Avatar Talk has changed. We can't ignore it.

There have been frequent complaints of trolls, flamers and stereotypical "n00bs".

We're getting sick of the utter lack of manners.

We have lost some of our cherished Avatar Talk members, turned off by the way things have gotten.

But leaving will not solve anything. Leaving is giving into the bad apples.

We keep on complaining about everything thats wrong with AT these days. We review distasteful threads and users over and over, but what have we done to change anything?

Its time for action AT.

Its time to make some changes.

Remember back when AT was truly a place you were proud to call you home. A place for friends to gather for a chat about our outfits. A place where everything seemed to be more pleasent.

We'll never get the old AT back, but we can move on with our past ideals into a new era.

An era where we can get along, ignore the trolls and work as a forum united.

The Unity Talk went beautifully. There was tons of discussion and brilliant ideas. Thank you to everyone who participated.
The newsletter will be out later then Saturday, we're going to take the time to make it good instead if rushing it.

There will be a Unity Talk for those on the mule's friendslist. The topic will be: What problems do you want solved in AT and what can AT Unity do for AT? This is to get feedback and brainstorm. This is the first in a series of Unity Talks, future ones will be open to everyone. These are ment to be intelligent, mature, and peaceful talks. Mule friends will be PMed the link.
It will start at 9pm eastern time.
For other time zones:
Central: 8:00
Mountain: 7:00
Pacific: 6:00
Alaska: 5:00
The first newsletter will be released the following day.

Our rates are of a simple and neutral variety.

If you ask for a rate, you will be given a pro and a con about your outfit.

You may help each other at will.

Our official raters are:

Do not ask to be an official rater. Active AT Unity Project members will be asked.

When Asking For A Rate
[+]Specify whether you are cosplaying as a character so you can be marked accordingly.
[+]Always be polite, a 'please' and 'thank you' can go a long way.
[+]Do not get mad over your rate if its low, its the raters opinion.
[+]Its ok to respond with "I did this because.." but not "well too bad! I think it looks cool" etc.
[+]Do not rate the rater back if they did not ask for it.
[+]Do not ask to be rated in someone elses 'rate me' thread unless they say you can.
[+]Take the time to read the first post(s) of rating threads and use codewords if you're asked to.
[+]5/10 is not a bad rating.
[+]In the end, your avatar is yours, and if you're happy with it, thats all that matters.

When Rating Others
[+]Always give a pros and cons, not just one or the other.
[+]Do not deduct marks based on your personal animosity towards certain items.
[+]Rate everyone equally, no matter who they are.
[+]If you're told its a cosplay outfit, take that into consideration.
[+]Even if you really don't like it, that doesn't give you permission to be rude.
[+]Overall look should be priority.
[+]Blending>Exact matching
[+]Do not be overly nice or overly mean. Polite is a key word. Be honest.
[+]Always give reasons.
[+]Give suggestions if you find something wrong with it.
[+]If you can think of a suggestion, you shouldn't be giving it a 10.

For Everyone
[+]Be polite.
[+]Try your best to use proper spelling and grammar.

Our policy about flaming is simple, ignore it.

Flamers/trolls usually just want attention, so don't give it to them.

You may be annoyed and angry but things will only escalate if you flame them right back.

When someone comes in flaming, someone retaliates, then someone else, and it just grows leading to arguements. If you simply ignore it to begin with, this won't happen.

This also means not starting flaming or provoking it.

Every forum has their trolls, AT is not unique in this. We just have to learn to work around them.

So next time you have a rate me thread and someone comes in and starts being unnecasarily rude, don't reply to them. Do not acknowledge them in any way. Keep yourself happy.

Our goal is to get us behaving repectfully and intelligently. We fully encourage having fun, but don't ruin it for others.

This includes not:
[+]Flaming.
[+]Being rude.
[+]Insulting others.
[+]Being disrespectful.
[+]Disregarding the rules of any thread.
[+]Being ignorant.

Remember, when you're rude it only makes you look stupid.

Please do:
[+]Respect yourself and others.
[+]Try to get along with others.
[+]Be kind.
[+]Be helpful.
[+]Be polite.
[+]Remember that we're all equals.
[+]Enjoy yourselves while in the AT!

Remember that repect does not mean just being nice for the sake of being nice, it means listening to others and be considerate to their ideas and opinions, even if you don't agree

Simple attitude changes could greatly improve AT as a whole, so why not give it a shot?

[+]Dealing with Elitism[+]
This is an issue that comes up time and time again. People are accused of elitism whether they consider themselves "elitists" or not.

Try and realize that we are equals. There are some people that have been on longer, but that doesn't make them better. They may be more knowledgable, so listen to them. Do not automatically think they're elitists because they're older users.

Do not mistake friendship for elitism. Users that have been in the AT a long time have made friends.

If you're one of the oldbies, try not to treat newer users like scum, its not fair to them and it looks bad on you. If they're having trouble fitting in, politely guide them in the right direction. If they happen to be a "n00b" ignore them and move on. Save yourself the trouble.

And to everyone, don't feel pressured to give high rates to regulars and oldbies. They deserve honesty just as much as anyone else.
This also means, don't give them specifically low rates. Equality is key.

[+]Take the time to read all the posts before you post here for the first time, inform yourself.

[+]You may chat and hangout in here. But, please do not post links to threads/users that have gotten on your nerves. But, feel free to talk about problems you're having and how to solve them.

We will use this list to keep track of how many users support us. Exactly who is on the list will be confedential. This way you can support us without openly getting involved, as we know some people prefer to do.

If you want to be an active member, thats your choice! Just post here, spread the word of AT Unity, keep a banner in your sig, show your support however you want.

How is this different from threads such as DARE, or the AT stickies?
DARE deals mostly with rating, and the stickies deal mostly with rating and contest. Here at the AT Unity Project, we deal with current issues in the AT, new rating ideas, and simply getting along with one another.

How will this help get rid of trolls?
It won't. We can't get rid of them. But, we can try to ignore them so that they do not receive the flames that they want.

How can I help?
Pay attention to our ideas and carry them out while in the AT and supporting our thread. Opportunities will arise as times goes on for you to help.

We can't reach everyone, we can't turn the entire forum into a community of hippies ( xd ) but we can damn well try and change some people.

Who can define what will be "success" for us anyway? Even if we were to only change the attitude of a few people, wouldn't that still be something? And the fact is that right now we have plenty of support, newer people as well as older people. I can't divulge names, but theres a fair share of everyone.
