Elderberry - Also known as Elder, Ellhorn and Lady Elder, the Elderberry a good wood to use in wands for charms, especially ones for driving out evil. Evil spirits and thought forms are said to be driven out when using such a wand, or if you are playing a panpipe or flute made of elder. It is said that if you are to stand under an Elderberry during the Midsummer, you will be able to see "the little people," just like if you stood in a ring of mushrooms. As are the words of Rede: Elder is the Lady's Tree, burn it not, or cursed be ye!

Alder - A sacred tree of Witchcraft with an element of fire, the Alder represents the emergence of the solar year and holds power of prophecy, oracular strength, intelligence, resurrection as well as air based magics. The Alder is believed to have feminine qualities due to its water aspect and it is related to the raven, crow and gull, as it is to the garnet. It's colors are purple, red, green and brown for royalty, blood/fire, green dye from the flowers and brown dye from the twigs respectively.

The Blessing Item:

Caretaker:
Name- KiiMeLwi ((Miriel Maranwe))
Age- Don't ask a lady that!!
Gender- Female
Birthday- July 11
Height - 5'7"
Weight - Don't even go there.

Marital Status - Single
Sexual Preference - Male

Likes - Mythical creatures, the element of water, comics on a Sunday morning and music of all kinds, especially with a solid beat.
Dislikes - Bugs, pitch black, tiny, closed off rooms, neon pink, needles, listening.
Talents - Cooking a lot at once, sewing, writing.
Appearance - Miriel has long, LONG blondish brown hair that goes a little bellow her butt. Her purple eyes, usually filled with joy, can pick up any hint regarding emotion of any kind and can turn as sharp and harsh when the mood requires such. She's a tall girl, and uses her height to her advantage often.

Theme Song: The Riddle, by Gigi D'agostino

Nienna's Opinion- Miriel is odd for an oddball. Even so, she does have a side to her that becomes very reasonable and reflexive when the mood arises. She knows when she can and shouldn't kid around, and when I want to talk, she listens and when I want to listen she talks. All in all, she's a great person, and I'm proud to know her, if not too well, at least at all. I'm growing to love her more and more as my mother.

THIS is the prompt I entered in order to win Nienna. Now y'all get to read it too. ((I still can't believe I wrote FriedMushrooms... gonk ))

"OH, for the love of FriedMushrooms!" I half shouted into the cold, dry afternoon air. "How am I ALWAYS this forgetfully lazy!" Turning completely around to make my way to my ((thankfully)) nearby home, I tried not to panic.

This is one of the most important days of my LIFE and I've FORGOTTEN to choose my blessing item AND I don't know what class to study! A.R.G.H.

I had just bought the most beautiful wand, made of Elderberry and Alder, a good combination, I must say, and I forgot to get an item. Ok, I admit it. I forgot to even THINK. Walking quickly, I began to contemplate. Desperate, yet...calmly...I contemplated what to choose. When I had first known of such a sale, I had planned to use an old jewel I've had ever since I was four. But after a little thought, I decided against it. Wisely. It didn't REALLY have much meaning to it, besides old memories, and that wouldn't bless a wand too well. It'd be better to have an item that actually had MEANING.

Realizing I had already passed my house (( sweatdrop )) I turned back once again and opened my front door. Rushing to my own mini library ((ok, it's a book shelf)) and grabbed the oldest and largest book I could find. It was my grandfathers, and he had been obsessed with magical things. I don't remember what the book was called, and the entire cover of the book itself was worn, torn and who knows what else so much that it was too difficult to comprehend.

Flipping to a random page, I noticed that it was also in my favorite section: The section talking about magical creatures and more specifically: DRAGONS. After staring for a minute or two at the glorious creatures, I glanced at my wand, and I began to think.

Elderberry...it's a beautiful plant, with small blossoms that represented Humility and Kindness. It's long been used in Native America for healing...and I heard the berries are good for colds. Magically, it works well with charms, especially ones that drive out evil. (( twisted ))

As for Alder, I heard that oddly enough its element is FIRE, even though it's a tree. My mother once told me that an Alder has feminine qualities because of its WATER aspects...which makes it all the more confusing. I think it has something to do with garnet stones...and I know that magically it's used with air magics, like levitation. I have always wanted to know how to fly...like those fascinating creatures of myth and air...((insert a little drooling right around this point, and you have a very good picture of me... 3nodding ))

Dragging myself out of these remembered studies and dreams, I looked at the clock...and almost had a heart attack. I had just 2 minutes left! Grabbing the book, my jewelry box and my wand, I fled, back towards the center of town.

"THINK" I yelled at myself. "T.H.I.N.K. You have time. There are three others getting blessed, and you need to choose something. And FAST." Dumping all my things onto the ground once I got nearby, I threw my jewelry box open and tossed out it's contents. One of these would do, I'd just have to see which would be RIGHT for me. Suddenly, I saw it. Er, actually, I cut myself on it, but as a drop of blood fell from my finger and onto my most prized possession, I knew it had to be this. It couldn't be anything else. Nothing else DESERVED to be.

My Dragon Pendent. I should have known. The sterling silver protector, ally and symbol of strength and wisdom ((according to the open book, which must have landed open when I dropped it)) hung from a matching chain to wrap its body around a ball of shinning black Hematite, a stone for grounding, protection, scrying and healing. It was perfect in all meanings of the word.

Collecting all my things neatly, I made my way to get my wand blessed, and just in time too! When they ask me what I'm going to study, I'm telling them I'll be studying levitation and try to learn to fly with my dragon friends! 3nodding

Just betwen you and me, I personally hope it's a girl, because when I was writing my promt to buy the wand, I had a girl in mind. If it IS a guy, I won't mind. I'll love him just as much. ACK! Now I'm more nervous. I'll go drink some tea, and...do something.

March 25, 2005-2:33PM EST:: I'm so excited! Nienna has finally arrived! When she first walked in...WAI! My mouth must have hanged down to the floor. She's BEAUTIFUL. I couldn't stop hugging my hellos. whee The first thing I did was to get her used to her new home. It's really lucky her items came the same time she did. She seemed happy about all the books. I was worried before buying them over what to get...so I just bought the store. blaugh She also seemed to like her kitty. I know she'd want a dragon, but she won't be allowed to have on for a little while. So Kitty it was. Whoo. Anyway, now that all that excitement's on paper, I'm going to go get to know my new charge.

March 27, 2005 - 9:22 AM EST:: I've only been here a few days and I'm already feeling overly welcomed. I haven't been able to write at ALL in this new notebook/journal thing, due to the fact that Miriel has been fluttering about and all over me since I arrived. I have to admit she's not a bad person, and she's really nice, just a bit odd. Well, aren't we all, but she's an odd sort of odd. Miriel made me crepes this morning for breakfast, and I'm beginning to think she's worried I dislike her or something. Mostly because I discovered that whenever she's nervous or uncomfortable, she tends to find something to take her mind off of it. And let me tell you, she must've REALLY wanted to ignore something seeing how there were piles and PILES of crepes all stacked up on four different plates...like I said...odd girl.

Hm. I've been trapped in this house for a couple days, and I can't wait to get out and meet some people and begin my new life here, but Miriel keeps keeping me here for whatever reason. At least I managed to get my studies done, and I even finished reading half of the Book of Spells Version One...anywho...Apparently Miriel moved here only a few days before I did and is still getting everything organized. My rooms all set up. All my books are in place, my notes, my bed, my desk...even Button ((This adorable black kitty given to me as a welcome gift by Miriel)) is all nice and settled. I love this room, it gives me a sense of...I don't know. Ease? Protection? It's not a large room...but I've never liked large rooms. They always end up being too OPEN. I like a small room so it has a cozy feeling. Back to the topic of my room. As I said before: It's not big, and I like it that way. There's also a connected bathroom, and if you glance towards the far wall, there's a HUGE window with a window seat and fluffy pillows allllll over. I'm planning to later paint a dragon on one of these white walls, just to add a little 'Nienna's touch' to it all.

Well, I'd better go help Miriel do the dishes. Maybe when it's all done, she'll let me go out and meet people.

Meeting Eisoli

Quote:
KiiMeLwi
"Er...mostly." Nienna smiled, pulling Button out of her pocket. "I'm beginning to think Miriel bought her for herself more than me. They get along more than well." She turned towards the kitten. "What are you doing here, Button? Huh? What are you doing without Miriel?" A sudden thought raced through her mind. What if..."Button, if by all the gods and goddesses you understand me and know how to get out of here, I'll be more than happy to give you all the tuna you want." Button mewed loudly and struggled to be let down...only to sniff at Eisoli's legs once Nienna put her down.

jayoku
Eisoli looked at the kitten as it sniffed her leg, her whiskers tickeled like nothing else, she let out a soft giggle and brushed some of her hair out of her eyes. Bending over she stroked the kittens back and then noticed white hiding under some bushes of a tree. "hey...arn't those snow drops over there?" She asked pointing to under the bush.

KiiMeLwi
Nienna was about to throw herself towards the white, but Button went before her. Disappearing into a bush, Button mewed loudly. "Ah!" Nienna grabbed Eisoli's hand and dashed off, dragging her along. "Button! Where are you going?! Oh nooo...Eisoli...Eh?" She almost stopped running. "Is that..." Button sat directly in front of the huge clump of snowdrops they had first seen.

jayoku
Being dragged along was actually more fun that she thought it would be. Catching her breath she nearly crashed into Nienna as she stopped suddenly. Her heart beat was thudding against her ribs, her legs ached from the sudden dash. "Wha?" She asked as she looked up and then saw the cluster of snow drops. "I...I'm not sure if they are the same...they certainly look like them."

KiiMeLwi
Nienna crumpled to the ground, staring at the snowdrops and her kitty. "They've gotta be the same...I hope." She glanced at Button. "Did you lead us to the right ones, tiny annoyance? Do you know how to get home?" Button sniffed at Eisoli again, and leapt into her arms, purring. "I think he likes you...the poor boy." She sighed, and sat completely on her butt. "This is an adventure...in itself."

jayoku
Eisoli nodded her head and stroked the kitten in her arms. It was a comforting thing this animal in her arms, slowly she rose and moved over to the snow drops, she seemed to stare at them for quite some time before she looked to Nienna a faint half smile on herl ips. "Yah i certainly agree this has been quite and adventure." She pointed down the trail that they were currently on. " I think these are the right flowers..."

KiiMeLwi
"Oh thank all the goddesses and gods!" She threw up her hands and looked at Button and Eisoli. "He CAN be useful! Mostly he's with Miriel. She loves him to DEATH!" She stood, brushing off her knees. "Shall we?" She offered an arm to escort Eisoli, giggling.

jayoku
Eisoli smiled and shifted Buttons weight so she could support him with one arm. She took Nienna's offered arm with a soft smile. "thanks for being so nice to me Nienna.." eisoli whispered shyly.

KiiMeLwi
Surprised, Nienna glanced to Eisoli. "What do you mean by that? No one's mean to you are they? I'll teach em good..." She made a fist with her other hand, chuckling, yet serious. "And of course I'm nice! Who could be mean to you?" She pinched Eisoli's cheek lightly. "You're too cute and have too perfect hair to be mean to."

jayoku
Embaressed she blushed and she fiddeled with the hem of her dress. "no..nno no one has been mean to me...it is just..." she always found it ahrd to make friends. She always felt so different from everyone else. "thanks.." she said with a bright smile and pulled Nienna closer towards herself. "We should defaintely hang out sometime."

KiiMeLwi
"Of COURSE we should!" Nienna declared. "And I'm going to spoil you." She laughed, giving Eisoli a hug. "And don't say thanks to me. I'm only nice to people I like!" She smiled brightly. "We just met, and I want you to be my sister! Little sister Eisoli, younger or not. Cute things deserve to be called 'younger' or 'little.' You don't want to be old."

jayoku
For a second Eisoli stared at Nienna and then giggled. "You are very nice. Call me Li-chan will you?" she tilted her head and then made a little heart drawing in the air with her finger. "How old areyou Nienna? i hope you don't midn me asking."

KiiMeLwi
"My little sister Li-chan!" Nienna chuckled. "I have nooooo clue how old I am." Nienna shrugged. "Around 16 or 17, Miriel says. Do you remember how old you are?" She moved a branch from the path with her foot, and stared straight again. "Hey...how long...have we been going in this direction?"

jayoku
Eisoli laughed and smiled again. "i think i am about that age as well. So should i call you older sister Nienna?" she felt so happy, this was the first time anyone called her Li-chan. it made her feel more comfertable, she looked at Nienna and then down the path. "Um...about five minutes why?" she answered avoiding the twig that was in her way as well.

KiiMeLwi
Laughing at the way 'older sister Nienna' sounded, she poked Eisoli happily. "If you really want to, Li-chan! I admit it can sound...different!" She looked down the path herself. "Because I think I can see light at the end of the forrest-tunel."

jayoku
Eisoli giggled. Old sister Nienna sounded definately strange. "How about i call you Nien-chan?" she inquired trying not to be too bold. She then looked down the tunnel of trees and nodded her head. it certainly did look like they were going to get out of here soon. it made her a bit sad...

KiiMeLwi
Nienna...or Old sister Nienna...or Nien-chan...sighed. "And thus our meeting comes to a sad close! Well, I'm glad to be OUT but...it was certainly fun being with you, having this adventure! Being attacked by wild Button's...gazing at a lake, a quest for snowdrops..." She nodded. "And adventure indeed!" She giggled at herself. "Medieval Nienna!" She declared.

jayoku
Eisoli laughed quietly and then looked down at 'Wild' Buttons and gave him a quick scratch under his chin. She then handed him off to Nienna. "perhaps we could get together soon?" she asked hopefully. she giggeled at Nienna called herself Medievil Nienna.

KiiMeLwi
Grinning, happy that she made Eisoli happy, Nienna bowed. "Of course, Milady Li-chan!" Reaching in about ten pockets, Nienna finally pulled out a piece of paper and a pen. Writing her address quickly, she handed it to Eisoli. "Keep in touch. And visit anytime you like! I'm usually home. And I don't live far from here. About a five-ten minute walk."

jayoku
A bot coy she slipped the peice of paper in her front pocket and then took the pen and tentalivly took Nienna's hand. "Can..can i write my address on your hand?" she asked, since she knew there wasn't a single peice of paper on her.

KiiMeLwi
"Coitenly." Nienna smiled, opening her palm. "But I warn you, my hand's ticklish." She giggled, just thinking about it. Button wiggled from her other arm to the ground to purr and rub his face against Eisoli's leg.

jayoku
Taking Nienna's hand gently she tried not to push too hard as she wrote the address down. She always seemed to memorize important things quickly thank god. Finishing up she handed the pen back to Nienna. "I guess this is goodbye?"

KiiMeLwi
"Goodbye is such a sad word!" Nienna giggled as the tickling feeling in her palm went away. Then she hugged Eisoli. "It was more than a pleasure meeting you today, and I'm sure I'll see you again soon!" She scooped up Button, being careful not to smudge the ink on her palm before saluting Eisoli. "I bid you farewell, mistress Li-chan! Visit SOON! And that's an order!" She winked, trying not to look too serious.

jayoku
"How about see you later then?" she asked with a smile, she put both arms behind her back to stop fidgeting with the hem of her dress. "And don't worry i will see you soon!"

KiiMeLwi
"Of course." Giving Li-chan one more hug, Nienna wandered off towards her house, waving behind her, and making Button wave too.

jayoku
Eisoli waved to them unti lthey had dissapeared from view. She felt a bit sad now alone. BUt she knew she would see her friend soon. With a half smile she headed back home.

March 31, 2005 - 5:09 PM EST:: Well today was pretty interesting. I went out for the second time, and without getting lost too. I managed to get to town, and I was window shopping when I noticed two other people around my age. And thus I met a wizard named DiMarco and a witch named Yuriko. That would add two more people to my, "I've finally met someone" list. I must say they weren't bad people. Not at all, really.

Well, what happened was I was drooling over some candy in some sort of shop, and I felt someone staring down my neck. Apparently, DiMarco had noticed my reflection in his window. I walked over, of course, introduced myself, and they themselves. Yuriko had been looking in a clothing shop and was staring at this beautiful red dress, so we all went in so she could try it on, and maybe DiMarco and I could get...well...something. While looking through everything, I must say DiMarco looked as if he wished he wasn't there. Kind of odd, but I think I'm getting used to odd people. Not long after, Yuriko put on the dress, came out...and then I remembered I had promised Miriel I'd help her clean. I rushed home of course, and she didn't even seem to notice.

I gave both of them my address before I left though. I did introduce myself to get to KNOW people, and I don't want to have to wait until I see them next. I hope one of them will accept my invitation at least. Or maybe remember me if I happen to bump into them.

New topic. When Miriel and I were done cleaning and all that, we ate a little lunch/snack and I went upstairs to study. I'm almost done with my first book...the Basic spells one, and I would've finished if Miriel hadn't given me one of the best and oddest surprises of my life. She entered my room, wearing this weird bear hat and carrying an old book. She said it was her grandfathers, and I'd probably like the section about dragons. She pointed out the page and then left me alone again. I can tell she's trying real hard to make me like her...at least it's working!

As for my studies, I'm beginning to rethink my class choice...but then again, I'm not so sure. Levitation...it seems like such an interesting class...but would it be better to take Charms instead? Levitation is included in all that if I'm not mistaken. I also thought about beastiology, due to my obsession with dragons. I'm starting to wish Eisoli hadn't questioned my choice of class. I mean, I don't blame her, but it's making me think too much. Now I'm all confuzzled.

Oh...new word. cunfuzzled...I like it.

~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~

March 31, 2005 - 5:09 PM EST:: Nienna went out for a walk today. I let her go, since she's seems to like her walks. She went for one yesterday too, I believe I mentioned. Before she left, however, I made her promise to come home at a certain time ((I don't remember exactly sweatdrop )) to help me clean, and she promised. She did come back a little later, I do remember, but she explained that she had met some people, so I didn't really mind too much.

Anyway, when we finally finished, I made some lunch crepes and we talked while we ate. She seems to like the crepes I make...I must remember to make them not so often that she gets sick of them though. Well, it is the food I make best...Er...back to our chat. Nienna says the people she met took her clothes shopping. More like looking, I suppose. I should give the poor girl some money to buy some clothing.

After eating, Nienna went to her room and studied. She must be really intent on learning magic. When I first thought of that, I remembered about Grandpa's book hidden in my closet and decided to give it to Nienna. I hoped it would make her feel even more welcome, and maybe she'll like me more. We haven't really talked that much, but I have already started to love her like a daughter. She seemed delighted about the book. And I seemed to surprise her with my bear hat...witch I found with the book.
