As you may know, I am now the new guardian of Kanoa, formerly Kit's Fa'e. I just want it known that I am carrying on with Kit's plans for Kanoa for the most part. As he was her concept, I made sure to ask her all the questions I needed to make sure I kept Kanoa in her template. I hope I do a decent enough job of it. I'd like to thank Anya for giving me a chance, and Kit for letting me help out.
All the artwork for the Fa'e such as the cert and the actual character art is done by Anya and is not to be tampered with without her permission. All other artwork shall be credited and the same applies for those pictures as well. This "pet" is not and will not be for sale so do not ask.If you are interested in one of your own refer to the link to the headquarters located above.
Thank You

The mythology of the Menehune is as ancient as the history of Polynesia. When the first Polynesians arrived in Hawaii, they found dams, fish-ponds, and even Heiaus (temples), all presumably built by the Menehune who were already inhabiting the caves in the islands. Some even say that the great god Maui himself, was one of the tiny creatures...
But like a coin.. there was another side..
This side was Pe'ape'amakawalu. Eight-eyed-bat , a son of Kameha-meha-nui, performed great feats of valor. It was said that Kamehameha himself could not have overcome him in combat. His strength is shown by his famous deeds. At Kahahawai he uprooted a kou tree; at Napoko he pulled up the ti plant of Muleiʻula and Polipoli. He tore in pieces the banana-eating monster (mu 'ai mai'a) of La'auhaele. He rent the hairless one (olohe) of Pu'ukapele, and did other wonderful feats.

Quote:
Pe'ape'amakawalu, strong and steadfast ruler. His was a wrath only suffered by his enemies. His people were loyal and true to his side. The lands in his control prospered before his mighty hand and yet, none stood at his side to share it. Sufficient was Pe'ape'amakawalu that he did not long for the love of another, but his heart spoke to him many a night of what he lacked. The great eight eyed bat sought to solve his problem.
"Fly for two days an nights, great chief." His advisor said as he painted images of this vision in his magics, "Fly and you shall find the one you seek. Bring her here and all will be right."
So he did. Pe'ape'amakawalu flew for two days and two nights and as he looked below he saw Kumulama, the wife of Maui. Great was his joy that he swooped down before her.
"Beautiful maiden," he harkened, "Come with me, I can provide you with all you desire, more if you wish it. I only request you stand at my side."
Kumulama, who beyond her loving heart was human in everyway, her mind betrayed her heart but she did try to remain loyal, "I have a husband, fair bat. He provides for me and I am well."
"I have seen your husband," The bat said guiding her to the crest of a great hill looking down on Maui who filled his belly with fresh fish. "And he provides only for himself." he concluded smiling as he saw the anger in Kumulama's eyes. "Come with me, and I shall give you what he has not."
Mind made up, the maiden allowed the great bat to carry her high into the air and off to his home. Unfortunately, Maui saw this and grew upset. He chased after the pair, cursing the bat from the ground as they vanished into the sky deaf to his cries. Maui, the trickster, not to be out done, beseeched the help of his mother Hina.
"My wife, she was stolen away by the evil Pe'ape'a-maka-walu!" He sobbed.
She could not fathom such news, "You are swift! Could you not catch them at all??" Hina asked drying his tears.
"I chased after them but I cannot fly." He replied crestfallen. His mother thought to herself and set his mind at ease as best she can.
"Rest a while, I shall tell you what to do." It was well into the next day when returned to his mother, still full of grief and she said to him, "Go to the land of the Keahumoa; there you will see a large hut. Your grandfather Ku-olokele lives there. He will instruct you how to get your wife back."
Doing as he was told, Maui found the hut but noone was inside. His patience wanning, Maui climbed a hill and in the distance saw a man coming toward Waipahu with a load of sweet potato leaves. It was Kuolokele, as he walked, he came upon a stream and set his load down to bathe. Angry at such a display, Maui threw a great rock striking the man in the back and straighted the hump residing there.
Nonplused, the old man turned to see Maui and said to himself, "Oh, there you are." Returning to his load and picking it up, he met his grandchild and thereupon heard his tail of woe. The old man furrowed his great ivory haired brow and said to the boy, "Are you swift."
"Yes!" Maui said firmly.
"Catch me enough birds for feathers, ki leaves and 'ie'ie vine and fill that house over there with them." He instructed pointing at the structure. Maui was off instantly gathering all that he could. When he was done he returned to his grandfather.
"I have gathered all you require."
"Good, return home and in three days return."
On the first day, Kuolokele made the body and wings. The second day came withe the construction of the body and a testing flight. Upon the third day, food and water was loaded into the body of the contraption. Maui arrived just as instructed.
"Fly in this bird until you come to Moanaliha, the land of Pe'ape'amakawalu. When you reach it, look for the village. If the village is deserted, then look toward the sea and you'll see a great number of people gathered there, among whom will be Pe'ape'amakawalu, along with your wife. Fly near them, but not too close, just close enough to attract their notice; then fly far out to sea. On your return the people watching you will shout, 'The bird! The strange bird!' Pe'ape'amakawalu will say, 'Perhaps that's my bird; let's see if it flies to and rests on my sacred box."'
Maui nodded and climbed inside the bird pulling the strings fastened to the wings and the bird flew high into the air. For two days and nights he flew til he arrived at Moanaliha. Sure enough, it was deserted save for the seashore. He flew over them until they began to shout.
The great bat watched with interest at the bird and called to his people. "Perhaps it is my bird, if so, it'll land on my sacred box."
As if on cue, Maui landed upon the sacred box and the people erupted into cheers. Afterward they all returned to the village. Pe'ape'amakawalu told his servants to bring the bird into the sleeping house and give it poi and fish. Food was indeed brought before the bird and Maui reached out to take the food into the fake bird's bill. After a while, he became full and stopped accepting food and the people returned to their own homes to eat.
As night fell, Pe'ape'amakawalu and Kumulama lay down to sleep. In the short time she had fallen in love with the great cheif and was happy at his side. This enraged Maui and he wished for the bat's death but he waited. Unfortunately he had to wait for all eight of the cheif-bat's eyes to close. Slowly, each eye began to close as he started to fall asleep. The day was slowly approaching and Maui prayed to his mother to hold back the night and she did so.
Finally, when Pe'ape'amakawalu closed all eight eyes, Maui crept from the bird and cut off his head, placing it into a sachel. Maui took his wife and flew away through a hole he broke in the thatching. Kumulama cried the entire way home, Maui thought they were tears of relief but they were tears of sadness for the loss of her love and the cruelty of her former husband.
When they arrived back to Kuolokele, he greeted them warmly,"Come! the feast is ready the poi, the fist, the pig and the 'awa. Where is your wife and your bundle?"
"Here inside." Maui cheered triumphantly.
"Then let your wife out first." And as she stepped out, Kuolokele saw the sadness in her eyes and knew what had transpired to be wrong. He sought to return Kumulama's true love to her. When Maui brought out the head, the eyeballs were plucked by his grandfather and placed in the 'awa cup and the rest of the 'awa was prepared. When the cup was filled, he gave it to Maui, who drained it. His fate sealed forever more.

Not far back into the past.. Just a glimps of the begining of Kanoa's new story. (to paste the whole thing would be ludicrious and massive. x_x wink

Kanoa's First Prom

A little bit of foreboding..maybe maybe not.
Kami blinked as she stared from Kit to Kanoa, her muzzle drawning back in anger. There sat Kanoa in his bedding, face and hands dirty, the fur of his ears and wings sticky and frayed with neglect.
"You realize that child is absolutely filthy..right?" Kami growled to Kit who remained engrossed in the flickering game on her computer. Kanoa threw his arms up at Kami, finally! Someone that would feed him! Her heart went out to the child but she was waiting to see if the mother would take control. All she got was a vague nod and a click of a mouse.
Fed up, Kami stated rather firmly as she crossed the room to rescue the child from it's own filth. "Ahm going to take Kanoa back with me for a few days. Okay?" This got a better response, better in what terms is unknown.
"Oh could you?? I'm a little busy at the moment, I've almost got my nightsabre!" Kit purred sweetly making Kami's hackles rise. "You can take him for a while if you like, he seems to like you." She added driving one last nail into the coffin.
"Yeah.. Ah'll do that." Kami replied just as sweetly fully intent on not returning at all.
J/k ;B hahaha.
Kami wanted to be mad. She really wanted to but she couldnt be, not for the sake of the child hanging across from her on his birdcage perch. A pale imitation of a note squeezed tightly in her palm as she stared around the house with growing discomfort. The walls, the ceiling the floor it was all dirty to her. Crawling with fithy lies all thanks to the four words, ' I'm not coming back.' Kami tried to keep her ties with those outside her world at best a great length, but betrayal hurt none the less. She frowned to Kanoa who rested in cherubim like silence, a bottle tucked firmly under his arm. It wasn't the first time she was left shouldering the job of caring for other's children. She refused to be upset with him. It wasn't his fault, he was too young to even realize she may not be back at all.
Kami gave the note one last squeeze before tossing it forcefully to the carpet and set about an immediate leaving of the house. Gathering what she remembered of her own items and all of Kanoa's, Kami packed them together and took the stirring child from his perch. He mewled and tried to coil up in the leathery skin of his wings and remain asleep as she carried him from the house. Not bothering to shut off the lights, not bothering to shut the door behind her. She just left and took the child with her back toward the station.
"Ahm sorry lil one. Ah hate that you seem to be dealt such a shitty hand in life, but I'll try to make it better for ye." She cooed to the baby as she walked. Had she not been so blinded by anger, she may of noticed the note she crushed in her hand so hatefully wasn't even in Kit's writing...

Name: Kanoa (young child)
Gender: Male
Eye color: Dark Brown
Hair color: Black
Fur color: Dark cocoa fur on the outsides of his ears and on his wings. Deeply tanned skin otherwise
Rebirth: 30-01-05
Height: 2'3''
Weight: 21lbs
Personality: *past toddler personality*Kanoa, like most kids his age, are curious and try to get into everything they possibly can. He enjoys grabbing onto whatever his hands touch first and not let go of it until something else catches his attention or he falls asleep. He seems to have a love of bright colors gravitating toward them if they're just flashy enough. Still learning to use his wings, he will atempt daredevil leaps off the changing table, from his perch, anywhere high off the ground if you let him. For the most part, he is a well behaved child with a few nitches here and there but nothing too major.
*old toddler personality* He is still curious and gets into trouble when he knows he can get away with it. Highly impressionable, he does try to imitate things he sees on television if it catches his fancy. He generally behaves for the most part, asside from accidently repeating cursewords he hears Kami or Kitty say. Still a touch spoiled he just has a round about way of getting what he wants through acting falsely innocent or doing good deeds that he knows will get him what he wants.
*Current young child personality* A little older, a little wiser, Kanoa's become sharp as a tack. His skills of manipulation are only doubled by his boyish nature to get into trouble. Prone to tiny bouts of missbehavior, he is usually goaded into action by his friend, Ryan. His love of bright colors is back in full swing again and he often wears anything loud he can get away with.

Name: Kercaden "Kami"
Gender: Polymorphic (currently female)
Eye color: Pale Yellow
Hair color: Mahogany
Fur color: Basic cheetah coloration, tawny yellow on cream but lacks spots, retained the tail stripes and tear marks
Age: ???
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 145 lb
Species: Chetorian hybrid(Chetorian-lion/winter wolf)
Personality: Due to her upbringing, Kami for the most part is polite when first meeting people. As she loosens up around them, she will become more easy going and at times unforgivingly touchy feely. Like any animal, she can be tempermental and should be handled with care as she will respond with her more feral nature. She has a mildly short temper however and is highly impulsive.

The small apartment that Kami is renting in Isle de Gambino. She will probably move to Durem when Kanoa gets older. For now It's cozy enough for them both, and who doesn't love waking up to the smell of fresh roasted coffee from the cafe downstairs?

Friends and Aquaintences
Other fa'e that Kanoa has met or come in contact with.

The first fa'e that Kanoa met. He enjoyed hanging from the end of his tail like a decoration, but lost contact with each other temporarily. They met again this time to better their friendship and to exchange gifts.
They met again at a beach party and though they didn't remember each other, the reunion was a favorable one.
domokun ------------------------ heart -------- 3nodding

The second fa'e Kanoa had any extended contact with. According to Kanoa, Lucian is 'Kitty'.
domokun ------------------------- heart ------- 3nodding

Kanoa met him at the prom and promptly turned him into a jungle gym. Unbeknownst to Kanoa, Yani is blind so his initial reaction wasn't too fond of him. That was until he got him off the ground. Then he was all aces.
domokun ---------------------------- heart ---- 3nodding
[Image Pending]
Ryan was just the random boy next door that happened to be cutting across the yard when Kanoa was testing his powers. Now they are bosom buddies and often engadge in lots of mischief.
domokun ---------------------------------- heart 3nodding

Met at an impromptu beach party he happened upon. Kanoa isn't sure what to think of the half snake woman, but he is facinated by her and her hair snakes.
domokun ------------------------ heart ---------- 3nodding

Also met at the beach party, Kanoa didn't get a good chance to intoduce himself to her, but she's also facinating to him. Maybe one day he'll ask about all those wings.
domokun ---------------------- heart ------------ 3nodding

Another woman met at the beach party. Brightly colored and people seem to admire her rack..whatever that was.. Thinks she's really nice seeming though.
domokun ------------------------- heart --------- 3nodding

Ahh Aadil. He picked up a few...choice greetings from him. Is both inspired and amazed that there is someone that could curse Ryan under the table along with the sailors and harpies hiding there.
domokun ----------------------------- heart ----- 3nodding

Sati was the first to be victim of Kanoa's atempt to be ...social under Aadil's teachings. She took it in fairly good stride and he seems to be happy for that. YAY NO HIT!

Personal Tresures
A gift in trade from Arkie for the lil crane game war veteran toy he gave to him. The ears have become a popular teething object for him and he's just big enough to use as a pillow if need be.
Not really sure if you'd consider this a treasure really. A broken discounted hula girl model. Most of her grass skirt is missing and found it's way around Kanoa's wrists it seems somehow..
A small bauble with a K in the middle of it. Brought to the prom along with gifts for the other fa'e as well. (;_; I don't remember who gave this, please pm me so I can add your name.)
Companions

'Kitty' as he was named by Kanoa. Foul mouthed, greedy and smartalic-y, Kitty got himself into the mess by trying to mooch some free room board and booze. Now he's stuck as a part time watch dog for Kanoa. If he has any special traits remains to be seen.

TODDLER QUEST
Hurray, you have made it to the secodn page XD GOOD JOB! So for the toddler quest I think Kanoa needs to have a play date in this diary with another fa'e child, hopefully about his own age, but that's not required. Also, 10 things from Hawaii would be a nice addition to his already lovely collection. Those 10 things can be anything - plushies of animals, hibiscus flowers, a surfboard - you get the idea. GOOD LUCK!

Gifts donated to the cause heart

A palm leaf donated by Karma K. A lovely gift and so huge. x_@; Wonder how she managed to get it.

A lei of flowers donated kindly by Kimi. It'll look lovely on Kanoa when he's big enough to not be smothered in it.
A lovely carving of a hibiscus flower. There seems to be a little bauble in the center of it. It shall remain safe from tiny prying fingers until he's old enough to take care of it on his own.
Thank you all so much!
Gifts found on my own

A small plush from ABC stores, its a small little island chain store that sells great little novelty things. Or so I didn't know before Kit told me. I was just like 'hey a cat in a hula skirt, that's cute.'

A tiki carving me and Kit got for Kanoa at a Luau in a place called Kihei. The man was awesome at what he did, even carved Kanoa's name in the back. Very cool.

Saw some folks surfing the other day and thought it to be rather nifty indeed so I picked up this board for Kanoa. I don't know if he'll be able to use it but hey, Fire Bat. Awesome, right?

Speaking of fire, the lil pyro loves it so I got him some poi too. If he can't use them least they'll make a good conversation piece.

I thought it was cool they made tiny guitars for lil people..til I found out they weren't made for short people, they're just ukeleles. Oh well.

It's a pineapple and it's an octopus! What more could you want?

The Bonding
It was going on day three now since Kami decided to leave Gaia with Kanoa but some nagging thought in the back of her mind kept holding her from it. Instead she rented a small room for what she assured the lease owner would be 'temporary', but as the days progressed, it was becoming more and more comfortable. In any case, she couldn't just leave. There was still alot she didn't know about Kanoa or his kind. She'd head toward the headquarters later and try to speak with someone again, her last two atemps thwarted by random means. For now, they were partaking in the quant little cafe just below their flat.
"Uhtdoh!" Kanoa chimed as the stack of roleplay dice he was playing with fell over.
He clapped gleefully as the multicolored blocks skittered across the tabletop. As he clambered about to gather them up, he picked up a clear diamond shaped die and glanced at the glass of water sitting before his newfound guardian and toddled over. The concept was simple, It looked like the other clear boxes in her cup so that's where it should be. Standing on his toes, he hefted the die over the lip of the cup and watched as it sank in among the cubes of ice looking rather natural. As natural as an icecube with numbers COULD look anyway.
He seemed to take this in proudly as Kami reached down retrieving the glass from the table, not taking a moment to look up from her paper and rose the glass taking a hearty drink. At first she didn't react at all, then suddenly she chuffed a mouthful of water back into the glass. Trying to set the glass down before she began to hack and choke. With a disgusting hack, the die plopped from her mouth and bounced delightfully on the cobble stones of the patio. Kanoa giggled and squealed with joy as he watched from is table side seat, gasping as he watched his die roll away.
"Uhtdoh!! Uhtdoh!!" He cried pointing after it in worry. She rose from her chair and fetched the die, returing to the table to gather the others in a small gunny sack. Kanoa giggled and tried to grab at her fingers making a game of it.
"OOoh y' lil tricky thing, trying t' kill me are y'?" She chuckled, a bit of water still caught in her though as she coughed. "Or is that your way of tellin' me to get a move on, eh?" She cooed holding out her hands to him. The tiny boy hunkered down and gave a hearty leap into her waiting palms, his wings carrying him a bit steadier this time around. "Good boy! Okay then, carpe diem and all that." She cooed leaving the pay for her meal and gathering her gear heading into town.
***********************************
Pushing open the wooden door of the Headquarters, Kami's large ears pitched forward as she peeked inside. Kanoa tried to imitate her peeking over the edge of her finger tips as far as he could into the building. The rather cheerful layout of the place looking that much more alien to her now that she got to get a decent look at it.
"Hellooo...?" She called into the barren room.
"Hedoooo...ooo..!" Kanoa chirped in chorus making her giggle softly.
"Yes, hello." She chuckled down at him as she stepped inside fully. She was never fond of still places the mixing of scents in the room throwing off her sense of smell also making her slightly on guard.
"Yehedo!" He tried to repeat back to her, happy enough with it to yell it out as merily as he pleased. "Yeeeeeehhhedooooooo~~~~!!!" She winced as his tiny but shrill voice reverberated into her sensitive ears. If that didn't get anyone's attention, Kami wasn't sure what would.
For a moment, there was nothing.
Then, suddenly, a small, agitated-looking... fairy?... appeared in front of them, pressing one finger to her lips urgently. "Shhhhhhh, oh, shhhh, the Lady is sleeping. Noisy things!" the fairy tittered, kicking her feet back and forth in mid-air.
The almost pregnant silence that followed the joyous roar almost bathed the building in an uncomfortable air that was before,
"Shhhhhhh, oh, shhhh, the Lady is sleeping. Noisy things!"
Had she not said anything, Kami would have coined it up to a moth disturbed by the child's voice. Kanoa squealed delightfully at the display of colors and movement before him as the fairy appeared chastizing them both for their loudness. Reaching for her as best he could, wings flapping awkwardly. Her ownfluttering wings brought to mind one familiar thing in his memory and he jerked a finger at her. "Burd! Burdburd!!"
Kami cupped a hand to hover over his head hissing softly through pursed lips. "Be calm, darling. She's not a bird." She cast curious eyes on the agitated creature leaning in as far as she'd allow to sniff at the air before it. "Though.. Ah can't say Ah've seen a pixie for quite some time. We didn't mean to disturb your lady." Standing back upright, Kanoa having hopped to grab her hand, gnawing bitterly upon the webbing between her finger and thumb spitting out a mouthful of fur.
The fairy deftly dodged Kanoa's fingers and shook her finger at him scoldingly, then turned to Kami. "He is unconnected, yes, we see, we see, you want to see the Lady and fix him, hmm?" She cocked her head at Kami, then flitted to the door that led away from the common areas of HQ. "For her children's sake, she will see you, come, come, come. QUIET," she added, giving Kanoa a frown.
Unconnected? This phrase brought even more questions than answers as the broken reply cut off all her attempts to speak. She had to breathe a puff of air into her bangs to bite her tongue and follow behind the fairy toward the door. She was unaware that there may be something wrong with Kanoa that required fixing, Maybe she shouldn't have taken him from Kit's house, she was still unsure of these people's ways, and swallowed the lump of immenent dread forming in her throat.
Kanoa was the very picture of innocence, staring up at the fairy in rare silence. This was short lived, at least for innocence sake as he began to scuffle about in Kami's hand again climbing up her arm and across her chest to get under her chin. He jutted his chin out in an indignant pout from his little hovel in her shirt collar.
The fairy stopped in front of a door, and nodded. "Lady, lady, lady, the little flibbertygibbet is here!" Then she vanished, motes of light drifting around Kami and Kanoa.
"Come in," said a soft voice from within the darkened room.
"Sorry we disturbed your nap." Kami stated trying to seek out the origin of the voice before moving any further. Her search was fruitless however and she found that she was forced to enter the room anyway.
Kami peered into the darkness, stepping gingerly into the frame of the door as she let her eyes adjust. Kanoa shifting in hier perch at her throat, doeish eyes finding the darkness to be quite comfortable from the cheerfully brightness outside.
The room was dark, with curtains drawn tightly over the open windows. Occasionally, light would peek in as the curtains were stirred by a faint breeze, only to fall back again and dip the room back into shadow. There were only a few pieces of furniture, but in the far back of the room furthest from the door was a divan couch with a pale figure laying on it. Whenever a ray of light happened to fall upon her, it became obvious that she was fading, her skin pale and translucent, with the fabric of the divan flickeringly visible underneath.
"A young one, so young... you are so young for this," the figure whispered, holding out one hand towards Kanoa. "So young to have your bond severed. It is good to come so soon. Perhaps he will not even remember this trembling time. The fading is barely there," she said, opening her eyes. They were bright blue, surprisingly so.
Stepping closer to the figure, the multitude of questions seemed to rattle off in her mind but she didn't say a word. All that she could muster was a half choked grunt as she felt the weight lift off her chest. Kanoa, as he was known to do, sprung from his nest for the open hand of the figure. His little wings letting him glide most of the way in his awkward desent to her palm.
The fur along the back of Kami's neck rose in apprehension as she watched Kanoa seemingly just miss her hand and thump softly to the floor just before her. Something in those eyes made her take a step back instinctively. The toddler didn't seem phased at all from the bumpy ride and sat up waiting patiently to be retrieved by the stranger.
"I..didn't mean any harm..." the girl said finally, her own voice now sounding quite alien in her own ears.
"I do not blame you," the figure said, shifting slightly, so that the blanket that covered her legs slipped a bit to rest near Kanoa. "Come, little one - I cannot come down to see you, so you must climb to see me..." Her gaze shifted back to Kami. "I am Airi," she said, softly. "I am never sought without a reason, and yours is clear to me. The little one, where is his proper Guardian?"
Ears canted outward, the girl gave Airi a look of confusion, for it was the first time she was refered to directly by this nearly ghostly figure.
Seeming to understand what was requested of him, Kanoa obediently brought himself to his feet and stepped into the cloth. Tiny claws catching hold in the fabric as he made the steady spider-like ascent up to where the figure lay. His large round ears wobbling high over the crown of black hair as he tried to study her features, a hiccup of sonar giving very little information as most of the sound wafted through her.
Kami thought to give her own name, her mouth falling open a milimeter then drawing shut tightly as the question was asked. She felt her cheeks burn lightly as pale glowing eyes cast down at the floor, "She's not coming back." she stated, looking back to Airi to further explain. "Ah don' know where she is, but she left a note."
"Ah..." Airi held out one hand towards Kanoa, much easier now that he was at her level. "So young for such things. And you are?" Her sharp blue eyes focused on Kami's with sudden intensity. "How are you connected to this little child?"
She felt rooted in place by those eyes, a dry lump rising in her throat as she formulated her answer having to lower her eyes to keep her wits about her. It wasn't often that she felt intimidated and her instincts were battling with her wits. Her tail curling under her legs as her ears folded back against her skull.
"Ah..was called upon by Kit to help babysit as she worked during th' day." There wasn't much else she could say, or rather could say without her voice rattling as it came from her. Ignoring her want to take the child and make a run for it.
All of this was lost on Kanoa however, the small boy giggling contently as he hoisted himself into her hand, grinning as he lie belly flat against her palm. This stranger's hand was much different from the hands of people he'd sat in before. It seemed to give a little more, more like a pillow and it was soft! He mouthed absently at her exploring more.
"N'sof.." He cooed petting at her hand with tiny fingers. Smiling up at Kami. "Sof sof!"
Kami's gaze drifted from the floor and again were caught in the blue ones staring at her so fiercely. She didn't see it before but it was a look she knew well. While still rather unsettled, she felt her tension ease. This was a look of one mother to another, whether or not she was the child's true mother was unknown to the Chetorian, but their maternal concern for the young fa'e was mutually felt.
"So you are caring for the child... but then the Guardian left?" Airi raised one eyebrow, waiting for confirmation that this was right. Then she glanced down and smiled faintly at Kanoa. "You are strong yet. No, I do not think you will remember what it is to fade, if you even feel it, little one."
"Trust me, Ah don't understand it either." Kami shruged lifting her hands defensively. "She called me to visit but didn't tell me why until Ah got there, then asked if Ah could babysit for her as she went to work. This went on for at least two months Ah'd say." She paused to sit down cross legged on the floor, "Then, three days ago, Ah put th' lil guy down for a nap an' wake up with this note laying next t' me."
Kanoa replied to the compliment with a broad smile. His ears flopping happily atop his head as he sat himself upright.
There was that fading term again, Kami cocked her head curiously, "Ah.. Ah'm sorry, but what do you mean t' fade? Is it a natural thing for..Fa'e to do?"
"The Guardian bond... it holds a Fa'e to this world. Without it, the Fa'e will..." Airi held up her free hand and peered at Kami through it. "This is what it means, to fade... to forget yourself, and eventually lose yourself completely in the sunlight and the air. It is more than death for us... and it is beginning to happen to this child, though you cannot see it yet. He needs a bond to anchor him, as do we all."
She lowered her hand, but not before lightly touching Kanoa's tiny head. "You seem to have served him well. He knows you."
This was alot to digest at one time. The fact that she could have endangered him more by leaving making her stomach turn.
"Oh.. wish Ah hadn't asked.. glad Ah did though." She said softly shuddering at the cold chill that prickled at her spine, "Eh.. the lil guy's growin' on me that's f' sure." The Chetorian gave a vague smile, seeming to puff up pridefully at this fact.
Kanoa peered up at the hand on his head, blinking as he stared up at the barely visible ceiling overhead through it. This lady was even more awesome! She was like that dice he had earlier but easier to see through. Much more pleasent and alive.
Airi smiled at Kami, knowingly. "Will you anchor him then, with the Guardian bond? You seem to be his Guardian now, in all but name..." She frowned slightly, not liking the idea of another Fa'e left behind. At least this one would not come close to meeting what she feared was her own fate. She patted Kanoa absently, her touch feather-light on his head.
"For the sake of this child, Ah will." She said affirmatively, looking from Airi to Kanoa who warbled and giggled happily at the patting. "'m just glad Ah came seeking help when Ah did...so many things to learn.." She ran a claw tip through the thin fur of her brow.
Airi smiled again and reached out her free hand to Kami. "I will bind the two of you together, then. Tend for him well, he is young yet." She waited, expectantly, for Kami to place a hand in her own.
Leaning forward on her knees, Kami reached out placing her hand in Airi's lightly, fearing the chance of possibly phazing right through the woman's palm. That wouldn't be the best of impressions, she figured. Kanoa, calmed his giggly babbling to look between the two in confusion.
"Habbu...?"
Airi tightened her hand around Kami's, and folded the other lightly around Kanoa - not enough to hurt him, but enough to hold him in place. Her eyes slid closed.
A moment later, there was a sudden tightening within both Fa'e and newfound Guardian as the link was established. Airi's hand slipped limply off of Kami's then, and her grip on Kanoa relaxed instantly. "Keep him safe, so he will grow strong," she said, laying back on the couch, weakly.
Heart thumping loudly in her chest, as Airi tightened her grip on them both. Kanoa not really figiting too terribly much but did wriggle enough to latch his tiny jaws against the side of a finger, nothing hard at all. His attention wrapt up in the soft lady's finger.
Something behind Kami's eye made her vision a momentary flicker of stars as she rubbed at her eyes with a free hand to clear them. Feeling the hand slip away she jerked to capture it again resting it gently on the couch at Airi's side. She nodded at the instructions a fairly worried look on her face as she held out a hand to Kanoa.
"You have my word."
As the finger was gently pried from his grip at her relaxing, Kanoa blinked at the fingers again, feeling that this was some sort of game as he squealed and made a grand leap into Kami's arm scuttling up her arm as if Airi might give chase. He was fairly disappointed that she didn't however and sighed.
"Buuu.."
"Keep him safe," she repeated, closing her eyes and seeming to shrink into the couch.
Immediately, the fairy from before was back, spreading her wings in Kami's face. "She is tired!" the fairy said, shrilly. "Please!"
Attention drawn to the little fairy again, Kami took one last look at tired Fa'e and rose to her feet and walked from the room. Kanoa wriggled his way onto her shoulder looking rather forlorn at them leaving the nice lady behind, his tiny hand waving at her as they continued out and left the Headquarters.

Newly titled guardian and fa'e walked home just as it was turning dusk, the light of the setting sun washed the cobble stone streets of the Gambino port in a red and orange hues. The tiny bat boy dangling over her shoulder as he tugged at a loose fabric on the collar of her shirt but he eventually grew tired of this and set about fiddling with his hair twirled the locks of black hair about in his pudgy fingers.
As they passed the window marking the hat shop, Kami managed to catch a glimpse at her reflection and gave a sight. She looked like hell for what little happened that day while he looked none the worse for wear. Once they were out of the headquarters, the full weight of the ordeal hit her like a ton of bricks and from there all the way to the port, the whole event wouldn't stop analyzing itself in her mind.
If Kanoa -was- fading there was no telling just how long before he would have vanished, and her without a clue in the world. This made her chew on her lip in thought, what she wouldn't give for a smoke right about now. It'd been days since she had one and her nerves were shot to s**t. She removed her glasses to scrub at the bridge of her muzzle with the butt of her palm to clear her thoughts. "Y' getting too old for this.." She grumbled aloud to herself. Absently reaching up to pluck the child off her shoulder as she felt him sliding toward her shoulder blade.
There in her palms lay the very model of innocence. She couldn't help but return the crooked little grin beaming up at her as the toddler reclined against her finger tips. Kanoa looked to her expectantly before grinding the back of his fist against an itch on his nose. He gave her a sigh and smirk as if to question what now.
"Yano.. am hongee." He said affirmatively with nod, lips poked out in thought. She blinked down at him totally thrown by the statement. For as little as he was, the child had a mind like a steel trap. Back when he seemingly grew over night from an infant toddler she had time since then to become used to this abstract form of growth, though everny now and again he'd come out of left field and knock her for a loop.
"Heh.. Ah hear ya, kiddo." She chuckled and walked them both inside the small cafe below their apartment for dinner.

Dear Diary,
How are things with you? I mean being a book an all. Doesn't look like you have alot to do. Sit. Collect dust. Get your pages bent. Is that fun for a book?
Anyway, you'll be glad to know that Kanoa has managed to make his first flight this morning. When I was done pissing myself with fear I was proud of the little rugrat. The people at the cafe below were proud too. Not so much when he wingged that poor old lady in the back of the head. Don't believe what they say about walkers, Diary. I don't think I'm going to get that image outta my head.
More anyway, Seems Kanoa's been having problems sleeping lately. When I put him down for the evening, he seems to wake up in a screaming fit not short of an hour later. Frankly, he's been doing this since we left that other place. I don't know if he's homesick or not but he doesn't seem bothered by the flat otherwise. I'm not sure if I should take him back there maybe I should I don't want to though. It's a good thing I'm a night person, I don't mind sitting up with the poor dear keeping him calm. He's learning his colors and shapes smashingly, but he needs rest. I am thinking about taking him to the healers in Chetoria and see if they can help out. I'm sure Pictaur is worried anyway.
Last anyway, I'll keep you updated on how this goes. Right now I just heard what I think was my new flower pot being knocked off the bookshelf...

Dear Diary,
Ah, still in the same place I left you. Such a loyal book you are! So, the trip to the healers went over well enough. Kanoa seemed to be healthy enough, went as I'd expected to be honest. Seems alot of children his age have periods of bad dreams for a short while. It's just them getting used to the new surroundings. Now it's just a waiting game I suppose. I did however think more on the old house. Funny that it'd be on my mind still after what happened, usually I don't bother with such things.

Kanoa was having fun practicing this new form of mobility as he fluttered lazily like a moth. Since his initial flight, his guardian had made sure to close all the windows and some of the doors spoiling most of his fun. That was fine with him once he realized that she allowed him free reign of the livingroom. In fact, she had set up little perches all over for him to practice on, not high from the floor mind you, but they did their job.
As he explored, his quest took him higher and higher until he found himself dangling from the curtain rod rather pleased with himself. His wings still getting accustomed to being put to actual use as he dropped into the fabric of the curtains. Clinging tenatiously with fingers and toes, he looked about for another place to play. Spying the couch, he leapt with all his might, tongue poking from his tightly pursed lips in determination as he flapped his leathery wings.
Biting off a little more than he could chew, he found himself heading downward sharply. Eyes round like dinner plates , the child didn't think to scream just pump his arms in an atempt to slow his fall. ...up and down to move the wings...! The command came to him so clearly he blinked flapping his wings anew. The floor approached slower and slower, his eyes squinting as he touched down on the carpet balanced on unsteady feet.
Easily distracted, he squealed happily and scuttled under the couch. Hey! Here was his missing carrot stick! Hmm.. it wasn't as orange as it was when he saw it last. Hunching over his prize under the tight space of the couch's underbelly, he ran a hand over it's grimy surface contently. A twitch of his lip made him wipe the hand off on his chest.
Ahwell, it was a carrot and they're always good.
He bit down heartily.
Cept this time. Spitting out a mouthful of dust, carpet lint and who knew what else, Kanoa scrambled from under the couch. Glowering at the carrot, he tried to grab at the strands of the carpet to throw in anger. Unsuccessful, he crossed his arms to put on a propper pout.
"MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!"
The scrambling from the other room might of been worth it as Kami stumbled into the livingroom searching for him in panic.
"Hi hi!" He cheered from the floor.
"THERE you are..Whatta y' getting into now, eh??" She sighed with relief lifting him into her arms flattening her ear to her skull as he left dusty hand prints all over her shirt.
"Couch!" He grinned up at her winningly.
"Bath." She said lifting him to eye level.
"But..Noooo~" He whined perking up at an idea, "Story time!"
"Okay, story time.." She agreed.
"Yay!"
"AFTER your bath."
"Booooo..."

taptaptap.
Kami's squinted as they went to the clock. It was almost 10 o'clock, who could be coming by at this hour? Kanoa peeked up from his spot on the changing table chewing absently on his teddybear.
Taptaptaptap.
There it was again, but this time it was more insistant. Kami set Kanoa down on the bed and began the task of finding the source of the noise.
Kanoa didn't remain in his spot for very long waiting just long enough for Kami to turn her back to dive bodily from the bed fluttering to the carpet with the grace of a drunken goose. The tapping had grown into banging when she decided to retrieve her bat from the closet and checked the door to find noone at it, nothing in the closet or bathroom.
"Kitty!" She heard over her shoulder and looked up to see Kanoa banging on the window at something on the other side. It looked like a squirrel with little leaves for wings and a large angry crab attached to it's ear.
Kami stepped over lifting Kanoa to her shoulder, "What in the wo--"
"OPEN TH' FREAKIN' WINDOW,LADY AND GET THIS DAMNED THING OFFA ME!!!" The creature yelled sharply.
Kami started to turn away from the window, brow furrowed in annoyance. It grit it's teeth, shutting it's eyes tightly, "Would you.. PLEASE.. open th' freakin' window andgetthisdamnedthingoffame!!!...ma'am?!" it corrected.
"Kitty~!" Kanoa giggled reaching his hands out at the creature bouncing on Kami's shoulder.
"Nono sweety, it looks like it might have fleas." She hissed over her shoulder kissing the bat boy on his head. The animal drug it's paws down it's face.
"Aw c'mon, lady! Hava heart! I'm dyin' out here!!" She shrugged and Kanoa began to whine still pointing at the "kitty" not sure why it wasn't on this side of the window in his hands.
"NNngghh alright! But Ah'm warning ye.. If you so much as try ANYTHING Ah'll smash y' flat!" She growled undoing the latch and drawing the window open. It was barely open wide enough before the small animal zipped it's way inside, crab in tow. She snatched him from the air before he was able to slide past her.
She grabbed winged animal in one hand, crab in the other. "As soon as this is off, out y' go."
Still trying to flap madly in her hand it yelped sharply, "Anything! Just get it the he--" He yelped again as the crab was yanked firmly. "Please, get it off!" Kanoa giggled all the more at their antics.
Walking into the kitchen, Kami set the animal down on one side of the sink and Kanoa down on the other. She pointed to both of them on each word stating firmly, "Stay. Put." She turned on the water so it could heat up, leaving to get Kanoa's bath soap from the cabinet in the hallway. The creature crossed it's arms, chewing nervously on it's paw as it tried to do as told it's beady black eyes scanning the room as the pain in it's ear throbbed. It was a cozy place, would make a good crash pad it thought to itself.
It looked to Kanoa and nodded, "H-hey, Kid. What..what's ye name, eh?"
Kanoa blinked at the animal and grinned pointed to him, "Kitty!"
"...Y-yeh, dat's great..So uh, that ya mom?" It winched as the crab gave it's ear a tug trying to crawl away.
Kanoa nodded. Oh good, he knew SOME english at least. Kami returned shortly and set her hand under the running water, content with it's temperature, she grabbed the creature again and held it's ear under the water.
"AUGH geez, lady!! What's wrong wit ya?!...huh?" It spat blinking as the crab let go straight away and fell into the sink trying to scuttle to safey. A sheepish grin spread on it's face as she set it down, "You know.. yous have th' most beaut'ful eyes...?" When she didn't say anything it pressed further fluttering up in lazy zigzags. "S'why's yer kid so tiny, anyway? He premature?"
The look he got would have fried a hole in his head if possible, "No, and that's none of your business anyway. What are y' doing flying around with a crab on your ear, lookin' for something to match th' flower?" She soaked the wash cloth cleaning Kanoa nodding at the big blue flower atop it's head.
"Well if yous must know, I was on my way to my destination like a good Tiki when some punks dumped me in a barrel of crabs!" He huffed crossing his little arms, then in the same breath, " Y' got any booze in this joint?"
"No. We don't. Shouldn't you be going?" She snarled leaning closer to him.
"An' leave such wondaful company?? Never crossed my mind, toots." He barely managed to get in the air before her hand slapped down on the counter firmly.
"But the weather is nice and the crab is gone so.. ahaha heheh.. S-see yas!" It yelped and squirmed it's way out the window and fluttered off.
"Damned Gaia.." Kami muttered aloud, Kanoa giggled and splashed her in reply.

I am sleep..
no wait, I'm not. I'm awake. At least, it feels like I'm awake. Could never sleep this way, on my stomach I mean, my wings are too heavy. They always weigh me down it feels. I sit up and rub at my eyes, I haven't been to sleep long. That's okay. There are much better things to do when you're awake. Like I am now. I feel like I should be sleeping still but I don't want to be. So I don't go back to sleep. The house is quiet. I'm used to that. The pink lady isn't home yet either. She never is when the sun's still out. I can hear birds too. Stupid birds. They're scarycats.
I get up and walk to the edge of my crib and look around. I don't see that fuzzy lady anywhere. She's fun, she talks back to me, even if it is babbling. I humor her and pretend that she knows what she's saying. I wonder where she's at. She's never out of the room when I'm sleeping. I look down when I hear a buzzing sound. Oh , there she is. She's sleeping on the floor next to my crib. Hehe she looks so silly. I wonder if she will wake up if I drop a block on her. She makes the best faces ever.
I crawl to the edge of my crib and get one of my blocks and take it back to drop on her. Ooh! Good shot, right on the nose! ... That's funny.. she didn't wake up. huh. She must of really been sleepy. It's fun to watch things bounce off her face though, so I decide to get more things to drop on her!
Wait, what was that? Was that a noise from the other room? Maybe it's the pink haired lady! Excited that she may ofbrought me a gift I call out to her. That way, she can find me faster and give me my present! The foot steps in the hallway, I can hear them stop for a bit then keep going. I see a person come around the corner and I squeal. She found me!
Wait.. that shape.. I don't know that shape, That's not the pink haired lady. Hey, fuzzylady! Wake up! Wake up! She doesn't move. I'm scared now.
I see the figure bend down and poke at the fuzzy lady. She's still sleeping, why is she still sleeping?? He's left something in her hand, looks like paper. He looks at me and all I can see are his teeth and they scare me alot. I go and hide under my blankie. Making extra sure to cover my eyes too. Then he can't see me. Someone's yelling in the hallway. I peek out from under my blanket to see.
Oh! It's the pink lady! I want her to pick me up and take me away from this scary stranger but she's not coming to get me. Instead the stranger grabbed her, what a mean stranger! and starts dragging her away. No wait, don't leave me here! Where are you going??
Everything's getting muddy now. I can't really see, I scream and struggle but that only makes it worse! Why won't the stranger bring her back?? Why is the fuzzy lady sleeping??! I can't see! Help me!
Help!
Help!!!
.....
The gut wrenching squeal that erupted from the crib nearly made the lil wingged animal drop the window it was holding open on itself. In a panic, it fluttered into the room, mentally cursing as the window clapped shut making the baby cry that much louder as he hovered over the pristine white railing.
"Shhh! Hey lil guy don't cry! Yer ma's gonna hear you and turn me into paste! Shheee! Aww c'mon kid!" It hissed landing beside Kanoa trying to wrestle him up into his short stubby arms. Sitting the child up, he let out a shrill squeak as the toddler gripped at him tightly shaking with sobs.
"Aw c'mon, kid..!" The animal whined as it caught sight of a light turning on under the crack of the door. Starting to squirm and figit unable to get free, the creature began to make out it's last will and testiment in it's head as it sang.
"Lullaby~ and good Niiight, go t' sleep lil baby~
If you don't~ I'll be deaad and it's gonna bee yer fauuult~
I'm not cut ooout for this craaaap, I don't know why I came baa-Aaack~
Hope yer happy you got me killled~ You lil win-ged braat~~"
Maybe it was the underlying guilt trip or the steadily approaching footsteps, but Kanoa seemed to settle almost instantly, tears streaming from his eyes as he looked down at the creature in mild shock.
"...Kitty!"
"How yous doing." It replied flatly.
"How the hell did you get in here?!" Kami growled irratably.
"Ah... I.. eh.. heard th' kid cryin' and came runnin'." It lied but Kanoa burried his face in the creature's head fur so most of the answer was choked around the toddler's pudgy forearm. Leaning down into the crip, she gently pried the creature from Kanoa's grip fully prepared to squeeze the life from him.
"Nooo!! Kitty!! Mine!!!" She looked to Kanoa then back to the creature as the childed continued to protest.
A particularly cruel smirk split her muzzle as she pressed her thumb against the animal's chest slowly squeezing tighter. "Came in concern for th' child, mh?" Her voice barely above a whisper. Bringing the animal closer enough to cast a dim glow on his face from her eyes. His face was a mask of terror as it was frozen in her gaze. She gave him another squeeze to bring him around.
"Most c-certainly..!" It weezed sharply as it's senses returned. The more it struggled the harder it became to breathe. A place to sleep and food to eat wasn't worth this, he thought, or at least he was sure he thought. The lack of air was making him dizzy. Kanoa had quieted down some as he just watched the pair in facinated silence.
"You will stay on t' help care for him then. Since you're so concerned." She purred moving the thumb up under his throat.
"Y-yeah! I can do that...!" It choked.
"Good!" She chimed brightly and dropped him back down into the crib, Kanoa wasting little time in grabbing up the winged animal and crushing him to his chest in a hug.
"My kitty!"
"That's right, darling. He will or he'll pay." She purred leaning down to nuzzle at Kanoa's head and left the room. The creature goggling at the door as it was pulled down to snug with Kanoa. The child dropping back off to sleep almost instantly leaving it alone in the darkened room to jump at every slight noise through out the night.

The next morning was like any other. The clanking of plates against the table made the small creature who had been dubbed 'Kitty' wince and grab at his skull. An irratable growl passing through clenched teeth as it picked at the assortment of eggs, toast and bacon laid out before it.
"Stop your grousing. It's your own fault you know?" Kami clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth flipping a pancake in the skillet.
"I couldn't sleep, sue me." Kitty growled up at her, resisting the urge to spear his little fork her way. Kanoa dug happily into his breakfast. Oatmeal getting all over him rather than in him. He stopped in his gorging to look up at Kitty, reaching into his bowl to fish out a heaping glop to offer as a gift.
"O'meal!" he cheered ignoring the handwave and headshake he recieved as a reply as he leaned over to drop it with a wet plop right into the yolk of an egg. The yellow goo and oatmeal slush splattering them both to the child's glee. Kitty sneered and pushed the plate to Kanoa who barely waited for it to stop before diving headlong into the eggs and toast devouring both quickly. Kitty stared on in horrified awe at the sight, his ears flattening as his little leaf-wings rustled in anger.
"If I didn't know any bett'a I'd say y' did that on purpose!" Kanoa stopped to look at him from a handful of egg/oatmeal slosh with the bigest s**t eatting grin and returned to finishing off Kitty's breakfast. Kitty growled and threw up his paws in agitation just as Kami sat down with her own plate looking them both over nonplused by the mess. She was long sense used to the small warzone the kitchen table became during meal time. If Kitty was looking for some kind of justice it was lost on her as she shrugged and began to eat silently. It was only the both of them, now three and it wasn't a huge mess at least, not her biggest concern.
"Hey, Kitty." poked at him with the butt of her fork, "You know anything about Fa'e?"
Kitty slapped the end of the spoon only to end up with a stinging paw as it didn't move, "NO!"
"Didn't think so." She sighed and reached down to pluck Kanoa from the remains of the plate gently. "For once I'd like a day where I didn't have to bath you three times before lunch.." It wasn't that she was growing tired of the lil fa'e, never that, it just seemed like there was more to them that met the eye. Something much bigger than she expected to be included in. Far beit for a member of an established family on the isle of Gardia, rich in vast magics be shaken by such an occurance, but she was.
These Fa'e, even Kanoa, seemed to be harboring something potenially dangerous within and about themselves. It didn't help that no two were alike. If they were all similar, then there could be something said of them as a whole. Though it seemed that all they held in common was the name of their race. Finding information thus far had been an effort in fustration. It effectively had kept her from venturing back to the shop since the mildly intimidating experience with the fading fa'e. The image of those blue eyes burned into her memory and recalling it made her shudder visibly.
There was also the lingering memory of Kit's house and all the annoyance that it still haunted her brought. It seemed almost as if the house itself was taunting her from afar. She prepared the habital preparation for Kanoa's bath in the sink and sighed a little despondently to herself.
"Why not keep a hose on hand?" Kitty suggested helping himself to her deserted plate, "Y'sure he's a bat and not a pig o' some kind?"
"I'm quite sure." She answered distantly cleaning the cooing child. Later on, she plotted a visit to the headquarters again. Just for visiting purposes. Nodding affirmatively at this descision, she rinced Kanoa of, dried him and sat him down to watch Lilo and Stitch as she caught up on her reading of the books she'd long since ...borrowed from the library.

Kano was growing steadily as the days went by, he was no longer small enough to wriggle his way under the couch, though damned if he didn't try at times. He didn't even cause as much panic when he accidently tumbled headlong into the dishwater anymore. He was becoming a little more self sufficient and it gave his guardian some much wanted freedom to get other work down in the flat.
He sneered up at the rain as it pattered happily against the window pane very much as it had for the past couple of days and sighed. Stepping on the pause button of the remote, the screen that once had a frozen image blared to life again. He was trying his best to imitate the little hula dance from his new favorite movie. He made up the parts that weren't shown on the screen which resulted in a hokey little toe to heel slide along the hardwood floor.
Kami however, was not as thrilled and leaned from around the corner, a pen clasped tightly in her jaws, "Darlin', could you at least let the movie get past the begining?" She beseeched with a sigh. One of Kanoa's little ears turned in her direction as he continued the little shimmy at least one more time.
"Stitch learning to dance." He said planly pressing down the search button as the scene flickered and buzzed in reverse. Kami sighed and took the pen from her muzzle and sat on the couch behind him. The young fa'e having coined himself after the little blue alien within the first few hundred times of watching it. When the effort to get him to stop failed, she figured to let him grow out of it on his own.At the very least he stopped trying to imitate the voice...
"Tell you what, watch the rest of the movie and Ah'll find a hula class for you to attend." She offered watching his little routine with a slightly amused smirk.
The boy whirled around to latch onto her leg tightly. "Really!?? Ohkay!!" He cheered happily plopping on his rear to let the dvd play. His attention was still focused on her, his eyes bright. Returning his grin she would later regrete this offer later when she remembered he had a very good memory, and one did not make idle offerings around someone like that.
"When can Stitch hula?" He asked simply. "Today?"
"Not today. Ah have t' sort out my bills."
"Tomorrow." His tone still questioning but surely if not today it HAD to be then right? His ears splayed back in a gesture he picked up from her. "What you doing?"
"We'll see." She responded standing up to head out of the room, "Putting my photos in the big book." She said holding out a hand, "Want to see? I have some of you in there." Looking from her to the tv, he thought it over and got up taking her hand. Sitting him down in her lap, she showed him all the photos she had gathered up til the current. He tilted his head and pointed at a particular one.
"Who dat?" He had his finger on the one of Kit, tugging on her sleeve.
"Oh, just someone Ah knew." Kami felt an uncomfortable tickle at the back of her throat and shrugged off the question.
"I think I know her. Did I see her?" he pressed looking up expectantly.
"Yeah, but you were young."
"Oh.. who is she?"
"That's Kit. She used t' your mommy too."
"Really? I had two mommies?" He seemed to beam at this and rocked happily in his spot. "So where is she? She live far away?"
"Yeeeah. really far away."
"Oh.." He sulked a little then brightened back up again, "I'll see her again right?" The silence was slightly uncomfortable for her as she tried to think of something to say. 'no because she abandoned you' didn't seem like a good or wholesome answer, but lying wasn't really smart to do to a child. She knew this first hand.
"Ah dunno. Hey, why don't we watch your movie, then after that take a nap?" This brought on a wail of protest.
"Don't wanna naaaap!!" He tugged on the corner of a wing. "Don't wanna!!"
"Kanoa.."
"The bad man comes when I sleep!"
"Bad man...?" She questioned petting at his hair lightly, "What, do you mean like the bogeyman?"
He nodded pressing his face into her shirt as he clung to her. "He's scary and..and scary eyes...!"
Worried and confused, Kami sighed and set the scrap book aside and carried him back to the livingroom. "Okay then. We'll just watch the movie for now okay?" He nodded and continued to cling to her as they watched the rest of the movie.
The problem had a face of sorts now, it was just dealing with it. Kami sighed as the little blue alien whacked the bigger one with a car. If only it was that easy.
