Name : Rionne [Last name purposefully avoided]
Age : Teen
Eyes : White, no pupil
Skin : White
Hair : Long, mostly straight, dark blue, usually worn loose- not often tied back.
Height : Tall
Build : Slender, but strong. Graceful in movements once he adjusts to not being a dragon anymore, light on his feet.
Mythology : Doppelgaengers, souls trapped in mirrors

Likes : Astaroth. Learning. Understanding what is going on around him. Good books, a quiet afternoon at home. The internet. PC-based RPG's
Dislikes : Violence, conflict, neglect. Being left alone, particularly with no warning. Being treated lightly, as if he doesn't matter.

Weapon : Longsword. He has dropped the rapier completely in favor of the heavier weapon, one of the many things he has changed to avoid the concept of being Morion.

Magic : Currently, not much is known about Rio's magic. For certain, he has the ability to cause hallucinations in himself and others; these can be very, very deep, and even affect the way the body reacts- such as him keeping the muscle he gained in his illusionary weapons practices. All others will be found over time.

OOC (to be obtained): Mirror souls (and creatures within), Doppelgaenger abilities, Mirrorwalk, others as yet undetermined.

Clothing-
Important: Uneasy with his new face, Rio currently wears a veil at all times- more to hide from himself than to hide from anyone he sees. No matter what outfit he wears, he is always wearing the onyx drop earring from Astaroth in his right ear. YES, HE STILL WEARS GLASSES.
Casual : Rio's most common outfit consists of nice slacks in black or navy blue, a white shirt (tucked in, but with top button undone), and...boots. He still greatly dislikes shoes. Alternatively, he wears tunic-style shirts of heavy materials and dark colors with silver trim, a more serious look.
Formal : Only in formal clothing will Rio approach the style he wore among the dragons. He will either wear well-cut suits, or he will wear Authurian-style silks and velvets, usually in black though dark, rich purples or blues are also permissable. This type of outfit requires a VERY serious situation.
Others : When in Hell, dress as the Demons do. References to the style he wears among Astaroth's people forthcoming ^_~

In the case of commissions and art requests...

Please do not forget :
- Rio's veil and earring from Astaroth
- He has NO DRAGON TRAITS. They are completely gone. If his back is bare in the picture, there are very, very deep scars where his wings were- hard to see, since they're white, but the marks are visible because of how deep they were. Not pretty.
- Glasses! Rio DOES wear glasses- thin black frames, oval/round.

Happy to see, but not necessary :
- Images of him wearing the veil but pulling it away slightly so you can see his face
- References/inclusion of mirrors in any way

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vocabulary:
A few words Rio has learned...

Doppelgaenger: Literally German, 'double goer/double walker.' The mirror-self of any person with a soul, having taken the initiative to move about on their own (in theory, everyone has a Doppelgaenger). A race of people born completely colorless with long fingernails and pointed ears, possessing the ability to change their face and form, as well as control/manipulate mirrors, creatures within, and cause hallucinations. Doppelgaengers do not possess souls, and therefore have no reflection unless assisted by magical means.

Mirror: The person a Doppelgaenger is currently mimicking. This is likely to change frequently, depending on the Doppelgaenger's level of skill, and is very RARELY the Doppelgaenger's Origin.

Origin: The person that any Doppelgaenger used to be, and pulled away from- aka, the person that holds their soul. Morion is Rio's Origin, even though each carry half a soul. This is the abolute hardest person for any Doppelgaenger to mimic- they are too close, and the details become frustratingly difficult to master. It is considered a great accomplishment the day one successfully accomplishes this task- if ever.

The Game/ The Facade: The act of any Doppelgaenger going out and taking over the life of another person (face, voice, work, relationships, etc.). It is considered worthy of high respect if you can play the Game and never be caught. Though Doppelgaengers treat the lives of their Mirrors very lightly, they take the Game very seriously. The best at the Game (for example, Liliah) can spend over a year like this without anyone knowing. Warning: staying in the Game for more than a few months most often leads to insanity and trauma once the player is forced to understand that the Game has ended.

Get as nervous as you should be, baby
Cause it's a long way down from here.

Once, there was a Fa'e named Morion.

The Blue Dragon was a happy Fa'e, with friends, family, someone he loved, the usual teen uncertainties, and hobbies. There was no undue suffering in his life. Then, one day, everything changed- his Guardian, Smoke, disappeared, assumed to be dead, leaving him alone and adrift.

Morion grieved.

When he regained awareness, nothing had changed, but he was growing weaker. He had not seen any of his close friends in so long that he doubted they would look upon him with the same fondness; he sought out someone who could give him answers, tell him what to do. It was Anen that gave him the confirmation that his soul was no longer attached to Smoke's; in his despair, he ran. A short distance away, an empath named Britain felt his pain and came to find him...the tiny redhead took him home and became his Guardian to keep him alive.

Life move on. Morion learned to adapt, still touched by the same sadness but knowing that his only choice was to move forward. He became involved with the Demon-Fa'e, Astaroth, and found what he believed to be his own people. He was...happy.

And then, Smoke returned to Gaia.

Suddenly, the Dragon Fa'e was bound to two different Guardians. He was literally torn apart by the weight of Smoke on one side, Britain on the other; from this trauma emerged not one but two Fa'e. One looked exactly like Morion, and was bound to Smoke; the other was nearly his opposite, possessing dragon-traits that were useless and began to fade, and was bonded to Britain. In a panic and desperation, the Dragon-Morion fled to Smoke. The Mirror-Morion remained behind, half-destroying himself in his own panic and collapsing.

Only one of his people remained, who proved not to be a dragon at all- instead, Galatyne informed Mirror-Morion that everything that had happened in that 'realm' since Smoke had left, and indeed much more, was nothing but illusion. In truth, this double had been created by Morion's despair at losing his Guardian, and had been active ever since- a mirror to Morion's soul, a reborn Fa'e from the myths of Doppelgaengers and souls trapped in mirrors.

There was nothing left of what he had been- and now everything he loved, everyone he loved, belonged to a different person. It was up to fate and his own frantic efforts to salvage what he could of Morion's life- and forge his own.

Rio is gradually learning about the person he's become with the help of a few friends of his new race. What information he has found for himself, he has discovered in books and urban myths.

The Doppelgaenger

  • A doppelgänger is the ghostly double of a living person. The word doppelgänger is a loanword from German, written there (as any noun) with an initial capital letter Doppelgänger, composed from doppel, meaning "double", and gänger, literally as "goer" (though in this context, the meaning is closer to "walker" ). In English, the word is conventionally not capitalized, and it is also common to drop the German diacritic umlaut on the letter "a" and write "doppelganger", although the correct spelling without umlaut is "doppelgaenger".

The term has, in the vernacular, come to refer to any double or look-alike of a person, most commonly in reference to a so-called evil twin, or to bilocation. Alternatively, the word is used to describe a phenomenon where you catch your own image out of the corner of your eye. In some mythologies, seeing one's own doppelgänger is an omen of death. A doppelgänger seen by friends or relatives of a person may sometimes bring bad luck, or indicate an approaching illness or health problem.

The doppelgängers of folklore cast no shadow, and have no reflection in a mirror or in water. They are supposed to provide advice to the person they shadow, but this advice can be misleading or malicious. They can also, in rare instances, plant ideas in their victim's mind or appear before friends and relatives, causing confusion. In many cases once someone has viewed his own doppelgaenger he is doomed to be haunted by images of his ghostly counter-part.

  • Some versions refer to the act of seeing one's own Doppelgaenger- or seeing that of someone else, as biolocation. Bilocation is the ostensibly supernatural act of appearing or being in two or more locations simultaneously.

    -Information courtesy of Wikipedia

  • A doppleganger is a shape changing monster who can feed upon another while taking his very identity. The doppleganger is a gangly Medium-size humanoid with slick skin and white eyes with no pupils.

Supertitions about Mirrors

  • To break uncolored glass in any form but that of a mirror or a bottle is a fortunate omen; but if the glass is red, future trouble and anxiety are implied. If green glass is broken, bitter disappointment will be your lot.

  • A mirror should be covered during a thunderstorm because it attracts lightning.

  • It is unlucky to see your face in a mirror by candlelight. If you stare into a mirror by candlelight you will see the spirit of a lost loved one.

  • Breaking a mirror means 7 years of bad luck, unless you blacken the peices in a fire and then take the pieces outside & bury them in moonlight.

  • It is extremely unlucky to receive a mirror as a present.

  • If a mirror in the house falls and breaks by itself, someone in the house will die soon.

:: Galatyne (Gala'tyne Remoerdis)

My Knight, the source of all of my deception...but also the first person to notice something was wrong, take interest, and do something about it. He has become something akin to a brother to me. Though he has lied to me several times, and lead me blind through the valley of the shadow of death, I believe his reasons were mostly good. I rely on him. He knows who I am, what I am, and I do not believe he will leave me adrift in the tide.

:: Britain

This tiny little redhead has kept me alive, though I was almost unable to communicate to her what I needed. Empathy is a rare gift, and I was fortunate that she had it and looked past my inability to ask for her help. She is not my mother, in any way, and can never replace Smoke to me...but she is a good person, and I am very fond of her. She has supported me as much as she can in her unmagical way.

:: Morion

The other half of my soul. Though the thought of him brings to mind a great dread and too much fear, he is still desperately important to me- when we are apart I am constantly worried about him, especially now. Can you love someone and fear them at the same time? I feel that no one will ever feel the same way to me. He is...a part of me, even now.

Aadil: Asset? Aadil is the strangest person I have ever met in my entire life. Destructively proud yet bitterly wise, I am not sure what to make of him- but there is a sharpness to him I felt like preserving. If all your problems are money, my friend, then you have no problems, and you will be fine...but somehow I think your problems go much deeper than that. I hope you will call on me- or someone, at least- when that lady of yours gets too persistent.

Anen: Asset. When I have needed him most, Anen gave me calm reassurance and open hands containing welcome assistance- he is one of those 'good people' that are so hard to find.

Astaroth: Unknown. It was a joyous love while it lasted- but I don't know what we have left, anymore.

Devmani: Asset. Comrade. Young, but steady. I fought with him at my back during Prom 2005, and found him to be a strong ally.

Kia: Asset. Affection. Kia is Kia. She is a dear sister to me, and I do not think that will ever change.

Riven: Asset. Respect. I have never met anyone I have found so easy to trust, so easy to hear- his words always reach me. For some reason, they always seem to be what I needed. He has not turned me away, and he is stronger than his own demons...I will learn from him. I will find my own freedom. And perhaps...I might consider him a dear friend- though the title still seems presumptuous!

Airyn: Asset. Riven's lovely daughter! What a wonderful child. Not because she found any beauty in me, but because she is so honest. I know that she will brighten the universe, this little star. My urge to protect her and spoil her terribly is disturbingly high. I hope I might see her again often.

:: Items of Importance

Prom Mask from 2005
The mask Morion was wearing as Silence at Fa'e Prom 2005: the eventful night when Chaos attacked, he joined forces with several other Fa'e to fight, and he began his turbulent relationship with Astaroth. Designed by Ogre <3

Dragon Ring
The dragon ring Morion bought for Astaroth in the Dragon Realms, during his 'dream.' This item is, of course, in Astaroth's possession. He knew it was special when he found it; upon touching it, the clear stone turned blood red. Strangely enough, it still exists even though the dreamer has awakened- perhaps it is more than just a ring.

Dragon Key
The Key Morion gave to Astaroth to let him reach the Dragon Realm. It did cease to exist when the illusion shattered, but Galatyne had it made because he liked the design; the several inches long key is now Rio's keychain.

Pictures by Airyn
Pictures of Rio, with and without his veil, by Riven's daughter Airyn. They are very important to Rio because the girl was the first to see him without the veil besides his family, and she accepted his new face with open arms. His shattered self confidence was repaired by a single little girl, and he will never forget the gifts she has given him.

Red and Purple Feather
Dropped from Aadil's wings during their first drenched and slightly violent encounter. Aadil makes Rio think- he keeps it nearby for the days when he completely agrees with Dil's 'festering shithole' philosophy.

Scarab
A luckpiece from his trip to Egypt with Kia and Anen. It's usually in his laptop case, or on his desk where he can see it, be reminded, and smile.

Wraithslayer
Galatyne decided Rio wasn't getting anywhere with those light swords of his, and took steps to replace the rapier with something heavier. Though swordplay is really jsut a hobby for Rio, it helps him get his mind off of things when he's worried or upset.

Armband - Eye of Ra 2
What is this...?

:: The Five of Mirrors ::
Art by Prolixity <3

Kaher'din Remoerdis (Kaherdin- The Heron)
Galatyne's father. VERY tall, approximately 6'4", and entirely white- long white hair past his waist, pale skin even for a doppelgaenger, white eyes, white clothes. Very noble in manner, intelligent, patient, with an underlying focus that cannot be matched by anyone else in his 'people.' His talent lies with affecting the souls of others through their reflections in mirrors (Mirrorsoul), and he is known for having precise control over his abilities. This also applies to doppelgaengers using enchanted mirrors. He is kind, more so than most, and truly believes that Rio is something special. He will help the Fa'e any way he can, but he won't tolerate any sort of overarrogance or sulking for even a second.

Liliah Remoerdis
Galatyne's mother. Like the Heron, this delicate beauty is well-respected by the other doppelgaengers and considered as much of a leader as they will recognize. Her strongest ability is Mirrorwalk, and she can go from mirror to mirror through even some of the most powerful wardings- but she is more known (and loved) for her talent in taking over the lives of famous celebrities and playing their parts- even in film productions- flawlessly. In a society of actors, she is queen. Her personality is warm and inviting, and her quiet serenity tempers the sometimes heated irritation of her husband and son.

Gwenevere
Gwen is spiteful, hurtful, malicious, and vengeful to the point of obsession. He's in love with his hate, and finds pleasure only in hurting others and moving them to suicide, death, or insanity. He's so far lost that he can no longer remember who he broke away from, and so seeks to take over as many people as he can. He consumes lives, falls in love, then breaks everyone he was involved in to watch the pieces fall. He only finds joy in others tears and finally to be able to die over and over again, and be born again.

Gwen hates his appearance, and is constantly changing it from the stark white on white that it normally should be. His body is covered in moving tattoo's, his hair is dyed at all times, and he wears contacts religiously.

He cannot grasp emotions, so he's constantly getting into fights, love affairs, passionate agruements in order to FEEL them from others. He considers emotions his perfect drug- Lust and Agony being his personal favorites.

Nomine
Very little is known about the reclusive Fourth of the Five of Mirrors. He has been a hermit for a very long time, but is still respected as one of the highest because when he DOES come out of hiding, he does it with a bang. Nomine's greatest power is called Manticore, the ability to pull unattached souls from the mirror and turn them into essentially an army of zombies. These creatures are nightmarish, terrifyingly twisted remnants of their former selves, but they obey their summoner without question. He is not a violent person, so this tends to be a very extreme action for him to take. He was once Liliah's teacher, and can be called from hiding by his former student's voice.
