DISCLAIMER: Banner made by Who Cut The Cheese, inspired by Red Scully's Emoticon Rape Clinic.

Welcome to the Gaia Argument Hospital, a small hospital society of Gaians working to help make your life here in the discussion forums better. Have you ever been in an argument where you just know you're right, but you somehow think that the other person has a point also? Have you ever been in a discussion/argument where the person you are arguing with is swearing in leet/chatspeak and using emoticon rape? Are you having trouble arguing reasonably? Do you just want to read on? If so, then go ahead, and read on. We try our best to help make your forum discussion time more enjoyable.</center>

Red Scully
I think your idea is brilliant! It's like a "How to" for the ED or even in real life debates. xd

You may certainly use my material and my name or what have you. Do you want any help in your clinic? I have family over for the week so I won't be on much, but after that I can certainly help (but then in a little bit final exsams are coming up too; Gah!).

Post Two: What would be clarified as "Unreasonable Discussion"?:

When someone is arguing or discussing something unreasonably, they are most commonly found:

-Posting with ALL CAPS
-Using profanity (swearing directly at someone)
Which is also against the ToS.
-Emoticon Raping: scream scream scream scream scream scream stressed stressed stressed domokun domokun scream
-Not being able to think properly, thus arguing without nessasarily giving any reason to back up their argument

Yes, those are clarified as "Unreasonable Discussion".
Post Three: Examples of Unreasonable Discussion:

Here in my little corner of examples, I have collected several unreasonable posts. I will not include the poster's name, though, because I respect their need to give off a 'good impression'. >__>

Some Unreasonable Discussioner Once
Some Gaian Once
Some Unreasonable Discussioner Once
k first thing
wtf is all this about

why don't you try reading before you post...saves you from looking like a dumb ******** 1 whats your ******** problem man. 2. what the hell is this doing in a gaia community disscusion. It should be in chatterbox. or ect.

Now, let's see here. The unreasonable discussioner was asking a question. Yes, he shouldn't have been flamed, but it was kind of a dumb question to not read the first post and start asking what a thread is all about. And look at the unreasonable discussioner's post:

k 1 whats your ******** problem man. 2. what the hell is this doing in a gaia community disscusion. It should be in the chatterbox. or ect.

Not to be a spelling/grammar whore, but really, it makes my brain hurt when someone cusses/back-flames someone else using bad spelling and/or grammar. So, I fixed it up:

K 1. What's your ********] problem, man? 2. What the hell is this doing in Gaia Community Discussion? It should be in the chatterbox, or etc.

So, once again, we have ourselves a little unreasonable discussioner.

And no, discussioner is not a word.
Post Four: Why we need to argue/discuss reasonably:

1. If you don't, it makes you look like a noob. And no one wants to talk like a noob.
2. It'll do a lot of good for your character.
3. People will like you a lot better, if they don't already. 3nodding
4. People will support your causes, donate to your quests, and give your minishop bumps. <3 (In my fantasy, anyway)
5. It's better than discussing unreasonably. >.>
Post Five: How do I argue reasonably?:

1. Be Punctual. Don't forget the extra commas, periods, exclaimation marks, question marks, and more.

2. Don't post in all caps. You don't know HOW ANNOYING IT GETS SOMETIMES.

3. If you absolutely have to argue or go against another Gaian's posts, be sure to back up your reasons with a theory or fact.

4. Be nice, and don't emoticon-rape.

5. Remember that being calm and cool is also one of the best ways to earn respect.
Post Six: How should I react to unreasonable discussion?:

If you see someone arguing unreasonably, tell them (in a calm and polite tone) to protest/argue/discuss reasonably. If they continue to argue unreasonably, try to stay calm and cool. The least thing we need is a bunch of flamers and back-flamers. Remember, it takes two posts to start a forum fire - a post that flames and a post that flames back.
Post Seven: The difference between a discussion and an argument:

Sorry, but the data pinkroses sent me are now lost because I hadn't made backup copies. gonk Post Seven is delayed for now.
Post Eight: Calming Excercises:

If you absolutely cannot argue reasonably or cannot control yourself because some one is discussing unreasonably, try some of our Calming Excercises.

1. Breathe in, breathe out
Take a deep breath, hold it for 4 seconds, and breathe out.

2. Drink Tea
In China, tea is known to calm people down.

3. Listen to Music
When I'm fustrated, I turn on Ciara or Good Charlotte and it calms me down. Music is great for a calm excercise.

4. Visual Excercises
Imagine a waterfall. If this is impossible, then go on google.ca and search waterful music, listen to it, and try to visualize a waterfall.

"Emoticon usage like this: " 3nodding heart ", where the entire post is only one or two Emoticons is acceptable, because it acts as words. This technique works well when responding to statement/opinion/movement threads/comments. Where would it not be acceptable? In a 'read and response' thread. If the topic is about politics or even just two characters from a TV show " scream scream " doesn't add much to the discussion."
