okay well my last quest thread fell victim to the new migration whatnot so i was not able to edit any of my posts. merrr... that meant that i had to start another one so i could update and let you all know of my progress. also... i wanted to continue my bird of the week special. this one is better planned anyway. hehe

Info about me

hiyas! as you can probably tell already i am very well... zealous... about birds. heh... im majoring in biological science at Cornell with hopes of ultimately getting a doctorate in ornithology. i know a lot of you are hesitant to donate to noobs so i want to let you know that i have been here since Mar 26 2005 and have over 12,000 posts. I also have a charity that I am funding on my own... which is why any help on my quest will be loved. hehe... whether that is good enuff is in the end up to you... but i promise you im extremely addicted to gaia and your donations will be greatly appreciated... in any amount.

Ornithology in a nutshell

for those of you who read the first post and wondered what the heck ornithology is... here is some information that will hopefully answer your questions.

first off...
what the heck is it?

ornithology is the study of birds. it can range from simple anatomy to migration patterns, natural habitats, population control, behavior, bioacoustics, etc.

why study it?

ornithology is an important part in the analysis of ecosystems and other enviromental studies. scientists can use ornithology to indentify and classify different species of birds or use their knowledge for population control (among other things). Plus birdies are just plain kyoot ('specially the really poofy ones). ^^

commonly referred to as: The Japanese White-eye or Mejiro

description: Japanese White-eyes, or Mejiros, are relatively small songbirds, they range between 4 to 4.5 inches. White-eyes have a slightly curved black bill extending from their yellow forehead. The name White-eye was given because of the silky white rings around the eyes. This distinctive feature is not always present in juveniles. The colors of the White-eyes back range from olive to dusky green, with blackish brown outlined in green covering the top of the tail and its flight feathers. The underside of the tail and the chin are both yellow. With the exception of a single band of smoke-gray, the throat is also yellow. The middle of the breast and belly are yellow white with the rest of the under parts pale brown. The feet and legs are black

other factual tidbit: The White-eye is an easily tamable bird. It has a beautiful song and it is very sociable making it a favorite cage bird. Its reputation as a good pet spread across Japan and Korea but did not stop there. As its good reputation spread, so did the lovable and charming songbird. Today, it can also be found throughout the Indian region in places such as Pakistan, Ceylon, Burma, and the Philippines. In 1929, It was introduced to the island of Oahu from Japan by the Territorial Board of Agriculture and Forestry, then it was introduced to the island of Hawaii in 1937, and today inhabits all the Hawaiian Islands. The Mejiro is a highly adaptable bird and it is the most abundant passerine bird in the islands. When spotted in its natural settings the White-eye is often seen in flocks of 5 to 20 or more birds displaying their skills as acrobats, hanging upside down and in every orientation necessary to search for food.

Bird Art Commissions [TEMP CLOSED]

got a favorite bird?
if there is a certain bird that you really love and want me to draw for you, send me a pm. i charge 6k or a sealed letter per drawing though, because it is very time-consuming (and i need gold for my quest... hehe). on the other hand, if you are a bit short of gold but really want me to draw a pic of your favorite bird anyway let me know and i'll try to work something out. i always luff when someone shows enthusiasm towards birds. ^^

all drawings will be shaded like the samples in the post above. i dont do color very well.

there is no complicated form to fill out... all i ask is that you tell me which bird you'd like me to draw. also, i can write in the scientific name of the bird if you'd like, somewhere below the pic (for free of course).

so i guess that makes the form something like this...

any additional information you'd like added:
(leave blank if you just want the pic without any added info)

(additional info can include, but is not limited to, common name, scientific name, average size, migration patterns (if any), diet, etc. this is also based on if i can find the information. although it shouldnt be much of a problem ^^)

all commissions are paid for upon completion so i wont ask you for any payment until your picture is good and ready. also, because each picture is so time-consuming, i will not take more than 3 at a time on my waitlist. (that would be bad if i take more than i can handle... heh...)
