The Story
This manga series has an interesting title, the "W" in Japanese sounds like "double" so you can also read the title as "Double Juliet". The reason for this will quickly become obvious as you read on. So, the basic story is this. Makoto is a guy who's dressed up as a girl attending a co-ed school. Ito is a girl who's really tomboyish and just really looks and behaves like a boy. Although not in the same class at first, Ito and Makoto meet each other in drama club and became good friends in a really short time. Makoto is shocked to find out that Ito is a girl, but not as shocked as Ito finding out Makoto is a boy. ^_~
The most important thing you learn early on in the manga is why Makoto is dressing up as a girl to go to school, the reasons behind his motivation and why something that sounds so frivolous actually has a greater goal. Makoto's father is a really strict and traditional kinda guy who wants his oldest and ONLY son to suceed him as master of his school of martial arts. Ever since he was a boy, it's been drilled into him and Makoto grew increasingly tired of the responsibility and pressure placed on him. Especially when he takes a liking to theatre acting after watching a show once and deciding that he'd rather be an actor when he grows up. So, his father makes a deal with him, that if he can make it through the rest of high school as a girl without anyone else finding out the truth, he can choose his own career in acting. Being the only way he could earn his freedom, Makoto agrees to the bargain.
Characters Miura Ito - Not only does Ito look like a boy physically (she's tall, fit and practices karate), but she prefers to behave like a boy, going so far as to wear the boys' uniform instead of the girls'. Amano Makoto (Narita Makoto) - Gaining instant popularity when he transferred to Ito's school due to his super model looks and figure, Makoto acts every bit like a well-bred lady. Except, he's not one...
