5-27-05-Remaking thread due to [Message temporarily offline] glitch.

[1] No begging, whining, threatening, etc. to obtain an Emerald or cause a disturbance in the thread. Please, it's childish and annoying and will get you nowhere.
[2] Absolutely no stealing anybody's Emerald or Emerald City art. Sayuri, SSJ, and I have worked hard on each individual Emerald. You will be reported directly to the mods. Art theft is a bannable offense, and don't think we'll be nice for it.
[3] Roleplaying is mandatory! Don't expect to obtain your Emerald and then wander off afterwords. You must post at a MINIMUM of once every other month. That is the bare minimum. Please visit the thread, chat, hangout, and RP!
[4] Please do not PM any current/future guardians asking to co-own, sell, or have their Emerald. The answer will always be no, so just don't ask.
[5] If you don't like the shop, the concept, etc. then please don't bring it to my attention. That's great, good for you, now leave. If you post in the thread, then you obviously like the shop.
[6] DO NOT PM Sayuri, SSJ, or Babs! Send any and all donations/PMs/mailing list requests to THIS ACCOUNT!
[7] Babs has the right to take away/suspend the journal or Emerald of a guardian. If you have been neglecting your Emerald or have caused a severe disturbance, I have the ability to do this.
[8] Be literate. No n00b, net, |337, or chatspeak.
[9] Breaking any one of these rules will result in a permanent blacklisting. Enough said.
[10] READ THE FRONT PAGE! I can guarantee that any information you will need will be on the front page somewhere. Read before you ask.

The Legend of the Ruby Slippers
By Spores

Have you ever heard of a splendid pair of Ruby slippers? Well, they go back quite a few years. Let me tell you the story of the Ruby Slippers, and what they have to do with the Emerald City today...

Once upon a time, in the most exquisite castle in the whole of Oz, there lived a narcissistic Queen. This girl was the most beautiful girl you have ever seen. With blonde ringlets that cascaded to the nape of her back, and watery blue eyes that twinkled like the night sky, nobody dared question her position as the most beautiful girl alive. The Queen's olive-skinned complexion was the envy of young women everywhere; and don't even get me started on her dresses.

Despite the woman's immense beauty, many people questioned her personality. Although the men were hypnotised by her looks - and envied the King with all their hearts - the women remained immune to her charm. They questioned her being, and wondered if she actually cared about them. Word eventually leaked that the villagers of Oz were thinking of electing a new Queen, so the present one felt like she had to do a good deed to repay them, and change the people's minds.

Hastily, she ordered for the King's messengers to send out invitations to everybody who lived in Oz, inviting them to a splendid ball. This ball was set to be a fortnight from the night the invitations were given out, leaving the royalty enough time to make preparations.

However, the night of the party came, and the Queen was without a good pair of shoes. Desperately, she pleaded every tailor in the whole of Oz, hoping that one of them would present her with the shoes she needed to retain her perfect reputation, clothes-wise.

Her luck was found in the most unexpected place - a bedraggled youth sat on a street corner, her clothes horridly torn as though she had been attacked several times by a dog. Her hair was tousled and coloured a mousy brown, her eyes a dim grey. In her hands, she held a stunning pair of slippers.

The slippers sparkled in the sunlight, encrusted with the most charming rubies one could dream of. Instantly, the Queen fell in love and hastily asked the youth for the price.
"How much for the slippers?" she asked, stamping one foot impatiently. Diving one hand into her pocket, she pulled out a bag of golden coins. The Queen was prepared to pay whatever it took to get these slippers.
The beggar named an incredibly over-expensive price, but in her desperation, the Queen paid it. As the bag of gold coins spilt onto the girl's lap, she watched the Queen hurry down the street and back towards the palace, her warning going unheard.

"Be warned," the beggar mumbled helplessly. "The Ruby slippers bear a terrible curse.."
But it was too late. The Queen had already disappeared around the corner.

Later that evening, as the Queen retired to her chambers after the party had ended, she sat on the edge of her four-poster bed and attempted to remove the beautiful slippers. No matter how hard she tugged, she could not manage to remove them from her feet.

Panicking, she turned to the nearest maid.
"Help me remove these slippers," she demanded. "I cannot get them off!"
Together, the maid and queen pulled at her slippers, but they remained stuck to her feet. With a great urgency, she called for the local Good Witch.

But the Good Witch could not help her.

---------

Meanwhile, an innocent girl by the name of Dorothy had landed in Oz, after arriving courtesy of a strange tornado. Several days after she had arrived, she had heard from a nearby group of munchkins that the Queen was having some difficulty removing her slippers, and that whoever removed them from her feet would get a great reward.

Dorothy was a very generous girl, and wished nothing in return. She wanted to help this queen, and along the way, bumped into several strange characters. Although her quest had originally been to see the Wizard of Oz, she felt like helping another was much more important than her going home, and hastily travelled to the palace.

A tin man, cowardly lion and a ditzy scarecrow accompanied Dorothy. They had met previously, when she had begun to walk along the yellow brick road. Now, a strange munchkin joined her, and together they entered the marvellous gates and walked towards the queen.

The queen looked far from elegant, but Dorothy gently tugged at the slippers on her feet and they came off in her hands. Delighted, the queen hugged her shamelessly and immediately asked her what it was she desired. Glancing around at her friends, she placed the ruby slippers upon the carpet.

"I wish that my friends and I may continue to live in Oz after we die," she requested solemnly. The queen looked astounded, never having heard of a wish like that before. Glancing towards the good witch who loyally served her, the good witch gave her a kindly smile.

"I can help with that," she replied. And with a wave of her wand, the spell was cast.

---------

That's where you step in. These are the offspring of Dorothy's wish, and they cannot make it alone. These babies require a lot of love and attention, and special care is needed to cater for their own unique needs. No two babies are the same, and you may find that if you do not care for your child, they will leave you.

There are many beings in the land of Oz.

Munchkins - the most abundant of all the species in Oz.

Skin: Can be a variety of colors, but tends to be on the paler side.
Eyes: Generally blue or green, other colors are rare.
Hair: Much like humans, Munchkin hair can be all sorts of types and colors; from curly to straight to wavy and brown to blonde to red.
Average height: 2'-4'
Appearance: Chubby and short, basically. They tend to waddle when the walk and aren't the most attractive of beings.
Clothing: Munchkins LOVE color. They are rarely seen in neutral-type colors. They generally wear a kind of overall, with stockings and buckle shoes. The males also wear caps, and females usually wear their hair down with a small ribbon headband.

Hair: Any types, any colors of brown, blonde, or red.
Average height: 4'5"-6'5"

Clothing: Humans enjoy making their own choices, and wear whatever they want. Again, it depends on culture. Some may like baggy clothing, some tight, revealing clothing, dresses, pants, etc.

Witches - also a rare species. There tends to be only five main witches: of the West, East, North, and the South. Wizards are the male equivalent, and only one exists as of this time period.

Skin: Pale when younger. If they are a bad witch, their skin is green when older. If a good witch, then their skin stays the same color.
Eyes: Blue or brown
Hair: Brown or red
Average height: 5'-7'
Appearance: Can appear very menacing and evil, or sweet and joyful. Bad witches enjoy torturing and playing with the minds of others, while the good witch helps them, and does good deeds.
Clothing: Bad witches wear long, black robes and a witch's hat. They usually have long, pointed shoes, and of course - a broomstick. It's not unusual to see them with some sort of animal, either, such as a cat or...flying monkey? Good witches wear long, flowing dresses that are a variety of colors. They also have a wand, and travel in bubbles rather than brooms.

Any pet trade inquiries may be sent via PM to this account. Unless otherwise noted, pet trades will be drawn by Babs. ONLY shops listed below may have art drawn by Sayuri. Have a question? Ask it!

Is each Emerald different?
Yes. Each child is unique and has different lineart.

Is the Emerald City based on the book by Gregory Maguire?
It's actually based on it's own concept, which is told in the story.
Basically, there was a very powerful queen, who got these beautiful ruby slippers for a party at her castle, but then she couldn't get them off. She sent out looking for people to help her get them off, also offering one wish as a reward.
Dorothy came along and slipped the shoes right off, and as her wish, she wished that when she left Oz, her and her friends would still live on.
And so The Emeralds are the children that were created out of Dorothy's wish. Besides the few cosplays, they are totally unique and are "the children of Oz."

How much are they?
8k in flatsales.

I always thought it was just the Wizard of Oz story.
Well it is, just told in a different manner. It's the concept of Oz, how Dorothy got there, met her friends, etc. The whole "yellow brick road" and "off to see the wizard" scenes have already taken place, and this wish was cast right before she left for home.

So do we RP in Oz, or in Gaia?
You should RP your Emerald wherever the guardian lives, occasionally making stops in Oz to visit. If you would like, we can set up a date for the Wizard brings the child from Oz to Gaia, or you may figure out a way to do it yourself. Either way, the child starts in Oz and needs to make it to Gaia.

I'm your friend. Can I have one for free?
Nope, sorry. No amount of begging will get you one for free. Bribing, however.....

So what exactly is an Emerald?
Emeralds are the result of Dorothy's wish. Through a teleportation system, we have been able to reach Oz from Gaia. The children are given to their guardians, where they are raised in Oz until an adult, and then may decide which realm they would like to live in.

What is a quest?
Quests are given at the child stage. They are mainly to find what your child's alignment is. Once the quest, whatever it may be, is finished, your child will grow to a teen. Any characteristics or items found/given during the quest will be added in as a teen. At this point, another teen quest is given for an item. For example, a bad witch would go on a quest for a broom, while a good witch would go on a quest for a wand. Get it?
