I. Introduction to the Series

Once upon a midnight dreary, a thief named Jing was weak and weary.
Many strange and forgotten lands he did transverse and did explore.
His companion was a bird, an odd one name of Kir
Who possessed a strange vocation, a less than honest occupation.
"Wake up, Jing" Kir muttered, "all around is loot galore!"

Thus this ebony bird's willing, changed Jing's sadness into willing
As he set about to do the thing he truly did adore.
So the albatross sat proudly on Jing's placid bust sang loudly
While his beady eyes explored the treasure stacked upon the floor.
One more thing that Kir did utter, his feathers all a greedy flutter
And his voice commenced a terrible dull roar,
Quoth the albatross, "Let's steal some more!"

-Bottle 3, Jing: King of Bandits - Twilight Tales.

All that glitters...
Even the stars
All things precious...
Even your life

The King of Bandits
Can steal it all
In the blink of an eye

IV. Character Bios

  • Jing
The "main character" of the series, also known as the "King of Bandits". He is a person known for traveling through cities and countries with one goal in mind - to get his hands on the prize treasure. From transporting explosive critters to escaping a prison of dreams, Jing can do everything...and anything, as long as there's something to steal.
  • Kir
Jing's sidekick from his childhood days, this little feisty bird loves to drink and hit on ladies. When he's sober, however, he becomes the weapon used in Jing's signature "Kir Royale." Loud-mouthed and at times, annoying...what better companion could the King of Bandits wish for?

Volume-specific characters coming...when I get the chance to re-read stuff. @.@
V. About the Mangaka
(rehashed from Tokyopop's site)

Yuichi Kumakura's Jing was first published in April, 1995 in Kodansha's monthly comic magazine, Bonbon. The Jing manga has inspired a brand new anime series from Sony, which began running in Japan in May, 2002. Kumakura-sensei is now at work on an all-new version of the Jing saga, featuring more European-style artwork. Currently to date, Oudorobou Jing is Kumakura-sensei's only work, and has been running since Nov, 1995.
