Hey everyone. I have both good and bad news. I'd like to get the bad news out of the way first and I will be frank:

NJ and I have decided to close Tohu.

There are many reasons for this, and I won't go into them all here, but needless to say NJ and I are very reluctant to do this. We really love Tohu and appreciate all the support you have given us, because every person who participated in this thread is amazing. And I'm not just saying that to be cheesy, I really mean it; you guys waited so long and put up with so much crap that it practically boggles my mind. Which is why we feel horrible closing the shop.

Tohu proved to be too much strain for me and NJ due to time constraints and creativity issues on my behalf, and since this is just Gaia we want to do something we enjoy working on, not something that turned into a chore. And none of it is your fault, it is completely our own. So we decided to close before people got too into Tohu to make things easier. We're so sorry everyone who was looking forward to the shop, and we hope you accept our apologies, but NJ and I have decided to return to a... simpler time.

Interpret that as you will.

The good news is that there will be compensation for those of you who participated in the FS. Winners, you will each receive a headshot from NJ of your characters, and both winners and participants will receive a surprise in just a few months. We know this doesn't make up for everything, and we're extremely sorry. But we will try to make things right in time.

Again, we're so sorry, but all we've done with this is shut a window so we can open a door again. We hope you can forgive us for closing so soon, but we promise we will do our best to make it up to you.

Much love,

Puchi and NJ

Definitions
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Nonreality - Nonreality is present in every thing in Tohu, living or dead, animate or inanimate. However, some things have more Nonreality than others, and occasionally people are born with the ability to manipulate the Nonreality to suit their whims. Nonreality is, simply put, pure energy - neither negative nor positive, it is difficult to comprehend how Nonreality exists. Technically, it's not real - thus the name Nonreality - but it's still something tangible. Nonreality has the power to alter and warp reality, and is considered both dangerous and volatile. Most are strictly against tinkering with it, except recently Nonreality has been tapped as an energy source, and is being monopolized by members of Memra. Nonreality can also collect in areas and cause supernatural disturbances - for instance, Neshamas appearing without human hosts, and far more powerful than anything a human could have Pulled.

Neshama - A Neshama is a being composed of a combination of Nonreality, spiritual energy, and anything it can absorb from its host's mind. They tend to prefer absorbing things such as phobias, nightmares, and their host's flaws. These flaws and phobias are then manifest in a vaguely humanoid being which the host may then control using his or her mind. To make a Neshama appear, the future host must first be cleansed in a ritual called "River of Light" and then the Neshama must be Pulled from the body by an Ibbur. However, not everyone can have a Neshama Pulled from their bodies. Most humans have too little Nonreality, not enough control of Nonreality, or a combination of both. Some Ibburs can sense the potential in some humans and will then perform the Pulling process on them. Also, scientists under Memra's commission have recently devised a method of testing what they have termed "Nonreality Potential Flux" and determining precisely the amount of power an individual's Neshama may attain. However, there is currently no official way of testing an individual's ability to control Neshama and Nonreality. There is also no other method to bring the Neshama out aside from Pulling.

Neshama are exploited by certain groups for amusement - Neshama fighting, for instance, is extremely popular in Memra, and the members often gamble on the fights. However, groups such as Tourbillon have recently started looking into using Neshama for terrorist actions and - possibly, if it comes to that - war. Of course, Neshama fighting is not unknown to Tourbillon either. In fact, rumors have been floating around about an unofficial Memra/Tourbillon tournament, hosted by President Ezzat himself.

Pulling - The only known method for removing a Neshama from its human host and making it manifest itself in the real world. Since a Neshama is a Nonreal being, its presence in the real world often goes unnoticed, even by its human host. However, Pulling creates a bridge between Nonreality and Reality, which allows the Neshama to cross over and truly exist. Finding an Ibbur itself is difficult; it is said that only about thirty of them exist in the world and only about ten are actively Pulling Neshama. Known Ibburs are Anwar Ezzat of Memra and Dumah Bartimeus of Tourbillon, although a few other underground Neshama groups with their own User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Ibburs do exist, just not in London and with not as much publicity. If you are a human host, a Neshama must be Pulled from you the first few times before you figure out how to summon it on your own. It's a painful process, since the host is ripping away a part of his subconscious and making it real, but once the Neshama exits the body the host may experience a pleasant feeling of numbness, or possibly even fall unconscious. Even if the host does fall unconscious, he is able to see through the eyes of the Neshama and still control it; however, if the Neshama is more powerful than the unconscious host or if the host is too weak to control it, it is possible for the Neshama to act on its own.

Memra - A group consisting of wealthy, powerful men and women with similar interests; namely, the suffering of the non-wealthy and the non-powerful. They are extremely influential in the World Government - in fact, many members of Memra are indeed politicians - and thus are always managing to somehow make the government vote in their favor. The president of Memra is Anwar Ezzat, an Egyptian noble with a somewhat unsettling obsession with blades. President Ezzat is also Memra's Ibbur, which makes him extremely popular with most Memra members. Nearly every member of Memra possesses a Neshama, many of which are extremely powerful. President Ezzat's Neshama is particularly celebrated for its undefeated record.

Tourbillon - An underground organization that is determined to destroy Memra and control the government in favor of the poor - or so they claim. Truth be told, the true motives behind Tourbillon are unknown, and are well protected by its leader Dumah Bartimeus. Bartimeus is surprisingly young, and it is often stated that he is "Not what people expected." but Bartimeus controls Tourbillon effectively, and thus far his leadership has gone unchallenged. Tourbillon has remained relatively dormant in its terrorist activities until recently, when a failed attempt at bombing a Memra meeting was met with subsequent arrests. Bartimeus managed to escape being apprehended, but many of Tourbillon's members and even a few officials were taken, leaving the group very vulnerable. Many members of Tourbillon possess a Neshama, but not as many members as Memra can boast. However, Bartimeus does claim to have a Neshama more powerful than anything Memra has, much to the group's annoyance.

The World Government - On the Tohuvian Earth, every continent - North America, Europe, Australia, etc. - is governed by an international legislature known only as "The World Government." Its headquarters are, incidentally, located in London, and it is led by the aging President Gehenna. Recently, the World Government has been losing its power, either by suffering from assassination attempts (some of which were allegedly orchestrated by Tourbillon) or bending to the wills of Memra members. Many are concerned that the World Government will fall and Memra will instate itself as the new governing body, but this will probably not happen in the foreseeable future. The World Government also has its own military force, created from units all over the planet, which is well-known for establishing military dictatorships in "uppity" countries.

World War III/IV - WWIII took place about 100 years ago (between the dates of 2310-2314 to be exact), and while its impact is hardly felt at this date, it is still important to know. Essentially, it was during WWIII that most of the global superpowers at the time (England, Russia, China, Japan, and the US being the top) fell from grace. Those in power were removed by the end of the war and new leaders were set up who were deadset on benefitting the middle class. For about eighty years these governments remained in power, and the middle class remained stable and happy. Since the upper-class had been all but destroyed in scandals after the war, there was no upper rung of society - for a time. Eventually, certain middle-class individuals became a bit too powerful and rich enough to form the upper-class which had been missing for so long, and these individuals met secretly to plan for the destruction of the middle classes so that they could gain full power (a sort of proto-Memra, you could say.) By planting evidence and telling dirty little lies to the media, the government, and the middle class themselves, these influential individuals were able to start a fourth world war between practically every single country on Earth, where hopefully all the power the middle class held would be destroyed. Well, many members of the middle class perished in the ensuing bombings, or went to war and were killed. Meanwhile, the rich only got richer from war profiteering, and more men and women joined their ranks - including some of the previously scandalized "old wealth." Eventually, after seven years of conflict (2394-2401) a treaty was created and signed - but the once blossoming middle class was in complete ruins, along with most cities, homes, and the government themselves. Unsure as to what they should do, the governments gave power to wealthy and all but fled; and the wealthy installed a new government entitled "The World Government" which was supposed to end all war and strife. Sadly, the World Government served as nothing but a puppet for the wealthy to control, whether by gaining political power and influence, or other methods. Properly crushed, the middle class migrated into the destroyed cities and still remains there, to this day.

(Note: WWIV occured only thirteen years ago, meaning its effects should STILL be felt by most. Whether it's the loss of a parent or a livelihood to bombing, your character should, in some way, be effected by this war.)

First Stage: The first stage has no official name, its simply a portrait of your character. This portrait will not change throughout the stages and should be used to reference your characters appearance. As of this stage, your character has not had his or her Neshama Pulled from their body, but you can expect it to happen fairly soon. Use this time to get used to your character and introduce he or she into the world of Tohu, and determine where their true allegiances lie. This stage will greatly influence the appearance, personality, and powers of your Neshama, so I suggest you remember that even the smallest things your character does might have some sort of impact.

*IMAGE HERE*8D

Second Stage: Your Neshama has finally been Pulled and has manifested itself. At this stage, the Neshama is referred to as a Gilgul - the weaker stage of a Neshama. Some Neshama will be more powerful than others, but for the most part their traits are fairly realized and they are on a fairly even level, and the Neshama is capable of battle. As your character uses its Neshama more and more, the Neshama will gradually grow stronger and will learn new abilities - however, this does not necessarily guarantee that it will progress to stage three. Also, please note that while each Neshama will look completely different, the applicant itself will have no part in the design process, save the RP done in the first stage.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Third Stage: Your Neshama has ascended to its most powerful form, called Dybbuk. In this form, your Neshama is among the most powerful known to man, and will have unlocked its full potential and abilities. It is also possible that the Neshama is powerful enough to drive your character mad, but this will depend on RP. Your Neshamas physical and mental traits have become fully realized, and it even may sometimes act on its own. Remember: not everyone will reach this stage. It is not guaranteed. Only through serious RP commitment and hard work will your Neshama be considered for a Dybbuk ascension. To become a candidate for Dybbuk ascension, you must first ask the GMs (that would be NJ and myself, ^^) and give examples of why you feel your Neshama should be allowed to ascend (see Applications post). If we feel it is ready, we will assign a quest; or, if you have completed enough RP, we may just ascend it sans quest. However, if we feel it isnt ready, your application will be rejected. But dont be disheartened! Youre welcome to apply as many times as you like, so long as its within reason.

General Rules:

1 :: Do not steal any of the artwork, graphics, characters, or concepts. Anyone who breaks this rule will be met with swift retribution, I assure you. It will not be pretty.
2 :: Send all PMs to the account Dumah Bartimeus (this account.) Please do not spam the GMs boxes with PMs, send them to this account. Please dont send unsolicited PMs, or PMs asking for information clearly stated on the front page, as you will run the risk of being blacklisted.
3 :: Respect everyone in the thread. I know this rule may be hard to follow, but please to treat everyone with respect and perhaps even kindness? This means no being a sore loser, no gloating, and please no flame wars. Wed like to run a happy shop people! Happy!
4 :: Co-owning is not allowed. Thats the long and short of it, dearie.
5 :: The GMs word is final. What we say goes. Do not argue with it. Complain as much as you like outside the thread, but as far as our decisions go, please keep your opinions to yourself. If you have a SERIOUS problem with a decision made, PM the account, but keep it out of the thread.
6 :: You may only own ONE Tohuvian and Neshama at a time. Once your Neshama is full grown, you are welcome to try for another Tohuvian/Neshama in auctions, but you may only win one Tohuvian/Neshama from a flatsale.
7 :: Rules subject to changes, additions, or subtractions.

RP Rules:

1 :: Please try to stay in character. This the most important RP rule of all. Please, please, PLEASE try to stay in character. Were trusting you with this here. But this is a game that depends a lot on the actions of the characters, and you would make everyones lives much easier by sticking to the personality specs. Were letting you customize your character entirely, so the least you can do is stay in character. Essentially, everyone gets three strikes. If we find you being grossly OOC three times, your character will be removed, as will you. You will get warnings, dont worry, its not going to be some sort of secret tab. Were going to be pretty lenient on RP, but this rule will be strictly enforced.
2 :: Please do not god-mode. This is the second most important rule in RP. We realize that with characters such as Neshama, it may be very tempting to god-mode and give your Neshama amazing powers, but we will determine the abilities and stats of your Neshama. Please try to adhere to these stats and abilities - they are there for a reason. Thank you very much. Again, you only get three strikes.
3 :: Please respect pre-established facts. An example of a pre-established fact is that a Neshama cannot be initially Pulled without the assistance of a professional. Or, another example, do not pretend that your character can suddenly become said professional, especially since they are supposed to be so rare. The GMs have tried to make this RP as open to interpretation and expansive as possible, but we are going to need your co-operation.
4 :: Anwar Ezzat and Dumah Bartimeus are your masters. No, seriously. If your Tohuvian is a member of Memra and President Ezzat tells your character to shave his or her head bald, you listen. Unless thatd be OOC, then you can RP your defiance or something. I think you get the idea, XD. Either way, your character will inevitably be an underling. Please dont assume too much power, okay?
5 :: No RP is to take place on Gaia. Gaia is another dimension. It does not exist. Your avatar/character? Does not exist. Your other pets? Do not exist. Tohu is completely separate from Gaia. Do NOT mix the two up.
6 :: To keep your Tohuvian and Neshama, you need only RP once a month. However, do not expect to get to the third stage - or even the second - if you only fulfill the bare minimum of RP requirements. We understand that real life takes precedent over everything - trust me, we REALLY do - but we need to see a certain level of RPing before were willing to grow your pet. If you can only fulfill the minimum, your pet still may have a chance of growing, it may just take way longer than RPing more often. Hiatuses are obviously permitted, just please PM the account telling us youre going away. If you are going to hiatus for over 6 months, please give your Tohuvian and Neshama to the shop so that we may give it to an owner who can be around more often.
7 :: You do not need to keep a journal. YAY! Heh. No, really, you dont need a journal. If you would LIKE to keep one, I will happily prepare one for you, but the GMs are under no obligation to read it, and you arent likely to gain anything from keeping a journal. However, I would suggest keeping one if only to have a place to post AIM RPs or anything of the sort. You will not get in trouble for not updating your journal, dont worry. If you decide to make one, update it whenever you want. So long as you fulfill the once a month RP requirement somehow (and this does include diary entries, if you are so inclined) then we are more than happy to oblige you.

Flatsale Rules:

1 :: We will be accepting character applications for a week. No more than a week, no less. Please PM all applications to this account, and use the application form on the Application post.
2 :: The specific writing sample questions asked for each flatsale will change. So while you can, technically, predesign a character using the application, the writing samples will be different each time, meaning you cant be perfectly prepared.
3 :: Yes, the characters are full custom. You lucky bastards, XD. Feel free to specify as little or as much as you want in the appearance section - however, we expect both the personality and history sections to be properly addressed and filled out.
4 :: We determine all aspects of your Neshama. Sorry, but thats the way it works. Were sorry if your Neshama doesnt come out how you wanted it to, but since you get full customization on the character, we feel its an equal trade.
5 :: If your character is won via flatsale, they cannot be a character of rank. Characters of rank are reserved for auctions. However, that does NOT mean your character cant be extremely pivotal to RP. Trust me, Dumah is more likely to listen to his underlings than any of his advisors.
6 :: Again, you can only win one flatsale. Even if your Tohuvian and Neshama are full-grown, you cant win another flatsale. Sorry.

Auction Rules:

1 :: Each auction will begin with a bid of 35K. I know. Its expensive, Im sorry. But this is amazing art were talking about here, with the possibility of up to three unique images, and if it goes for anything less than 35K I feel its a crime against the artist.
2 :: Please dont intimdiate or discourage other bidders. Dont boast about your great wealth or throw a pity fest. Do not cheer other bidders on in the thread. Do not be a sore loser if you lose or a rude winner if you win. Respect people.
3 :: The auction will continue for twenty-four hours after the last bid. There is no set end date, just once the bidding stops for twenty-four hours.
4 :: You may NOT withdraw your bid. Nor can you substitute one item for another. You bid what do you bid, do not try to change it.
5 :: Please calculate your own bid. As of right now, we would appreciate it if you used Lucky Devil, since it seems to be the only available price guide, but if the GCG ever returns and is updated, well probably switch to that, ^^. Mid-Lucky Devil, please.
6 :: Please respect other bidders. Do not get rude. If you do, you will be blacklisted.
7 :: Your character still must be approved by the GMs before you officially become an owner. You still have won the auction, mind you, were not going to take that away. But if we feel your character requires work, we will work with you on it until it becomes something we feel is right for the RP, and something that you will enjoy.
8 :: Auction characters will be people of rank. Mind you, they wont be Presidents or anything, but they will be higher up on the hiearchy than others. This means you can order people to get you coffee. Hurhur. But please keep in mind that, to quote the famous line, With great power comes great responsibility. You may have to be involved with metaplot workings, although if you would rather not, we understand. Just please know that you may have to put in a little bit extra. The good news is you dont have to do the writing sample!
9 :: Rules from the thread still apply.

Favorite Thing: Anything with cheese melted on it.
Dislikes: Being proven wrong.

Quick bio: Overidealistic to a fault, Dumah is the young,
charismatic leader of Tourbillon, and its sole founder.
Despite his friendly nature, Dumah keeps mostly to
himself, and very few can claim to actually understand
his methods and motives. He's effervescent to the
point of being ridiculous and rarely ever seems to
take things seriously, though it is often difficult to tell

Dumah enjoys collecting stamps, chips shaped like

FAQ
Q. Is Tohu at a contemporary place and time as our Earth? I know that WWII has happened, so did they develop much the same way that we have or are there major differences?

A. Tohu takes place in the year 2414, and thus they are greatly past our own time frame, XD. The years 2000-2300 for the most part were uninteresting, save for some leaps in medical science: a cure for the common cold was found, a cure for AIDs, and a less painful cure for diabetes. Before that, the developmental timeline was very similar to Earth's. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. Harriet Tubman freed slaves through the Underground Railroad. The Qin dynasty did exist. Truth be known, the presence of Neshama wasn't discovered until recently. Some say that the presence of Nonreality at all hadn't affected Tohu until WW III. So it wasn't until about, say, 2300 that things began to differ from Earth's own timeline. Hopefully that makes sense, XD.

Q. For instance, guns have gone to the way side and swords and knives are the en vogue fighting apparel... or some advanced technology has replaced both.

A. Anwar loves his blades and Dumah his antique guns, but no, the antiques aren't back in style, XD. Advanced technology is now the main way to fight a war, but there isn't a huge war going on at present: just a bunch of rich guys getting harassed by the disgruntled poor. Mechanisms such as plastic explosives are used and the atom bomb still exists, and most guns still shoot bullets, but some of the wealthier members of Memra might be able to get their hands on more modern technology and weaponry. As to what that weaponry is my brain has yet to decide, as I'm not very good at this sort of thing, XD.

Q. Is cloning possible? How advanced is their technology? Which parts of the technology have seen the most advancement? What do the Memra invest in, besides annoying the poor?

A. Like Earth, cloning is possible, but is not often used. Their technology has surpassed ours overall, but not by much. Think of it like dial-up VS. DSL. They both do the same thing, but one (generally, *glares at her net*) does it faster and more effectively. The Memra invest in whatever you tell them to, they're your characters. The only qualification you need to fulfill before entering Memra is this: be rich. You don't even have to be a rich b*****d - it's just that the majority of them are. How you get rich is your own business.

Q. What kind of creatures exist? I will stop now, for fear of being obnoxious.

A. Oh, dogs, cats, horses, pigs, parrots, lizards, bacteria. Some species have been wiped out, sadly - the bald eagle, California condor, a bunch of plants in the rainforest (well, just the rainforest in general) - and most of the animals have had to adapt to living in dirty, nasty conditions. Where the stories take place there will probably not be much except some city birds and stray dogs and cats.

Q. I ask about weaponry because it is my opinion that in a war torn nation, as indeed it still is -- the war only being 13 years gone-- the people would have had to develop some kind of weapons proficiency or hide in a hole until everything was over. Also, since the poor are still be tormented, they would need to have some way to defend themselves.

A. I have no problem with you asking, XD. However, the poor are essentially defenseless. Those who sought to remove power from the middle class and to destroy them did so effectively. It is not until recently that the poor have been able to defend themselves - through groups such as Tourbillon - and attempt to win back some of their lost power. But that is one of the reasons Tourbillon is contemplating using Neshama as weapons, they can't afford anything really big.

Q. As a member of the Tourbillion, what weapons would be available? Would it be common place for the members to learn how to use shanks and common farm and household implements for protection? Are guns widely available and cheap? Would daggers be a more available weapon?

A. As a member of Tourbillon, you would, probably bring your own weapon. It's not a very organized organization as of yet, as it is still working out most of its kinks, and lacks funding for obvious reasons. In fact, word is the only reason it's survived thus far is due to some very under-the-table dealings between President Ezzat and Dumah himself, but those rumors have yet to be verified. Essentially, if you are a member of Tourb, you get what you contribute. The only weapon that Dumah himself can provide you with at the moment is your Neshama. Since the combat between Memra and Tourbillon has yet to be hand to hand combat - or, really, any combat at all besides one attempted bombing - it is safe to say that daggers will probably not be used. Would you like to use a garden spade to fight? Go right ahead. You'll probably be shot in a matter of seconds, but that's your choice, XD.

Q. Also, are the Memra and the Tourbillion opposites? Like if the Memra decided to give money to zoos, would the Tourbillion automatically become anti-zoo in protest?

A. They are not opposites, no. Tourbillon opposes Memra's oppression of the poor - essentially, them - and is attempting to fight back and gain power itself. It's political and very narrow-minded.

Q. How long did WWIV last?

A. Seven years.

Q. Have other diseases come to replace our century?s pandemics or is medicine such that disease is no longer an issue?

A. Disease is not as large a threat to Tohuvians as it is to us these days. Medicine has gotten to the point where even the poor can easily access it, and while cures haven't been found for everything, most things CAN be cured. It was briefly rumored that Memra was considering shutting down the medical facilities available to the poor, but the movement supporting it eventually died out, and the hospitals and pharmacies are still available.

Q. How was the Neshama discovered? Are all the characters made for this shop going to be able to be pulled from, since the info says some people can not be harvested?

A. Neshama discovery shall be discussed in general info, and it's fairly involved so I won't write here - just rest assured that it will be addressed, XD. And yes, all of them will be able to have a Neshama pulled. What that Neshama is like and how strong they are and how good their control is LARGELY depends on you, more than you would think.

Q. Are the jobs much the same as today, or because of the war and the destruction of the cities, have things reverted somewhat to simpler times? (i.e.: farmers, craftsmen, arms men, basic dnd occupations)

A. There are still scientists, and taxis, and grocers, and farmers, and bakers, and college professors, and English teachers for 11th graders. Tohu has managed to rebuild itself up to the point where it can function - even the wealthy helped in this, because it benefited them to. The government is simply set up so that the poor have very little say in legislative decisions, and since they are the majority, this obviously pisses them off. Certain careers probably signify that you are more likely to be in Memra than in Tourb: for instance, if you are a wealthy arms producer, you're not likely to belong in Tourb. But if you're something as simple as, say, a doctor, you will probably belong in Tourb. Hopefully that makes sense, o-O.

Q. How have the schools changed? Does the Tourbillion have separate schools from the Memra? Are the faculties different? Is it possible to get a good education as a member of the poor?

A. Most children whose parents belong to Memra attend private schools with other rich kids, whereas Tourb or poor children attend public schools. Don't get me wrong: not everybody with wealth is necessarily mean. There are some members of Memra who are trying to make it so both people like those in Tourb and people like those in Memra can co-exist. These philanthropists often fund public schooling, a fact that Tourb has chosen to overlook in demonizing Memra.

Q. Are the Memra and the Tourbillion well known, or are they something like celebrities to the average citizen? (Um, by this I mean do they live in the TV or newspapers and unless you are a member of that society, they don?t seem real.)

A. Anwar Ezzat is a fairly famous and easily recognizable figure. A lot of people in Memra are either rich celebrities or politicians, so they are often seen in newspapers and the like. A lot of poorer citizens don't even realize that some of them aren't all that nice and idolize them. As far as Tourb goes, well - it's the most famous of all the terrorist organizations, but aside from Dumah, they rarely make the papers. Obviously once the bombing failed and the members tried they graced the news and all that, but before that and for a while since, they've been lying low and trying to gather enough resources and people to strike at Memra.

Q. How severely was Tohu de-populated in the last WW? Was WW a genocide in a way? How many poeple live on Tohu now? Do large cities still have problems with overpopulation etc.? Also - how long is a Memra lifespan and how long is a poor shmuck's lifespan?

A. The population of Tohu was actually reaching a dangerous level. The sustainable yield of the planet was quickly being caught up with. To look at it from a more Malthusian perspective, the war was necessary, as it helped to cut down the population and preserve what few resources the planet had left. Essentially, a lot died. 40 million or there abouts, most from the middle class. Most cities have become severely underpopulated since then, though the population is gradually rebuilding itself and its cities. London is probably currently the most populous city on the entire planet.

Q. Have people done any kind of genetic manipulation on themselves? Like - are the Memra genetically altered to never gained weight, fart vanilla scented farts or change their gender on whim?

A. For the sake of making this game a lot easier on NJ and myself to plan and run, we're going to say no, XD. Or if they have, it's looked down upon and not practiced on humans. Humans are much the same as they are now, like you and me. Science has made significant advances, but probably most are too dangerous to pursue.

Q. Poverty is everywhere. Poverty leads to massive humanitarian abusee. Thus - is there slavery? Is there slave trading? To what extent? Can a Memra kill a poor sucker without any consequences? Can they pick people off the streats to rape and torture if they so desire? Is capital punishment an accepted concept? Is it performed publicly? Like - were the Tourbillion members who got caught publicly executed in a most spectacular way or hidden away somewhere?

A. In some of the poorer countries - those most ruined by the wars, such as Africa, South America, and some of the undedeveloped parts of Europe and Asia - slavery does exist, yes. Not to a large extent, however. It's probably kept quiet by the Memra who practice it, so it is unlikely that those in larger cities would be aware of it. Memra controls the media with an iron fist and doesn't let any unsavory details slip out. Can a Memra kill off a regular person? Yep. There might be consequences - for instance, a fifty dollar fine - and the person would receive a slap on the wrist and be off. It's mostly just for show. The Memra also have significant influence over the judicial system. However, does that mean Memra just go out and hunt regular people for sport? No. There are far more impoverished folks than there are rich, and that would only incite further rebellion. Besides, not everyone who belongs to Memra is a jerk. As previously mentioned, some are quite the philanthropist. Capital punishment is accepted, but applies only to the poorer classes - and yes, they were executed publically. Firing squad.

Q. What about religion? What religions still prevail on Tohu? Are Memra actively trying to make themselves appear Divine? It is far easier to control the masses if you are the ruler ordained by God, you know? Or is it too early yet for such manipulations?

A. Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism are probably still practiced by people, should they so choose. Some cults have sprung up, but I'll leave those to you folks to speculate over and create, if you are so inclinded. The Memra do not pretend to be gods or anything of the sort, nor do they try to present a divine image. In the future perhaps, but as of right now they stick to just being rich and powerful.

Q. When a Neshama has been pulled will its human be able to talk or else somehow communicate with it? can Neshama talk among one another and can a Neshama talk to people besides its host? Will Neshama be rp'd as a separate character essentially once pulled? Also can Neshama and their hosts feel what the other feels as they are part of one another?

A. The Neshama instinctively knows and feels what its host knows and feels. The host need only think a command and, if their control over Nonreality is developed enough, the Neshama should obey. Neshama cannot communicate verbally - some might not even possess mouths - and do not talk to one another, but provided they have the facilities they may make noises. They're not really a big deal, though, just kinda grunts or moans. They technically are a separate character, but realize that Neshama aren't out and about all the time, nor do they exhibit strong personality traits aside from those they feed off of. For the most part they are isolated beings, almost mindless, who feed off the host but in turn obey their commands. There may be more to the relationship than that, but research hasn't gotten that far.

Q. Can your character have an outlandish color say like pink, violet or green.. things of that nature? And if so do we have to state their hair is dyed to make it believable or can they be born with that?

A. After much deliberation, I'm going to say yes, it's all right - you CAN have outlandish hair colors. And they can be natural. My suggestion is, however, that you just state they are dyed, just to make my inner little "IT'S NOT REALISTIC, D: " demon shut up. It won't really make a difference either way, XD. But yes, send us your green-haired, mullet-bearing people! Really, just keep wings, horns, tails, etc. out of it. Please god. ;_;.

Q. If our character belongs to Memra, do they have to be snooty? Or, if our character belongs to Tourbillon, do they have to be extreme anarchists?

A. No, no, a thousand times NO! Not everyone in Memra is a stuck up rich person. Rich yes, stuck up - not necessarily. Please don't assume that. Likewise, please don't assume that everyone in Tourb is an insane left-wing extremist. They're just normal people who are desperate, not all of them necessarily don't want any government or to overthrow it at all, they just want more reprsentation. Please, please bear that in mind.

This shall be the home of random notes I make, probably more artistic in nature, that pertain to those interested in the shop! These might be random insights into the overall design of Tohu, or tips and suggestions when designing your characters,...or whatever the hell I feel like putting in here really. X3 You have been warned!

These may be updated at any time. Basically whenever I think of some other spiffy or otherwise useful information to include. biggrin

:: Purpose ::

We had a lot of ideas for Tohu, and there is a ton of stuff we want to do. But here's a quick list of what we didn't want.

[x] Not knowing the character you win in a flatsale. Wtf. Why? More often than not, people got stuck with a character they weren't used to playing. It only seems logical to let people choose what they LIKE to play and are good at. Thus, Tohuvians are completely customizable.

[x] No Plot Direction. No more of the "What to do today? I'll go to the lab and see if anyone's there!" It's hard to move along RP and characters with nothing pushing them forward. Tohu will have anything BUT dull moments. We've created a VERY tense and kinetic setting so that RP will flow naturally, even without principals or events driving the RP. There will never be a dull moment.

[x] Kid stages. Honestly, who wants to RP a bunch of toddlers? Yes, the images and thought is freakishly cute, but we know what we're all looking forward to. There's no reason to beat around the bush and take months to get shop RP into full swing -- you start Tohu with 'adults.' We're going to hit the ground running.

[x] Happy, bubbly theme. Yes, we've done the happy and bubbly. It's time for something a little darker, folks. >:3 Yes that means terrorist organizations and spiritual seperation that could drive you mad. Now there's something to spice up RP!

:: General ::

- Tohu's technology is slightly more advanced than ours.

:: Memra ::

- Shirt and tie sort of people. They generally dress more uptight, and while Tohu has a different sense of fashion than our world, their outfits are usually formal in nature and are made of expensive materials.
- While their dress is more 'elegant,' it is by no means boring. A simple coat and tie simply do not exist in this world. In an age where the best clothing is not mass produced but commissioned and tailored specifically, every outfit is unique.
- Both females and males dress to impress, and both sexes can spend an equal amount of time getting prepared for the day.

:: Tourbillon ::
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
- Can consist of any class. However, most come from whats similar to our middle class. If your character is rich and well dressed, he may belong in Memra.
- While their dress is based off of our middle class dress, their fashions are slightly different! So I may alter their clothing just slightly to embellish the difference. I wont stray far from your design though!!
