Welcome to the official Writing Contest thread for the Elemental Spirits Fae breedables RP! For this competition, a Brown seedling will be made available to the lucky winner (more seedlings may also be awarded, depending on Chiaku's time constraints and the quality of the applications). An Elemental Spirit is a fae-like creature born from a small seedling collected from the Falsin Forest of Astora village. Each is the manifestation of a forest spirit of a particular element, and these elements are based upon the Chinese element system.

The personality and natural tendencies of each child is dependent on nature and nurture, and his or her development is guided by the game's Special Event and Grading Card system.

Each child requires attention through scrapbooks/journals and RPing. If you RP with your child enough, you will also receive Special Event interactions and Grading Cards that will inform you of your progress.

The Rules for This Thread:
- Do NOT PM Chiaku or Elemental Spirits with questions. Post questions here.
- Always be polite and friendly! No bashing anyone else.
- No whining, complaining, etc.
- Bumps are always welcome!

The Rules for Writers:
- All submissions are due by 7:00 p.m. CST on Sunday, April 24, 2005.
- Only one submission per person (no mule accounts!).
- Send submissions only to Elemental Spirits.
- Writing prompts must be a minimum of 150 words and a maximum of 500 words. (If you don't have a program that counts words for you, you can find a generator here: Word Count )
- If you want to show off your submission, please don't post it until after the contest (or only show it to a few friends, if you must)!
- Only completed applications will be considered (all fields must be filled).
- PLEASE RESPOND TO BOTH PROMPTS. Do not choose only one prompt and respond to it. Respond to BOTH of them!
- Write about yourself in these prompts! Do not write about your hypothetical kid!
- The flat price for any seedling won through writing contest is 10,000 gold (to be paid in pure, items, etc...or by payment plans agreed to by Chiaku)

Miscellaneous Notes:
After you've made your submission, Elemental Spirits will confirm your entry form by sending you a unique ID number. No one will know this number but you and Chiaku (please keep it in a safe place and remember it)! During the judging you will be identified by this ID number and the winners will be announced by ID number, not their Gaia username. This is to assure the most objective judging so that particular names don't influence decisions.

40% Creativity
20% Proper Grammar/Spelling/Style/Etc. (in English)
30% Overall Impression
5% Participation/Activity in Thread
5% Prior History with Elemental Spirits (posted in mini-shop or RP)

We're interested about YOU, not your child (yet)!

(Note: It is advised that you consult the various resources found in the Elemental Spirits Guild as you apply. This is not necessary or required, but it may help you to develop a more appealing application.)

You are required to respond to both prompts, not just one. Your responses should be about you and your RP character, not about the hypothetical child you will receive.

Application Form for Elemental Spirits Writing Contest

Physical Description of Character: (This is about you!)
Personality of Character: (This is also about you!)

Prompt #1: Describe a particular event, scene, or memory that involves your character (it should be written in third-person perspective). This "short story" should reveal some specific traits or background of your character. It should be just a clip and not necessarily a fleshed-out story.

Prompt #2: Write a short piece that is a first-person perspective regarding children in general (not necessarily fae children or a particular fae child). This should be your character contemplating their thoughts regarding children within themselves (i.e., "I always wanted a child...and I wanted to name him Vic. Children are so happy. Etc." wink .

1. My response to the prompt is one word over the limit! Am I disqualified?
No. We will be lenient to a certain extent. However, if your prompt runs way over the limit (50+), that is not acceptable.

2. Can I get my friend to submit an entry for me or can I submit an entry and then give the prize to my friend?
No. You must write the prompt yourself and the prize will be awarded only to the person with the best entry (this is a writing contest to discover good writers after all x_x). Even if you'll be "out of town" or something at the time the contest ends, the contest runs for 2 weeks and you should have some time to submit something yourself.

3. What kind of things do you like that might not be listed in the rules or entry form?
We like creativity and uniqueness the most. :3 This means that we don't necessarily favor contestants who want their children to grow up and be perfect citizens...Wouldn't it be totally cool to have someone want their kid to be a minion of evil!? ...Well...maybe not...but it would at least be something different.

4. Can I make a new character for this contest if I already have one in the RP?
Nope. You're valuable as you are in the RP and we definitely need you for your current position. Just do your best with the character you've already made.

5. Is this based on characters that you made up? Or based on our own characters.
This is based on characters I've made... sweatdrop Elemental Spirits doesn't offer custom children except through pet trades... However, the writing prompts are specficially so I can learn about the different characters and decide which will be most interesting master for this new child.

6. Do the prompt length restrictions also apply to the physical description and personality?
No. Prompt length only applies to the two "essay" questions that are given at the end of the entry form. surprised

7. Do I have to respond to both prompts?
YES! Please respond to BOTH prompts (this means you will be submitting two "short essays" when you turn in your application)!

8. Am I supposed to be describing and talking about my kid in the prompts?
No. These prompts should be about YOU, the parent! Not your kid. Please write about YOU, not the kid!
