Hello and welcome to The Sarnin Observatory! This shop was first started by Vashtya in Jan '03, but has since passed into my (Marushii's) hands. ^^; ShinRa's hands.

But enough of that. Hopefully this shop will offer you something of interest, be it a game or a chance to exercise your writing prowess and skill.

So! Come, look around, kick back and enjoy yourself! Most of the Sarnins don't bite. {:3 Proceed into this sector at your own risk. The Turks are looking for new recruits to send out on missions and to complete tasks, as well as look after the strange, hybrid-like animals called "Sarnins." 08/30/05 -> The Page 200 event, The War 'gainst Plastic & Plushie, has been concluded. You may read the event here.

The guild's Mission thread has been also updated, with a finished description and ability for every element save Rainbow, which will be finished within the next little while.

Well, if anyone remembers the godzilla incident from a few weeks ago, this will sound painfully familiar: there's an army of baby pink godzilla plushies running around my office, and they MUST BE STOPPED!

The event will span the next three days, so if you'd like to participate, go sign up for the evenings you'll be available!

Sign-up sheets can be found at the very top of pg. 214, because So-chan is lucky~

07/21/05 -> Games have been added to the guild, as well as several new mission prompts. The new element Wraith has been discovered, though it's merely a rumor -- as to if it's true or not... remains to be seen.

07/20/05 -> Double Cosplay Raffle ended with no mishaps! Though there was some havoc at the end, but hey -- that's where all the fun in events come from, randomness and chaos. {:3 A flatsale has been planned.

06/19/05 -> Began moving things from the old thread to here! Missions and games will be backed up in notepad and transfered to the guild when guild is created.

06/12/05 -> As you can see, a new thread was created. As you can also see, the Games, Missions, Records and Rank Points appear to be missing. These things will show up in the guild that I'm planning on creating. ^^

To get money for the guild, I will be having a special cosplay special! Tickets will be 100g, though I haven't decided if it should be limited or not. Thoughts/Opinions? There will be two cosplaying Sarnins.

Chaos Prevention 101

  1. Do not steal or alter or change the Sarnins, Draconics, Sekkar or certs. Draconics happen to think you are very crunchy and will go well with BBQ sauce.

  2. Don't beg/whine/harass for a Sarnin. The more Maru knows that people have interest, the faster she'll work in finding Sarnins.

  3. Can't make it in time for a flatsale? Maru doesn't bite, and can work with you to find a good time. Occasionally, she'll offer ways for people to "reserve" a Sarnin, but be warned -- you have to work for it!

  4. PLEASE don't talk about other shops in this shop. It's incredibly rude. D:

  5. ...On that note, don't link to other shops in here unless you're asking for an affiliation. Affiliates will only be accepted from shop mules and/or the owners themselves.

  6. Good things happen to those who are present for them. n_-

  7. Don't overly quote. You may quote up to three times here. After that, cut it down.

  8. Stay IC when RPing. If someone arrives into the thread and chats OOCly, don't pounce them ICly. >> It's like pouncing a ghost. <_<;

  9. Don't want to RP? It's fine with me. These are RP-optional pets. Though, if you're not around for the Good Things that sometimes happen to those that are here, 's not my problem. >_>; Of course, you can hang around and chat OOCly for a chance at these Good Things, too -- even if you're not an owner!

  10. I have the right to revoke ownership of a Sarnin. This extreme thing will only happen if you do something really, really REALLY stupid such as masquerading as a mod, stealing art, etc. You will also be blacklisted. So please, please don't be stupid.

  11. CONCERNING THE NEW POSTING STYLES. Don't use the Ornate style, document style, or display your whole inventory, or use the "show friends" post action options. It'll slow down the loading of the pages, which is a PAIN if you're on dial-up. Also, refrain from using any of the post actions in this shop unless you are in an RP and have agreed with who you're RPing with what would constitute a hit/twink/whatevertheheckyou'rerollingfor (ie, 1-2 is a critical hit, 3-4 miss, 5-6 hit) in an RP. Failure to do so will result in a warning the first time, another warning the second, and then greylisting the third.

  12. Updates to the thread will be posted in ornate style. Basically, if info on the first page is updated, or something important comes up, one of the staff will post in this style to let you all know what's up.

  13. Updates to RP-events will be done by the staff in document style. This is so you won't miss anything important, plot-wise. :3

  14. If you see someone breaking a rule? Drop Corgan a PM or one of the staff members an IM if they're online. We will deal with it. Taking matters into your own hands won't just make you appear to be a meanie -- you'll also get a hefty smack from us as well. You've been warned once, freely. The next two times, you'll recieve two more warnings... Thrice? Greylist. heart

  15. ...hinting at wanting a FS will elicit a laugh from us. Doing it again will get you a mean glare. Doing it a third time will get a hefty punt from us and the fact that we'll never take you seriously again. heart

  • How big are Sarnins/Sarlings?
    A Sarnin is about as big as a horse, while a Sarling is about the size of a foal. For a better idea... Imagine that a Sarnin can easily rest their head upon your's when both of you are standing. For Sarlings, imagine that their head comes to your chest level.
  • Hooves?
    NO. Paws. ^^
  • Can a Sarling fly?
    Yes, but their muscles aren't strong enough to support anyone or anything riding them. Tip for Sarlings: When you fly, try to miss the ground. ^_^
  • What noises can they make?
    The funny sounds known as "human, or English or Spanish or Japanese or German etc., as well as barks, snarls, growls, hisses, neighs... Purring can be mimiced, but is usually mastered only by those that are more feline than others. Draconics can also roar... VERY loudly. If one's getting ready to roar, be sure to get behind them and face away from them to minimalize any potential hearing damage.
  • What do Sarnins eat?
    Horse-stuff. ^^ Anything from grass to hay to plants that aren't poisonous... And chocolate. Sarnins go nuts over chocolate. Meat, however, is only consumed by the more feline and Draconic Sarnins. Draconics do not like plants, but do enjoy fruit.
  • What's the Observatory like?
    It's like your standard Star-Observatory... One big room, though the telescope's gone. Instead, an office was installed in back for Maru (and who knows how many rooms are in there!), as well as a kitchen for all hungry Sarnins and their companion-owners. The place appears to be more of a louge or some comfortable cafe, complete with many pillows and couches. There are a few stairs that lead to the upstairs, cunningly placed as to not block the view from the wide windows. The stairs lead to the roof, whereupon part of the "dome" has been flattened to turn into a sort of take off and landing pad. There are also a few pillows up here that are used for sun bathing -- when they're not clogged with water, that is.

    The     Observatory itself is set in a niche in the mountains, far away from the human-cities so that it takes a two-hour flight to reach them with good winds. The area around the Observatory is a small meadow with several trees, which eventually gently rolls down and into the forest, where paths can be seen. The forest has grown close together, giving a VERY strong hint that it isn't wise to fly through here. West of the Observatory is a waterfall, about a twenty minue walk away and an even less flight. The water forms into a lake that forms one river that slices through the forest like a knife, as well as seemingly countless streams.

The Sarnins
The Story of the Sarnins
A long, long time ago, when Elves were as numerous as the blades of grass upon the meadow over younder, past the forest, they realized something. As keen to the woods as they were, there were still creatures that lurked within the very woods they lived in that they could not successfully drive off. Time after time these creatures came and attacked, striking at the most vulnerable of the Elves - their livestock. Swiftly, the number of horses and oxen declined, forcing the merchants who relied on those beasts as a way of transportation to earn their living to push their trips back until replacements could be found.

One day, the High Druid of the Elves called his kin together to discuss this. After all, without trade, a city swiftly fades and dies out. Together, they devised a plan - a plan which, if it worked, would solve their problems once and for all.

The druids soon came together and started their low chanting, aided by the mages in the background as a source of power. After all, only though who understood Nature could have any hope or chance at changing it. After three days and two nights, the first Sarnin opened its eyes.

The Sarnins were the result of different animals merging into one being. The first animal they had was a horse - once on the run, nothing can stop an Elven-bred horse as it chases the wind. The second animal they chose was the fox - crafty, intelligent beings who know what to do and how to react in a situation. The third animal they choose was the cat, simply for the sleek grace and power. Finally, the last animal they choose was the eagle-- The rulers of the sky.

They were a success - the Sarnins could now defend themselves from attacks by their sharp wit and claw. Or, if the situation proved to be unfavorable, it wasn't too hard to flee, as they had the ground as well as the air free to them. They were inquisitive and friendly, never lifting a paw against one another nor against their protectors, companions, or anyone. Yet, no Sarnin can resist the temptation of a mischievous trick to be pulled on someone in good humor, nor can they resist the sweet taste of chocolate.


Sarnin Stats

Height (Sarling): Roughly the size of a horse's foal
Height (Sarnin): Roughly around the size of a horse (4.3-
Diet: Plants, Fruit; no Meat
Favorite Treat: Chocolate
Favorite Food: Chocolate; otherwise what you'd expect a horse to eat
Least Favorite Food: Meat (exceptions: those that are more feline than equine; can tell by non-retractable claws)
Misc. Facts:

  • Sarlings can fly, but they can't fly carrying someone until they become a Sarnin, when they're stronger.
  • When carrying someone, Sarnins fly slower than they would unburdened. Wind-aligned Sarnins fly faster, and the "burden rule" does not apply to them.
  • Sarnins do NOT have hooves. They have paws, complete with small, retractable claws. Think house cat-like claws. The meat-eating Sarnins have non-retractable claws, but are sharper and more deadlier.
  • Sarnins have a keen sense of justice and Chivalry.
  • Sarnins can speak common tongue, should they choose. They can also whinny, snort, growl, roar, purr... Anything! Even croak. o.o
  • Sarnins have a "sense" of what's magical, and what's not. The stronger the Rank they have, the stronger and easier they can feel it. Their ability to use what they find depends on their class.



The Draconic-Sarnins
The Story of the Draconics
There came a time within the Elven Kingdom when it was still mighty that there was one group who were unhappy with the success and prowess of the Sarnins. They were the Akh'faerin -- the true, Elven mages. It was to them that their kin had called upon for help and, in exchange for a fee, a scroll with a spell to ward of foes was given. In worse cases, an even larger fee was given to "rent" an apprentice mage to test their offensive spells upon those that would attack the caravans.

It was when they realized that the Sarnins could watch said apprentice cast their spells and learn to cast them as well did the Akh'faerin fear for their position. The Sarnins had replaced them by becoming a better and cheaper way for protection... What if these creatures were put in their place? They would have to lower themselves to other jobs and positions!

In fear, on the inside the Akh'faerin were in chaos. All was put at ease when one of the high mages suggested that they created their own creature. What if, they reasoned, we created a better creature than the Druids? Then it would be the druids who were out of a job! Eagerly, they brought together the same essences that the Druids used -- it was, after all, a good combination. In with the mix of spirits went the energy and elements from spells, as well as a new essence... Dragon, the mightiest of all known Creatures within the Elven Kingdoms.

And so, the Draconics were born. They were, indeed, bigger and stronger than the Sarnins as the Akh'faerin hoped... But the Sarnins and now the Draconics continued to learn from them, and mastered the very skills the Akh'faerin possessed. When the wars within the Elven Kingdom began, it was the Draconics who bore the elven knights; the Sarnins bore the healers and mages themselves, as they lacked the tough armor and power the Draconics possessed.

When the first Draconic tasted blood is when, quite literally, all hell broke loose. Draconics bucked their riders and ripped off their harneses, then slaughtered all who were unlucky enough to be near before taking off, swiftly disappearing and quickly fading into legend and story... Just like their dragon-kin.

And just like their dargon-kin, they're back.


Draconic-Sarnin Stats

Height (Egg): Around the size of an Ostrich's egg.
Height (Hatchling): Roughly the size of a small dog. Yes, a small dog.
Height (Adult): Roughly around the size of a Clydesdale horse (Around 5'6"+)
Diet: Mostly Meat; Few Fruits, no Plants
Favorite Treat: Believe it or not... Dark Chocolate. >_>
Favorite Food: Meat
Least Favorite Food: Green Plants, such as grass, hay, etc.
Misc. Facts:

  • Hatchlings take longer to learn to fly than Sarlings.
  • As adults, Draconic Sarnins have a special "breath attack" such as fire-breathing Dragons do, only it is their element. In instances where their element isn't physical, the Draconic instead glares and inflicts a "psychic" attack. The length and severity of this depends upon how strong the Draconic is with their element.
  • Draconic claws are retractable, like a house cat's... only sharper and more deadly.
  • Like Sarnins, Draconics have a keen sense of justice and Chivalry.
  • ...but aren't afraid to play dirty once in awhile.
  • Draconics can speak common tongue, should they choose. They can also whinny, snort, growl, roar, purr... Anything! Even croak. o.o They can also speak Draconic, in which only dragons and other Draconics can understand.
  • Like Sarnins, Draconics can "sense" what's magical, and what's not. The stronger the Rank they have, the stronger and easier they can feel and find it. Their ability to use what they find depends on their class.


The Sekkar
Story of the Sekkar
No one knows where they come from... or what their purpose is. This mystery, hopefully, will be revealed later when we learn more about the Sekkar.

For now, there are two known types -- the "innocents" and "tricksters", or the "angels" and "devils" of the conscience world... for Sarnins. There is no limit to how many Sekkar a Sarnin or Draconic may have.


Sekkar Stats

Height (Type: "Rabbit" wink : Three to twelve inches; foot to ear-tip
Height (Type: "Gecko" wink : Three to eight inches long; snout to tail-tip
Height (Type: "Ferret" wink : Four to ten inches tall; paw to horntip
Height (Type: "Hedgehog" wink : Think "volleyball" and you got it, only spikier.
Diet: ???
Favorite Treat: ??? (Suspected: Chocolate or Vanilla (icecream))
Favorite Food: ???
Least Favorite Food: ???
Misc. Facts:

  • When Marushii says "Sekkar", she's usually referring to the "rabbit" type. She'll specify for the other species.
  • Sekkar are "familiars" of sorts. However, much like a conscience, there is a "good" and a "bad" -- an angel and a devil on a shoulder, if you will.
  • The Sekkar (type "rabbit" wink are the troublemakers. They're the ones that are most likely to sit back and watch if one gets into trouble. They're also the ones that are known for their random "attacks" which can change a Sarnin's color and element alignment. They also have VERY short attention spans, despite their "power."
  • The other Sekkar types (gecko, hedgehog and ferret) are the "angels." They are the protectors of a Sarnin, and will do their best to make sure that the Sarnin is safe. However, their power is highly limited -- they can NOT do what a Sekkar (rabbit-type) does, which is change one's colors or mess with their alignment. What they CAN do that Sekkar (rabbit-type) can't is find the Sarnin's element-alignment quickly, and instantly -- MUCH faster than their Sarnins, in fact! With one of these, a Sarnin can also draw on their power easier.
  • The "rabbit-type" Sekkar is known to pull a prank and run off and hide for a couple of days. If this happens, don't worry -- the lil' bugger'll turn up later.
  • The fire on a Sekkar's tail can't catch anything on fire!
  • Sekkar with black headbands know martial arts.
  • Sekkar are mischievious, but they will never do a prank that has the potential to kill or harm someone!

How do I...

...purchase in a flatsale?
Flatsales can differ, depending on how sneaky Maru feels like, or if she gets an idea, or if she's lazy.

There are three different types of sales.

Speed sales is when you wait for Marushii or Corgan_ala_Sarnin to post the Sarlings and their numbers. You will see the FS-form in the post below, under the ones up for grabs -- this is what you'll fill out, and post as soon as Jessie-kat, Marushii, or Corgan_ala_Sarnin posts "GO!". Be sure to have everything in the form filled out... Sometimes, just the basic info will be asked for, while other times, you may have to bring a special item! (Translation: Mini scavenger hunt. Put the image's URL in the space designated.)

Prompt-based flatsales is when a prompt must be responded to in RP-format in order to earn right to own the Sarnin. This form is rare, and is usually reserved for rare or special Sarnins. Draconics have a series of three RP-prompts known as a Trial. In a Trial, the first prompt is generic, the second is pre-made, and the third is based off of what you said in the previous two responses.

The last is Scavenger. In this, you must find a picture or quote that Marushii or Corgan_ala_Sarnin asks for before everyone else. You post the picture/quote along with what number Sarnin/Sarling you want, and the name of the person it's going to if you're giving the Sarnin to someone.

Then, if there's time left, and you have enough to beat the high bid (usually found in the third post, along with the bid history), then post your offer. The highest offer at the end of the time limit wins, or the person who 'auto-buys' it wins.


...participate in a raffle?
Easy. Just post how many tickets you like, and send the trade for them to Corgan_ala_Sarnin! If there's an opprotunity for them, there might be extra tasks you can do to earn more free tickets... But that all depends on Maru. www.randomizer.org will be used to determine the winner. Winner will need to PM Corgan_ala_Sarnin with a name and owner for the Sarnin they just won.


Sarnins up for adoption and planned events can be found in the next post. If there's nothing there, then no Sarnins are avalible at the time. :3

Once upon a time, the old Sarnin Thread was alive. Then Gaia ate it. If you bought a Sarnin from the old ~*Sarnin Cloud*~, please PM Corgan_ala_Sarnin with "Sarnin Ownership" as the title. In the PM, be sure have the picture of the Sarnin! If you changed your Gaia name since then, PLEASE find a way to prove that it's you. 'cause I really don't want a Sarnin to be Sarnin-napped. sweatdrop

You see, when two Sarnins love each other very, very much...

"So, either your Sarnin found their true love, or you got together with someone and thought, "Hey! If your Sarnin breeds with mine, their offspring would be SOO COOL!" and are now reading this to see how you can get babies. Right? ALL RIGHT! Now that we're on the same pa-"

"CORGAN! Shoo! SHOO!"

"...Ahem. Allow me to tell the basics."

The Basic Breeding Rules!

  1. Love Is Blind! Sarnins of any gender can breed with another!
  2. Love Knows No Bounds! ...So for all that's known, you could have a love triangle. And, chances are, all the Sarlings as a result would look like all three of their parents... Why're you looking at me like that for?! Sarnins come from clouds -- the actual process isn't known! More'n'likely, Sarnins summon their young in an elaborate ritual! >_>;;;
  3. Love Hits a Brick Wall! ADULTS ONLY! And DIFFERENT FAMILES ONLY! No questions asked; final line.
  4. Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing! GodIhatethatsongafterlisteningtomyfriendssingitagainandagain... AHEM. The more you RP and your Sarnins show love, the greater chance you'll get more Sarlings! (max. is four)
  5. Love is in the Air! Note that if you spontaniously breed, you'll only get one Sarling if you own both Sarnin; two if both Sarnins are owned by different people, etc. Sudden falling in love overnight and trying to breed the next day will STILL get you one or two depending on the situation. I need to see it develop, yo!
  6. Love is Sensitive! Don't RP your Sarnins "doing it." Go take it over AIM or PM if you want to RP it.
  7. Love is (your word here) You must keep or give away your Sarlings to a friend. If you cannot, they will be sold through an event or flatsale through the shop. You may not sell these, or use them as a bribe for another breedable!


...In case you were wondering, Vashtya, the origional Sarnin Keeper found the Sarnins in the clouds. It appears that the Sarnins summon their young, rather than... err... doing what animals "normally do." Hence, more than two Sarnin can participate in the "summoning ritual." This, however, can result in some very strange results, and isn't reccomended. A draconic may assist in the ritual, but only if he or she feels a strong bond towards/with the couple. If a draconic assists, there will not be draconic offspring! There will only be Sarlings. Period.

The Prices

  • One Sarnin Couple : 3k (1.5k from each)
  • One Sarnin... Triad?: 4.5k (1.5k from each)
  • One Draconic Couple: 8k (4k from each)
  • One Draconic... Triad? N/A (Sarnins Summon. Draconics lay eggs. Get the picture? Not possible!)
  • Two Sarnins; One Draconic: 10,002 (3,334 each. Aren't I clever?)

FIRST OFF. What's all in the guild, hidden away that make this particular breedables special?

Games

No, we're not talking about any raffle here. These, quite simply, are activities you can do to earn your Sarnin or Draconic rank points (see below). Games can rang in anything from simple puzzles to brain teasers to simple color or finish the picture. Crosswords and wordsearches can also be found here -- I'm sure you've seen those "Travel Activity Books"? Those sorts of activities can be found here.


Missions

If you've looked around the breedables section, you may have stumbled upon "RP-Flatsales" where you are given a prompt, and, in a certain amount of time, you are to respond to the prompt with a written response. The response can either earn you a pet, or a pat on the back.

That is what a mission is -- a prompt. However, you take on the role of your Sarnin, and must complete the task. But not your normal, usual prompt with one goal in mind... In the prompts, you get a task -- you can complete it however you like, even in the last paragraph (though, if it sounds a bit rushed, the Maru may catch on)! It doesn't matter how long you take to respond to it, as long as it meets the minimum requirement of 250 words. If you go over it -- great! The more you write and the more you entertain the easily-entertained Maru, the more rank points (see below) you'll earn.


Rank Points

Rank points are like Gaia Gold. You earn them to "cash in" on things, from clothes to breedables, to whatever you wish to buy. However, Rank Points at the Observatory are used to determin a Sarnin's rank, much like a rank in an army. Depending on the rank, different powers are enabled to help you have more fun and destruction on missions.

Rank Points are ment for the RP'ers! So if you don't want to RP or earn Rank Points, it's totally fine! biggrin If you just want to do games, or just missions, that's fine too. ^_^

  • TWO PEOPLE RUN THIS SHOP. SPECIFY WHO YOU'RE OFFERING THE OFFER TO! So as the title of the PM to Corgan_ala_Sarnin, "Pet Trade? [person you wanna trade with]." Maru runs two shops and doesn't wanna get confused. Kat is going to just save PM-space.
  • Custom for custom, random for random!
  • Draconics are rare. Please don't be upset if I turn down your trade -- I am very picky when it concerns Draconics.
  • Oh, and about Draconics? Maru's the only one with the Draconic Lineart, so if you want one... Be prepared to offer something to both Jessie-kat and Maru in return for a Draconic. (Or two, depending on if there's more than one person behind the trade)
  • ...Marushii and Jessie-kat may or may not allow a certain type of lineart-edit. Such as draconic features on a regular Sarnin. That's just a big NO right there, as there are all ready Draconics. This includes "Denomics." Look at it this way -- there's no harm in asking, right? ^^
  • Maru's picky about RP-req'd pets, since she doesn't have time. Jessie-kat, however, she is not looking for OMGSTRICTYOUPOSTEVERYDAYORIWILLTAKEYOUOUTBACKANDFLOGYOUWITHSCENTEDSHOELACES RP-reqs. It never hurts to inquire!
  • There are no limits on color amounts. However, the more "complicated" your order is, the more our's may be. {:3
  • Please read the important notices under the custom form concerning Elements and Classes. Even if you're not planning on sticking around and just want a Sarnin/Draconic as eye-candy, please adhere to them anyway.
  • Marushii is often busy, and can easily accidentally forget to grow a sarling when they're supposed to grow. You may request that your Sarnin starts off as an adult, if you wish.
  • ...pet trade or not, Draconics take a heckofalongtime to hatch. You've been warned. biggrin If you wish, we may convince the Draconic inside to hatch early.
