Time is of The Essence: Help against Hackers

Like some of you I, myself have been hacked. A flood of emotions swept over me as I tried to get into my account.. Panic, anger, sadness, fear, and hopelessness ran through me as I tried in vain to access my account.
Then, I went into this one and started a thread in Q& A to get advice and help as to what to do. It took me aproxamately 20 minutes to contact someone who could suspend my account from anymore items being taken.way too long.. So once i did all I could I resolved to try to help others as best i could with their hacking problems...so I started this thread.

WHAT TO DO!

So you wonder what do you do when this happens...

1. Get a moderator to freeze your account as soon as possible to restrict any more trading from it.Try a Darkgreen(Omnimoderators), Turquoise(Global GAIA Moderators), or Purple (Dedicated Moderaators) one if you can find them.

2 Fill out a Hacking report found at the bottom of the main forum page, or you can click here-->Report A Hacking

3. once contacted be paticent about it don't get angry or vengeful pming the hacker because it won't do anything but make you madder. The return of your account can take anywhere from 1 week to 6 months depending on how complicated the case is.

REMEMBER: the moderators have lives outside of Gaia and inside of Gaia they are quite busy as well. Just be as paticent as you can. We are aware that we need more mods it's just going to take some time to find more.

How to Prevent A Hacking

The best ways to prevent a hacking is to NOT under any circumstances give your password to anyone. That includes your friends. Moderators win NEVER as for your password so if someone does through a pm or otherwise, report them with the proper scamming form.

Report a Scamming

Also, make sure your password is secure. using letters and numbers caps and lowercase.

How to Be Safe Just In Case You Get Hacked

1. Periodically screen shot your entire inventory or catalog it in some way so that you can be certain what items you have and of how many.

2. If you have a mules link all your accounts as friends so you can see if anything on your profile has been changed.(just in case the member search is down) such as your clothes are missing and the birthdate, location, etc have been changed.

Sucess Stories

This area is dedicated to anyone who has been hacked but has gotten their avatar back. It would be great to hear your experience and any advice you can give. Also please tell us:

1.if you got your items back
2. how long did it take
3. who helped you with the process
4. any extra comments

3. Arwen was awsome and very helpful in getting it back
4.Thank you Arwen for helping me... and all who have been hacked there is still hope you just have to have paticence to give the mods time to work...^_^

This section is dedicated to extra coments, links, and charities that deal with hacking in general. If you would like to advertise your charity(must deal with people who have been hacked specifically) please pm me.

I am also taking donations to be given to gaian's who have been hacked.

Any Errors seen when reading these posts I apologise for in advance. I am not used to typing formally and if you see anything that really grates on you I will try to fix it ASAP. Just pm me and let me know what the problem is.^_^

Sugestions to Consider(mods and creators all those involved really)

1. make sure the forgotten password link works(it doesn't currently)
so even if they change your pass word you can answer the protection questions and get back into your account hopefully and change it before all your items are gone...

2. have to log in fail safe work
i'm not sure if this is going anymore but it needs to be... the failured to log in 3 times (or how ever many it is) with the account suspension for 10 minutes and letter/e~mail to account owner...

3. have a handy list of all mods(that are on) that handle hackings specifically(time is of the essance)
this is needed to get the account locked so no trades can go in or out...

4. have mods who work specifically on just hacking cases(again time is of the essance)
currently it can take up to a week to get a response... which means by that time your item that have been take could have been traded upmteenth times to just as many people... pretty much ensuring you won't get them back...

5. lock all accounts that are linked to the trading with the hacked account...
i'm not sure how this will be done or if it can but if there is a way that you can lock all accounts that are linked to the hacked account then maybe the items won't end up missing...
EX: hacked account -traded to account A-which is then traded to account b(hackers account)- which is then traded to account C(mule1).. and etc... all locked and under investigation for hacking...

for the unsuspectiong gaia who buys the stolen goods they could get a message saying that their account is under investigation for possible being sold stolen items...and not to worry the lock will be lifted when the item is returned... or something similar to that...

any who... just some suggestions... i know it is at users own risk and such and that there is no gurantee to get items back... but it would be nice for gaian's to have piece of mind that possibly their hard earned items will be returned to them...

Extra: i would like to thank all the dedicated mods who help in hacking cases every day...thank you for your time and effort...

gabe is my hubby.. it is his account but he doesn't use it... so i took it over when ,my accout was hacked it a flighted frenzy to get it back... i've been on this account since waiting for anyreply as to the status of my kitty account...
