Welcome to Gaia! ::

Ok I have seen a few anti-anarchist threads so I figured I'd have a go at it. How ever even though I do think anarchy is a rather bad Idea I would like to give anarchists a chance to explain themselves.

Why anarchy? We had anarchy before before the concept of government was formed and I don't think that any cave man would tell you that it was really nice having to worry about everything from food, to protection not just from nature but each other this is why we have government in the first place. So whats so great about it now? What is so apealing about it?
Your example sucks. We don't know enough about cavemen (and which cavemen? Neandertals? Cro-Magnon? Homo Habilis?) to determine what type of societal system they lived under. For all you know, it could have been a tribal system with the strongest fighter, or the best hunter leading the tribe. Not exactly anarchy there.
it's freedom. Freedom is something that we all love. In america, we talk about how much we love freedom. The government or any higher authority usually threatens freedom through laws and regulation. I've heard of economists saying that government should be absent from society but that's too anarchist for me. That's because the country needs an army and a standing army is better than mercenaries. But even with government, don't we still worry about things being taken from us? Isn't that why we have locks on our doors, locks on our cars, software to protect our identity from being stolen?
Anarchy is ridiculous. The fact of the matter is that the common man is not suited to guide matters such as government on their own much less not to have one. The spells chaos.

An anarchy would never work because something as simple as a big guy bullying the rest would take over. Or pure chaos would take over...generally it's just young people that are interested in anarchy...apparently it's like a part of growing up for most people...

Anarchy doesn't work. Why? Because traditional government (as in tribes and the like) is still a form of government and has been around since cavemen. Anarchy can only exist in sparse and sporadic instances. Once there is anarchy, human nature dictates that it will become order once again, and a group of indivduals will govern the mass.

Human nature is a nonverifiable construct invented by Hobbes to help explain his theory of the social construct, nothing more. It has no place as an antecedent in any logical argument.
It is a pretty dumb concept. After all, we will never truly achieve "anarchy" without completely destroying ourselves. Humanity, contrary to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, in that, over time, humanity actually tends towards achieving lesser entropy (chaos). Now, I realize that I am stressing the meaning of the Second Law, but hopefully you understand my point.
I think it would be chaos with out government, I mean people would kill each other without any boundries.

Yes your probebly right but its about as close to anarchy as we will get seeing as humans are by nature socail creatures. A more modern example would be Somalia it currently has no real government just warring warlords fighting over control.
As an anarchist...

Wrong.

Freedom, equality, peace, mutual aid, etc. etc.

I could go on, but I'm planning on writing a post in ED-P on it soon.

In the meantime, I'd suggest anybody who even thinks of posting in this thread read the Infoshop FAQ and the Wikipedia entry first.

Which is why we will always have some form of government: hunter-gatherer tribes, clans, farming communities... the list goes on. So-called "anarchists" don't realize that democratic republics aren't the only kind of government.
Well, being as I am an anarchist to some extent, I suppose I can explain my thoughts on Anarchy.

To quote Alan Moore, anarchy is "Voluntary Order", that is, a system where people choose to work together and such with no large overall governing body. Unfortunately humanity is not sufficiently evolved enough in terms of the supression of certain drives, and the growth of certain others. Humanity will possibly be ready for Anarchy one day, but at present it's nothing but a distant goal.

That's so wrong it's not even funny.

Read the following, memorize it:

Anarchy does not equal chaos. Period.
