Recently, the amount of spam threads in both the GCD and GD have become staggering, or failing that, threads that people simply enter to flame. Although this isn't as obvious in the GCD, as a GD lurker and sometime contributor, I am shocked at the amount of spam and hostility that abounds in there. Some people seem to have created accounts to simply enter a thread, say something witty or hurtful, and leave quickly, which isn't what the GD is about. Thankfully this trend hasn't carried over to the GCD as of yet, but the spam certainly has. I awoke this morning to find the entire front page filled with topics of little or no meaning, and some that were simply Chatterbox material.
This, however, isn't the problem. The problem is people flaming the new people or spammers and not giving them proper instructions. Telling someone that they are stupid is NOT a substitute. It is utterly important to link them to another forum and try to help them first, although there is always a possibility that they won't listen, and then, and only then, should you become angry, or just simply leave and report the topic. Flaming is something that should not be used carelessly, and only as a last resort, if used at all.
The whole point of the Be Nice Bible is to form a standard location for people that are willing to help keep the GCD a nice place to post and exist in.
