thread were finally gone for ever.

When it returned, thirty turns beyond the length of a normal interval, the destruction was catastrophic, but the dwindling Weyrs protected all those they could. Perhaps, it may have been alright.

But then, only three turns later...Then, there came the Cataclysm. The Dawn Sisters, Yokohama, Bahrain, Buenos Aires, fell from their seemingly constant orbit, finally drawn from their millenia old position in the sky, to crash into the vast seas of Pern.

It was as if the planet was struck by three of the vastest meteors. The ships had been small in comparison to many space rocks, but unlike those minerals, they had been protected by heat tiling, and had not lost any mass in their crash.

First, the earthquake of their impact, and then, hours later, the first of the many waves. The unexpected strain on the hidden faultlines of Pern resulted in an amazing chain of events Eruptions, Earthquakes, Tsunamis. Coastlines were changed, age old mountain rages fell as new ones formed.

Finally, after weeks of living in constant fear, the survivors came out of their safe havens and searched eachother out. Many holds had collapsed into themselves, others had been drowned by the new seas.

Those left alive were a ranged group of ragtags from the few smaller holds that hadn't been wiped out, and the majority of Bitra, which escaped near to unscathed.

Not so for the Weyrs, though. All had been crushed. Including two clutches, one only days from hatching.

A new Weyr was carved from one of the new Mountain ranges, a project lead by Bronzerider D'van.

As the Weyr approached completion many months later, D'van was killed in threadfall, and Dovan Weyr was named after him.
