The Time Between Changes in the Avatar Spotlight
We think that the admins need to set some time specifically to updating the Avatar Spotlight. (just like they do for any other section Gaia) A definite semi-weekly or monthly change would be preferred. They can get the monthly donation items out on time, why not the Avatar Spotlight?
The Appearance of a Half-Fast Choosing of Avatars
To me, it looks like the admin(s) just pick a random thread and point their finger at the first fully clothed avatar and choose that one. We see a recuring theme in a lot of the Avatar Spotlights. We see a lot of Devil Tails, there needs to be more variety in the final choices. Perhaps different categories for the Avatar Spotlight?
The Power that Users used to have in this matter is gone
At the beginning, when there were very few members, the admins picked the avatar by hand. As more members joined up, they lost track of being able to fairly pick one from the thousands to look through, so they added a 'Voting System' that us users got to use to help influence the admin's decision the choices for the Avatar Spotlight. How much influence this had on the admin's choice is unknown, but shortly after it's introduction, the 'Voting System' was removed. Perhaps there were way too many bugs that they didn't want to deal with, or maybe there were too many other things of a higher priority that needed to be taken care of before that worked. We'll never know. We would like to see an upgraded version of this 'Voting System' so that us users can have at least some say in who gets to be in the Avatar Spotlight.
The Avatar Arena?
Maybe the Avatar Spotlight could be chosen monthly by a system I've brainstormed known as "The Avatar Arena." It would be similar in design and operation to the current Art Arena. You can either get nominated or pay an entry fee to get into the contest. From there, just like the Art Arena, you get voted on by countless Gaians. There are a couple kinks in this idea, but I'm sure if the admins thought it a good idea, they could fix those kinda things.
