Hawick.
Some people are familiar with the town; others aren't.
It is, for the uninformed, a small British town, but not just any small British town. Here, indications of magic intensity form a low throb throughout the quaint paved streets, and no matter how quiescent the villagers are, it is never entirely peaceful in Hawick; there is always the vague, unspoken suggestion that distantly, something is blowing up.
In town, there is a house. It is a small, rather unassuming house, of questionable decoration and elder year; its eaves are rather uncertain at this point, threatening at any given time to fall down around the ears of the occupants, but said individuals haven't seemed to take much notice. One might think the place was abandoned, if it wasn't for the flourishing garden out front, or the fact that sometimes --
-- and just sometimes, if you peer over the fence at just the right time of day, you might catch a glimpse of something not entirely human -- something tall with long, pointed ears -- silhouetted in the harsh, golden rays of sunset, sitting at a table and looking out over the rooftops, or bursts of magic, or slanting luminescence colors the sun has never dreamt of.
Here, there is magic.

Sitara Nairi is a mysterious, enigmatic young lady. The odd dab of orange paint on her forehead is most definitely foreign, and it as well as her strange clothing suggests that her background is most certainly not British -- many guesses have been made, and the favored contenders are either Hindu or Indian, although she has told no one for certain. Her culture remains a mystery.
Since her arrival, Sitara has shown an overwhelming interest in various foods, including toast and jam, roasted cheese bread, and fresh carrots (which she shares, albeit grudgingly, with her pet rabbit, Bindre), but very little interest in anything else, except, perhaps, her wand, which she fingers and toys with at any given opportunity, or her collection of books.
She is a very talkative sort of girl, so please! Take caution when approaching her, unless you'd like your ear chattered off. (A Personal Request, made for your safety, by Ameko. He is considering making a sign saying such and posting it on the front door, but he is rather afraid of what Sitara herself would think, and whether or not she would hit him.)
<center>
The folkloric attributes to the woods of Sitara's wand are as follows.</center>
Yew was once considered sacred to Mercury, patron of Thieves, Poets, and Seers. Also known as Islaar, he was an inspirer of wit and eloquence, his spirit presiding over intellect, fine thought, communication, incantation, and runes. Yew is beneficial to many classes of spells, including illusion and transfiguration, as well as many "darker" persuasions, such as necromancy and astral travel.
Rowan is also known as Witchbane, for its properties of protection against evil witchery. It is sacred to Capricorn, for its powers of bestowing and enhancing life, and was once considered to be able to bring about peace and deflect storms and lightning, all while lending astral vision and protection. Rowan is often associated with Poets and Muses, a concept branching from the songbirds' fondness for its berries.

</center>
Except for a few rickety pieces of furniture, almost all of Sitara's possessions are magical, or -- at the very least -- magically inclined...
...except, perhaps, for her pet rabbit, Bindre, who has shown no peculiar talents. Save an astonishing tendency to devour carrots whole right before your very eyes.
Sitara also owns Candles, in varying shades of grey, which she uses (quite cleverly) to light her room. Or the kitchen. Or the living room. Wherever she happens to be at the time, light is a good thing to have.
Potion Bottles, hidden in a closet until Sitara decides she can stand potion-making and Ameko has released his fervently-tended hopes that his house will survive her tutelege intact. Foolish foxman, safety is for ordinary people!
Quill and Parchment, for writing. Things. To people. Ahem.
An Inkwell, to keep said quill scratching happily away. With ink. And not just lemon juice... which has been tried, in a particular fit of desperation.
Ameko has lent her a Crystal Ball, which once lived its life as a paperweight on Jessica's desk. After a quick bewitching, however, it has a new role as a scrying reagent -- or, more appropriately, a convenient reflective surface for checking one's appearance.
A Cauldron, not for boiling Bindre.
And Books of every imaginable type and face line the shelves. Their topics seem to run a common theme -- Disquise and Alchemy, mostly -- but there are also a few titles on Beasts.

Hanging on the wall just over the door, suspended by its narrow, fraying thread on an equally dingy nail, is a kitsune mask. While its method of suspension seems aged and rather untrustworthy, it itself looks almost new -- the porcelain from which it is made is polished to a perfect sheen, and it glistens and glimmers in any trace of light.
On its glazed face, reddened lips are drawn back into a smirk, dotted gently with nostrils of the same claret hue. The bridge of its nose is swathed in black, a stark contrast to its delicately shaded, narrowed eyes; its ears are also lined with red, and along its forehead is a curious symbol, its significance known to none but Ameko -- its owner.
</center>Story Prompt
It was a cold and blustery afternoon -- and she honestly couldn't see why they had chosen to hold a festival during this sort of weather. The wind was cold and biting, harshly stinging her nose and cheeks; she could feel the blood rushing to them, reddening her face in a way she might have once found shameful, embarrassing. But now, glancing around at the spectacles openly taking place in the streets -- bright flashes of blinding illumination, dancing bits of colorful display -- she felt perfectly at home, red nose or not.
With a laughing smile playing round her lips, she clutched a wand to her chest, tightening her grasp against the slender length of wood and eagerly observing the magical feats as they were haphazardly performed. To her right, someone laughed, long and loud and hard, as their friend accidentally lit the ground beneath their feet aflame; to her left, beyond the sharp profile of her companion, she could spy someone who had turned their nose black and cold and wet, and was snuffling impressively as others around crowed their amusement.
As her attention drifted elsewhere, her friend cleared his throat and began to speak. His voice was a quiet, flutelike tenor, and his words seemed almost musical as he formed them, brow furrowed in shy question. "You said the blessing was taking place in the square, correct?" The woman managed to detach her attention from a man who was singing drunkenly outside of the tavern -- its sign had first attracted her attention, with its antique carving of the tavern's name: the Black Cat -- and glanced round at him.
Her friend, Ameko, was a kitsune, and a very young one, at that. With only three tails in his usual form, he had settled with her upon attaining his second, and the two rather mismatched beings had been the very best of friends ever since. While she found his... illusionary tendencies a little unnerving at the most inopportune of moments (Ameko had never been very skilled at deducing for himself when was a good time to be a fox and when it was better to appear as a human), that hadn't been enough to dampen their relationship.
At the moment, he was in his favored guise for such crowded, public places: a young man, with stubbornly untidy hair the shade of lilacs in the midst of spring and eyes a deep and vivid gold. Even in the most private of locales this combination was a bit eerie, and now was no different. She took a moment in answering him to gather her wits, wrenching herself from the depth of his gaze and tightening her grasp on the slender wand held between either mittened hand.
"In the square, yes," Jessica stammered, and Ameko smiled reflectively, glancing curiously to the wand held tight against her chest.
"It is made out of what?" he inquired, for at least the fourth time that day. She had been awake the entire night through, studying books of lore and magic, and he had hovered over her shoulder for the majority of the time, leaving only once to nap; during that lengthy period of steady observance he had asked, over and over, what wood meant what, and what the wand was made out of, and what she proposed to do about it.
"Yew and rowan," Jessica answered patiently. Her friend's wisdom was enough to make up for his forgetfulness. "If you'll remember, yew has special properties regarding mysticism, and enhances other arcane talents... and rowan--"
"Was used once for protection," Ameko finished, smiling cryptically.
"It's also good for enchantment," Jessica agreed, and the two continued on in silence, walking side by side. The lapse in conversation might have felt rather uncomfortable, if he was anyone but himself and she was anyone different... but as it was, it was peaceful; soothing, almost, to be surrounded by a raucous crowd, good cheer, and to be silent and ponderous within, refraining from joining in the festivities.
Presently, a loud bell tolled the hour, and someone called out for a friend, and someone else shouted shrilly something about a ceremony. Curiously, Jessie glanced to Ameko, who shrugged slender shoulders in indifference; panicked, the woman began to run, glancing to her wrist -- which was devoid of her watch, the delicate timepiece having been broken a few days prior by a particularly rambunctious game of cricket in the living room.
She cursed, and ran harder, pursued at a slightly more leisurely pace by her companion. The wand, held tight to her breast, seemed to be - reverberating, almost as though alive, and breathing shallowly; the woman shook her head, banishing such fanciful thoughts, and skidded to a halt at the fringe of a throng. This was the square, evident by the clock tower spied briefly above the head of the man in front of her, and these must be the other wand owners... Or were they?
Jessica narrowed her eyes in an attempt to increase the clarity of her vision.
These people here, on the outskirts, surrounding a raised platform in the middle of the square, seemed to be mere spectators. Impatient, she began shoving innocent bystanders aside, straining to catch a glimpse of where the ceremony would be held.
At length, and much jostling from others, Jessica broke free of the crowd, and stood with shallow breath to eye the others arranging themselves in a loose and casual line, glancing nervously to each other and no doubt making guesses at the rituals and processions themselves. Each held a wand, and each held a small item of indiscernible value -- and then she remembered, as suddenly as one might during a particularly relaxing vacation that they had left the stove on.
She needed an item of blessing.
Panicked, furious with her mistake (the blame could, of course, be rested on no one but herself), Jessica whirled, but the line of observers was adamant in disallowing her passage. Hot tears of mingling shame and anguish stung the back of her eyes, and she strove to melt back into the throng, desperately hoping that maybe, someday, she could catch the next ceremony, and her money would not be wasted.
Jessie jumped, startled, as a feather-light weight settled on her shoulder, and became the slender hand of her friend. She glanced away from him, scrubbing desperately at her eyes with her free hand, gaze fixed on a young, vividly green sproutling growing stubbornly from a crack in the cobblestone, desperately reaching for the caress of the dim and filtered sunlight of very early spring. Jessica hoped, distracted with such thoughts instead of focusing on the matter at hand, that it would be allowed to grow, to flourish...
"You need an item of blessing," Ameko stated calmly, extending the hand not already preoccupied with resting comfortingly on her shoulder. Around his fingers was entwined a slender string; from it hung a mask, cast of alabaster porcelain, shaped with pointed, erect ears and curving whiskers. Its lips, slightly drawn back into a puzzled grimace, were painted red, and its eyes were slanting and narrowed. A fox mask. She recognized it almost immediately, and stopped short in surprise.
"Bless it with this," the disguised kitsune continued, untangling his fingers from the string and wrapping it gently around her wrist. "Bless it with this, and give it the class of Appearance. I can help the witch or wizard who comes to claim it... for Appearance will deal with illusionary arts, and you are well aware of the talent I hold for such things." Ameko smiled, canines a bit too sharp, a touch too pointed to be considered entirely human, and withdrew into the crowd before she could stop him.
Drawing a deep breath, Jessica tightened one hand around the wand of yew and rowan, gripping the elegant, porcelain mask in the other, and stepped toward the platform, filled with renewed energy. She would not have to wait, after all... and for this new arrival, this new responsibility, and this new... friend, she felt confident.
And perhaps...
...A touch excited.
With a laughing smile playing round her lips, she clutched a wand to her chest, tightening her grasp against the slender length of wood and eagerly observing the magical feats as they were haphazardly performed. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v191/J-chan-sama/yey_refs/tempameko.jpg" align=right>Ameko is a kitsune, and a rather young one, at that. With only three tails (in the picture, one is hidden... honest), he is quite the fledgling, and until this point has lived in relative solitude with Jessica, his 'owner' of sorts, and Owyln, her husband, along with their myriad of pets.
When Jessica purchased the wand, Ameko decided -- rather abruptly -- that his moment of opportunity had finally arrived, and pounced on it before it could escape; he offered to move out to Hawick in order to care for the new arrival, as Jessie and Owyln had been trying, rather consistently for several months now, to conceive and were unable to leave their home. After an evening of consideration, the woman had agreed, and tearfully seen off the kitsune as he made arrangements, renting out a small flat on the edge of the small British town and ordered furniture, and then took his leave, taking only a suitcase with him.
Ameko is quiet and rather shy, given to allowing others to speak before he ever utters a word. While this suggests that he is weak of mind and initiative, such things are unfortunate misconceptions; golden eyes reflect an intelligent regard, an intent sort of scrutiny that might make the casual visitor quite nervous... and yet, despite all this, he seems to prove a capable enough guardian, and has spent the majority of his time in his new house cleaning and preparing for the arrival of his apprentice.

The house is small enough. Its layout is as follows, and will -- one day, with any luck -- be awarded slightly more graphic imagery. The same house, but in a distinctly more roleplay-friendly environment, can be found here.
The Porch is small and quaint, hewn of aged wood, typical of the area. A window looks out over this, and a pathway of small stones set into the wood leads to the door, on either side of which sits a pair of wilting potted plants. Neighbors might often spy Ameko sitting on a rough, wooden bench arranged aesthetically beside one of the dying plants, or tending to the equally ill garden, alongside the steps.
Beyond the door is the Hallway. Long and winding, a few doors lead off of this, including a pair of offset archways; to the right is the kitchen, and to the left is the living room, respectively. The others are broom closets, bathrooms, or bedrooms -- good luck trying to find your way through these, and expect to make a few wrong guesses before discovering the room you're seeking!
Through the archway to the right, is the Kitchen. A window over the sink looks out over the porch, and it is furnished with only the barest necessities -- icebox, stove, silverware drawer, and a myriad of cabinets stuffed with things left over from the previous owner. In one shelf lurks a family of rats, which Ameko is rather fond of, and will defend if any extermination attempts are made. The pantries are stocked with dry and canned food, and it seems the wily kitsune has planned far enough in advance to live a few months without needing any new supplies.
The archway to the left leads to the Living Room. It is a comfortable lounge, couches and sofas arranged in a fashion that could only be considered erratically aesthetic, abiding by Ameko's rather questionable fashion sense. They are upholstered in various materials, none of which match, but all soft as down; a number of tables are littered throughout, as well, and upon these sit countless treasures and trinkets, as well as a few boxes of tissue. Can't go wrong with tissue.
The Bathrooms, wherever they are, are simple, with toilet and sink and shower each. As far as the kitsune is concerned, anyone may use them at any time, as long as they remember to clean up afterward.
The rest of the house may be explored at will, and any number of (small, unimportant) rooms described at the discretion of the writer concerned.
</center><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v191/J-chan-sama/yey_refs/tempameko.jpg" align=right>Ameko is a kitsune, and a rather young one, at that.

</center>The house is small enough.

04.20.05 :: Half Past Three AM
Upon being struck by a particularly unfortunate case of insomnia -- or possibly somnambulism; the latter is quite plausible, and I will decide whether or not it was so with a footnote jotted here in the morning, attesting to whether or not I recall writing this entry, which I probably will not -- I have decided to do as Sitara believes impossible and compose a rough summary of the events chronicled in diaries long since disposed of.
Perhaps I will also speak of their untimely demise, for it was most horrible. You see, Jessica -- my 'owner', of sorts; more of a guardian, really -- had decided that I must be lonely in Hawick, despite how I have made quite evident that Sitara's presence is as much as I can put up with, really, and mailed me -- in the mail -- one of the cats that I had loathed when I still stayed with her, off in Durem.
This wasn't even my least-loathed cat of the trio -- a siamese, a calico, and a simple black and white feline; Tip, Tick, and Tock, respectively -- I would have much preferred Tick, had the truth been told -- but I received Tip in the mail, with the excuse that if I had taken Tick, she could not introduce them as Tick and Tock and the joke would be ruined. Tip is, however, being a siamese, a hellion, simply enough; upon her arrival here, she has already shredded the curtains I purchased not two days ago (but hadn't yet gotten a chance to put up), and ate both diaries.
Yes. Ate them. Both.
I am of the understanding that it sounds very -- Sitara, hanging over my shoulder, has advised me to say 'lame' -- so I am of the understanding that it sounds very 'lame' to say that my cat ate my diary, but that is what happened, oddly enough. Today I went and purchased two more journals, as well as new curtains and a crate for Tip to stay in at night. I would rather the cat live its life outside, in the yard perhaps, and maybe if we are lucky it will be run down by a vehicle of some sort. Sitara agrees with me, I believe; the cat has already once tried to eat Bindre, but the rabbit seems perfectly capable of defending himself, and bloodied Tip's nose before the cat got it into her head to leave.
Admittedly a great deal of time has passed between Sitara's arrival and the present
HA I TOLD YOU YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SUMMARIZE IT ALL
that was Sitara, as you could guess, she had stolen my pen and decided to write a bit of an addendum, I suppose you could call it. However, she is quite wrong, and I am fully prepared to tackle this chore with as much determination as I can
yes well, now that that has been taken care of.
I suppose I will leave it at that. Sitara has arrived, she and I are getting along wonderfully (do not listen to any remarks of hers, for she is lying), and her lessons have begun, if with some trepidation on my part, for she is showing an unhealthy if restrained interest in potions. Restrained, that is, because I am not allowing her to practice brewing while I still harbor hopes of keeping the roof intact. I suppose having a witch in the house means that I should release such follies...
Until next time,

...Did not remember writing. Any of that, really. Quite frightening, although my subconscious seems to have a decent grasp on the household goings-on.
Am persuading to Sitara to write in her journal as well. Whether or not she will listen to my wisdom remains to be seen. I intend today on showing her my shapechanging abilities; it is something she has been looking forward to, admittedly, and has been pestering me ever since she heard for a display of such.
Perhaps she will learn something. Perhaps she will simply continue playing with her set of disguises. She is free to do what she wishes; I hope only that my lessons are not going to waste, and she is absorbing at least some information.

Hello there, Ameko is a git and made me write in my journal. I don't see why I have to update at all, he takes perfect care of everything and chronicles even the most hum-drum of occurrences. I am surprised he has not written 'AND TODAY SITARA ATE A PIECE OF TOAST, BUTTERED OF COURSE, AND RATHER BURNT AT THE EDGES.' That would only fit his nature, really, and I expect it any day.
At the moment I am sitting at the kitchen table, watching as he attempts preparing breakfast. For being such a majestic creature (HA) as a kitsune, he is wonderfully bad at cooking, and I am quite surprised that I have not yet died of food poisoning. I believe he is attempting eggs, although I cannot say for certain, as they resemble no egg I have ever seen, cooked or scrambled or raw or still in its shell. Quite possibly the shell has been beaten into the mixture but I am afraid to ask.
He will not let me look at his new journal although I have left a few notes for him (haha lets see him try to get the ink out wot wot eh see I am brushing up on my English lingo, I hope I sound the part) so I do not know what he has said and what he hasn't, although I have my suspicions that he has already written about everything interesting. I don't care as this isn't a letter to someone, after all, no one will be reading this I am sure, so I do not even know why I have to WRITE IT AT ALL but there is Ameko for you, always telling me to do pointless things.
Yesterday we went shopping, of course, picked up these journals. Mine is a very pretty orange one, with soft material on the front, I believe the clerk called it felt or something, but that doesn't make sense. I HAVE FELT THE FELT haha. Any way, while we were out I did a bit of shopping for myself, picking up more food for Bindre and some seeds, for him of course he rather fancies sunflower seeds and sunflowers themselves, I am thinking of growing a few in the yard. Ameko, though, as well as being fantastically horrible at cooking, is also fantastically horrible at gardening. All of the plants are dead! However, I met this charming young man by the name of Alair, and he was studying Herbology. Perhaps he can help.
Since Alair is at the moment my only friend, I thought it might be nice to pick him up a small gift, but I was unsure of what. He is interested in plants -- he told me so -- so I thought perhaps a rare flower of some sort, but I am really clueless when it comes to such things, so I asked Ameko, and he knew less than I did. I do not even know what Alair has and what he hasn't! I do not know what grows here! But we browsed anyway, and I found a lovely specimen called a -- a lady's slipper, I believe is what the gardener said, so of course I bought one and pressed it and a few seeds as well.
I was going to see if they would give me them already planted and grown and healthy, but when I met Alair he was growing a flower... perhaps he will like to grow it himself? So I will give him the seeds and perhaps the pressed one, too, it is very pretty. I do not know what I shall do with the rest of my day, though -- I am uncertain of when would be best to call on Alair again, or even where he lives! Perhaps he will visit me; perhaps not. I don't know, but I am determined to meet him again: what will I do with a packet of lady slipper seeds?
Oh ho, breakfast is done at last. Let us hope I live past its consumption, eh wot wot?

So it's really early in the morning and I'm updating again, woe. I really don't know why my sleep has been so fitful lately, I feel perfectly healthy when it comes right down to it I suppose, a bit of a headache sometimes maybe but nothing too bad. I think it's because Ameko's finally cracked down on my studying and I've watched him do so much, it's so much to think about all of the time, I wonder if I'll ever be able to do the things he did?
Well first off yesterday afternoon he took me into the kitchen and gave me this big long boring lecture about how if (HE ACTUALLY SAID 'IF', I COULD HAVE PUNCHED HIM) I ever learned to do these things I'd have to be very careful with them, they weren't games to play or things to impress people with and he would be very disappointed in me if I ever used them for that sort of thing, blah blah de blah. Yes well, I promised I wouldn't, but I didn't go on to add that I wouldn't AS LONG AS I wasn't trying to impress a man or something, my mother used to tell me that anything was fair game in seduction.
So he gives me this lecture that I only half-listen to, and then he snaps at me for not listening and tells me that he won't show me what he was going to and that I could just wander off and do whatever I pleased. That got me SO MAD I couldn't stand to be in the house anymore, so I left and went storming out into town, and I looked around at some of the shops and cooled off a bit. Bindre came with me but I don't think he was too keen on it, not many people would let him into their stores until I told them that he was my familiar and was magic and would try to avoid pooing on anything important. He didn't help -- he gritted his teeth at everyone and everything -- but eventually they'd relent, because ohhh, it was so nice to see magic-users in the village again, etc etc.
So I looked around at the stores and I wished I could have bought some of the things that I seen, but I don't really have any money. I brought some with me but I don't think it's the same currency, the coins here really look strange and mine don't, honestly, they look normal. I wonder if I could exchange them anywhere? That would be nice, then maybe I could afford some of those dresses I seen... anyway, window-shopping, I discovered, is a nice way to cool off when you're angry. I'll have to keep that in mind and do it more often. I am ashamed to admit I get angry rather a lot, though usually no one notices, because I tend to be quiet about it unless it's REALLY REALLY BAD in which case EVERYONE NOTICES because I EXPLODE.
Not literally, though maybe someday I'll learn to and then they'll all be sorry.
Anyway, after that I went back home in the evening, it was like seven or eight o'clock I don't know, the sun was just beginning to set. I carried Bindre home because he'd fallen asleep on a bench and didn't want to wake up for anyone; he kept growling at me whenever I touched him until I said that I was just going to pick him up and then I'd leave him alone. He let me do that, anyway, lazy rabbit, I don't know why I keep him around, he's not good for anything after all except keeping the weeds back. I hope he hasn't found where Alair lives! Alair's a gardener of sorts, I think, he's studying Herbology and growing a lot of things I bet, he'd be really upset if Bindre went and destroyed his garden.
When I finally came back, anyway (I seem to write that a lot, I wonder why I can't just follow one thread of thought all the way through, must be AN ACTUAL FLAW of my personality -- I've never found one before!), Ameko apologized sort of. He apologized by making me a big tasty dinner and then promising he'd show me more things (MORE? HE SHOWED ME ANY AT ALL?) tomorrow. I guess tomorrow's today now, huh? I can't wait, really, I bet it will be really exciting, he's been hinting a lot that he's really magical and can do really awesome stuff. I wonder what kitsune can do, anyway? I know they can shapechange but I wonder if there's anything else.
I woke up from a nightmare last night, too... it's hard to remember what it was about, but I remember that it hurt a lot and I couldn't really breathe. When I woke up I was holding my breath and it sort of burned I wonder how long I'd been holding it for? If I pass out like that I'll just start breathing again right? I bet so, my brother used to hold his breath until he passed out all the time and no one really cared haha.
Oh look Ameko is up, he tried to peek into my journal but HAHA I outwitted him and turned the page! I am so smart.
But I suppose I should try to help him make breakfast before he kills it like he did those poor, poor eggs.
Impatient to actually LEARN SOMETHING OH THE NOVELTY,

One should not listen to Sitara, I am teaching her a very great deal but she is just not listening because it is not HANDS-ON. She is not required to DO ANYTHING, she is not MOVING AROUND or MAKING THINGS FLY AROUND THE ROOM (except when she throws them, toward which she has an unfortunate tendency) so she is not happy.
I have been lecturing her on the methods of shapechanging and how I do it personally, which I would think was fascinating if I wasn't already familiar with such, being myself and all. I am perfectly respecting her privacy of course, I did not either try peeking into her journal, I just glanced over her shoulder to see what she was doing and making sure she was writing an entry and not drawing insipid things or something like that.
...And yes, I have considered schooling her in calligraphy, because her handwriting is so very horrible, but it is hard enough to teach her as it is.
She is also cooking breakfast, and woe, I am afraid to eat it. She thinks I killed the eggs but really, they were doing fine until she decided to come "help." Mental note: Never accept help from witches again, it will only result in trouble and the destruction of the stove, which was too young to die yet, may its wood-burning soul rest in peace.

If only the momentary lapse of written activity had been an indication that whatever vindictive god or goddess watching over this household had deemed me worthy of a vacation. a few moments of relaxation is really all I ask, but even this I am denied: Sitara has fallen sick, not very badly mind, but she is ill enough to require waiting upon hand and foot and I am beginning to grow annoyed with her regardless.
Admittedly during the first few days she was rather endearing, talking softly (which, I realize now, was nothing more than the results of a sore throat) and shyly requesting drinks and gently refusing offers of lunch or dinner or breakfast. I had begun to worry when she felt disinclined to eat the morning following her initial downturn of health, for Sitara has never before refused my breakfast or since despite her complaining of its condition (oh my, I have not considered that this may all be the effects of food poisoning, though surely not -- and if it was, it wouldn't be entirely my fault anyway, she was the one that destroyed the stove).
But she seems to be doing a little better now. It is fairly late in the evening that I am composing this entry, and I have just seen her to bed, which was a relatively short trip considering she is mostly bedridden and will be so for the next few days until she is completely recovered. Of course she has fought against this decree, claiming that she is JUST FINE, when I know for a fact that she IS NOT because I can barely understand her when she talks she is so congested. Bindre has been terribly affectionate lately, as well... or at least I assume that is the rabbit's particular method of affection. He has not, at least, bitten me once since Sitara has fallen ill, although he has done his fair share of growling and gnashing of teeth, but I have by now become more than accustomed to these displays.
When I departed her bedroom to fetch her one last glass of iced tea before she sleeps for the night, Bindre was curled up beside her, allowing her to rest the spine of her book on his own slightly more curving spine and occasionally lifting his head to nibble a page or two. He is rather cute, I believe, when he is not trying to eat my hands or face. Speaking of books, Sitara has been reading a very great deal, showing increasing interest in books about plants and gardening, and while I honestly can't fathom the reasoning behind this, I cannot with equal honesty find complaint, either. Gardening is a very relaxing hobby and one to be proud of.
Perhaps I can persuade her to design a zen garden out front, after of course she revives the rest of the foliage in that area, as it is all rather dead. Hopefully however she will not show an interest in herbology, for my prowess does not extend to such classes and I will be of little help.
Until next time I suppose, I really must give her her tea before she becomes impatient,
