.: Month by Month: Gaia in Roleplay :.

To have a look at the finished events and leave criticism and suggestions, please look here:
http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/index.php?gmode=index&guild_id=8789

I came to the conclusion that the first post didn't look right, and so have re-done it. All of the old information is here, so don't fret.

I am a roleplayer at heart, and have always wished that Gaia's events were more roleplay based. I created a thread in the old Questions and Feedback forum suggesting that the admins write more detailed posts, including descriptions of surroundings and a small bit of information about the thought processes of individual NPCs.

However, VO made an appearance and said it was unlikely, suggesting instead that we write the previous storyline up in more detail, for those new users who missed the events themselves.

VO
Dear Seth,

The reason we do not present storylines in the manner you're suggesting is because the medium we are working in is based on a forum-driven, realtime, internet based site.

As such, NPC's on our site are treated like any other user on our site. The dialogue between Gambino and the Von Helsons are much like the dialogue you and I are having right now. Of course, NPCs benefit from the fact that they are able to emote more than a regular user(changes in graphics, own threads, etc).

While I respect what you are trying to do, it's unlikely that we will change that for forum-based events.

At the same time, there are instances where we may expand more upon the storyline in NPC journals(see Gambino's journal for example, LabTechs, etc). It really depends on what the event happening is.

As for the other literary buffs on our site, I wouldn't be the only to say that we'd love to see some kind of storyline writeup using dialogue and events from past events through today's events.

A lot of people missed out on stuff like the Halloween G-Corp storyline and the Olympics race, etc. It would be very cool to see some different takes on the same events with extra details added. I think many users would appreciate it.

If you guys have time, feel free to write something up. The more accurate to the actual events, the better. Who knows? Maybe we'll dedicate a part of our site to showcase your talents as it would definitely be useful to get other less-familiar users up to date with the current storylines.

Hope that clears things up.

Take care and best wishes! 3nodding

Gelmax was with me at the time, and so we have taken it upon ourselves to manage this huge task. Of course we cannot expect to do it alone, and have already recruited several other literate Gaians to aid us in our quest. Anyone is welcome to join; all we ask is that you have some previous experience.

-

What is this thread for? Well, we'll be using it to keep track of which events are being covered by which writers, and also using it to store all of the posts as they are written. This way we'll all be able to criticize one another, as well as ensuring that none of our posts are contradictory. It is also a place for us all to congregate when discussing the task.

The next few posts detail who is helping us, what events they are covering, the recommended style of posting, and links to resources that will be useful when it comes to researching the events themselves.

-

If this is in the wrong forum, I'm sorry, and a moderator may feel free to move it. We were unsure where to put it, and this seemed like the best place.

-

Please note that our roleplay adaptation of the Gaian storyline is based on events that have taken place here. For this reason, some of the dialogue may be very similar, or in some cases identical, to those that were written by Gaia Staff to ensure we stay as accurate as possible. All NPCs mentioned in this thread are under the ownership of Gaia.

A lot of hard work has gone into each and every one of our roleplay posts; please do not try to pass them off as your own.

If we're all going to be working together, I've come to the conclusion that we should all use the same formatting when it comes to writing our roleplays. That way, despite the work being from different authors, it will be much easier to compile.

Font Colours:
I personally like it when speech is written in colour, as it just looks nicer. Some NPCs have colours assigned to them by Gaia, and so we shall stick by those colours. However, for NPCs without colours, I think that everytime somebody involves an NPC, they should suggest a colour. If everybody else agrees with that colour, that becomes the colour represented with that NPC. In some cases, bold and italics may be used in place of colours.

Anna Corrine Von Helson - Light Blue

Marie Von Helson - Dark Red

Anna Corrine + Marie Von Helson - Bold

Johnny Gambino - Dark Orange

Gino - Orange

Ian - #663300

Sasha - #FF0099

Moira - Dark Blue

Edmund - Olive

Agatha - Purple

Rina - Green

Ruby - #CC0000

Peyo - #FF3300

Meredith - Dark Red

Leon - #999999

Vanessa - #3399CC

Cindy - #CC9999

LabTechX - Teal

The Easter Bunny - Indigo

Liam - Brown

Logan - #424242

LabTech123 - Medium Sea Green

Vanessa - Goldenrod

Sections:
This idea didn't occur to me until now, but if we each take an event, or assign several people to one event and allow them to work it out between them, it'll be easier to collect everything together at the end.

Questionmarks mark sections that may or may not be being worked on. gonk

-

Olympics 2k4 - Syril Starr?

G-Corp (Pre-Halloween 2k4) - Gelmax?

Halloween 2k4 - Seth/Whescha/LabTech 247 Roleplay - Seth Darkheart

Halloween 2k4 - Zombie Fight (Representation of users becoming Zombies) - Boxah?

Christmas 2k4 - Memai Shirosaki?

Anniversary Ball 2k5 - Seth Darkheart and Razbo (FINISHED! o_O with the exception of Razbo's NPC conversations?)

Easter 2k5 - Seth Darkheart (FINISHED!)

April Fool's 2k5 - Seth Darkheart (FINISHED!)

Summer 2k5 (Gino Returns) - Seth Darkheart (FINISHED!)

Gino Returns Part 2 - Seth Darkheart (FINISHED!)

Both April Fool's and Easter 2k5 may need to be rewritten depending on whether it is revealed that the tower falling was planned by Gambino or not. Maybe a bit of Gino Returns, too.

I would like to try to help with the story.

I have never helped with a collaborative work. I have worked on fanfiction, but that is the extent of my experience. ^^;
Sounds good. Looks like I ought to keep a list of those interested in this as well. Man, this thread's reserved posts are going to be SO cluttered, with my organizational talent...ah well.

As far as the average citizen of Gaia was concerned, the Von Helson sisters were a bit of a mystery. The riches and land that they had inherited from their father was no secret of course, Cindy Donovinh doing her best to keep all of Gaia up to speed with everything and anything she was able to uncover.

Despite their wealth and popularity amongst the people, Anna Corrine and Marie Von Helson were not renowned for their public appearances. Few had even caught a glimpse of them, and those who had done so were likely to have only seen them on television.

This in mind, people were stunned when the girls stepped out of their mansion on the 17th of February, 2005. Even more surprising was the sisters' intention; a public announcement. Stood side by side in front of a microphone and a podium, the crowd roared with anticipation, everyone and their mother talking amongst themselves of possible reasons behind their appearance.

Both girls coughed politely. It was an attempt to both clear their throats and calm the masses; there was no sense in them making a speech if nobody was going to be listening.

"I am Anna Corrine Von Helson..." the first said, running her right hand through her hair. Her voice was smooth and sickly sweet; a brilliant contrast to her sharp accent. From head to toe she was clad in a light blue material, glinting and shimmering in the sunlight, her dress clinging to her in all of the right places.

"...And I am Marie Von Helson." stated her sister, her sentence running on directly from Anna Corrine's. Though her accent was similar to that of her twin and their voices were in possession of the same qualities, Marie's seemed more hoarse; there was unquestionably a darker undertone, though a barely noticeable one. This darkness was reflected in her choice of outfit; blood red cloth streamed down off of her shoulders and from her waist, trailing out behind her and shadowing her movements.

"We are the Von Helson Sisters!" both girls called in unison, prompting the collected members of Gaia to cheer, applaud, and occasionally wolf whistle. Glancing at one another, a smirk spread across their faces; it was just too easy. Having waited a few moments for the crowd's excitement to die down once more, Anna Corrine leant forwards, closing the distance between the microphone and herself. Many men craned their necks in an attempt to get a better look, but found themselves on the receiving end of many a beating from their wives and girlfriends.

"We are hosting a magnificent event tomorrow night." she told the crowd, before drawing back again and straightening her dress.

"Durem. The Von Helson Mansion." continued her twin. "Be there."

Turning on the balls of their feet, the sisters retreated into their limousine amidst even more cries of joy from the Gaian public. They couldn't help but smile to themselves as they traveled back to their home; couldn't help but laugh gently to themselves as they drove past all of their new supporters. Everything was going according to plan...

The post above is a little something that I threw together this morning. It's meant to be what happened before the party that took place over the past few days. I couldn't think of any way for the sisters to directly refer to the party as Gaia's Second Anniversary, as I'm unsure what Gaia actually is, roleplay wise. If anyone can come up with a way around this, I'd be very grateful. My current plan is to ignore what the party was in celebration of in the roleplay itself, but title it "Gaia 2nd Anniversary", if that makes any sense.

Constructive criticsm is always welcome, as that's only a first draft. I'm hoping to be able to do something similar to all of the posts, though in some cases it may be better to combine posts here and there, change wording for effect and the like.

Hehe.

I think Gel's probably going to be in charge of the "memberslist". I'm even worse at keeping track of things than he is. xp

The night came, and Gaians flocked in their thousands to the Von Helson Mansion. Everybody was dressed up for the event, many people having spent all the gold they had to their name just so that they could feel that they were fitting in. Men in top hats linking arms with girls in tiaras flooded in through the large doors, their mouths wide open in awe as their eyes scanned over their beautiful surroundings.

Maybe it was the identical spiraling stairways with the blue velvet banisters and polished ivory rails. Maybe it was the platinum and diamond chandelier, bright and majestic over the center of the ballroom. Whatever it was, it was magic; everything in sight an elegant mix of money and style. Some people felt out of place in the Mansion, they themselves coming from quite poor backgrounds with little to their name. But for other people, the mansion was a reminder of home.

"I must say this place is pretty nice..." sighed Johnny K. Gambino as he stood in the doorway, memories of the time he was the most important man in Gaia swimming through his mind. "If only I had my mansion, I would be throwing this event myself..."

Though several months had passed since the destruction of his mansion, he was still somewhat torn up about it on the inside. He had lost everything he held dear to him, including his son. Of course, he and Gino had been re-united at Christmas, which was a blessing... But that didn't mean that his other troubles had faded away. With Gino at his side, he took a few steps further into the ballroom, before finding himself surrounded by fans. He couldn't believe his eyes or his ears. Apparently there still were people who loved him, even though he had no money.

It almost brought tears to his eyes. People were truly glad to see him, and even gladder still to see that his son was alive and.... Maybe not so well.

"How is your son, Mr Gambino?" was a question that he heard several times that night. He tried to ignore it the first couple of times, not really having any urge to discuss it with anyone. Unfortunately, his fans' persistence got the better of him, and he found himself answering them.

"Actually... Gino... well... look at him... he's lost his soul it seems. He does not even remember his own father. I don't know what to do with him anymore..." he whispered. The tears that he had been holding back began to well up behind his eyes, but he continued to resist. Several people had commented on how weak and powerless he was; he could hear them even over the comforting efforts of those closest to him. Crying at an event like this would simply be the final nail in his coffin. "But all of you... thank you for your kind words. It really lightens my heart."

Blinking rapidly, he continued to try and hold back, walking over towards the buffet table with his son and fans in tow. Whilst doing so he looked around the ballroom, at all of the people gathered in corners discussing the Von Helson sisters.

"As for these Von Helson sisters... BAH!" he suddenly exclaimed, stamping his foot. His entourage was still following him, so it wasn't as if he was talking to himself. "I knew their father. Count Vladimir Von Helson was a great man. If he knew what his daughters were up to, he'd be rolling in his grave."

The post above is another little something that I threw together this morning. It's meant to show Gambino's entrance, and the dialogue is taken from the "Gambino has arrived" thread at the party.

The next post will probably detail the Von Helson sister's entrance, and whatever comment it was that they made at the end of the aforementioned thread. Maybe a bit about G-Pins etc.

We're going to have to find some sort of collection of all the things that the NPCs said in the headers as well, as Cindy, Leon, Ian and everyone else is just as important to the storyline.

Again, criticsms and suggestions on a postcard, please.
Seth,

I, most likely, could come up with a story line from the Halloween event, to the Second GAIA Anniversary Ball. While I have been here since December 28, 2003, I haven't attended every single event (or payed attention) however the Halloween one, the Christmas Event, and then this event were the ones I payed attention too.

If you need a sample of my works, then just ask me via PM, and I would be more than glad to send you it, this would be a fun event. Who knows, maybe this might turn into a book one day, heh.

Three hours later, the music stopped abruptly. Confused by the recent turn of events, everyone present, Gambino and his followers included, turned their heads to the twin spiral staircases. Faraway footsteps barely reached the guests' ears, yet they all found themselves placed under a spell; all found themselves unwilling to break the silence, eagerly awaiting whoever was coming.

One Von Helson materialized at the top of each stairway, each giving a little wave. As before the crowd kicked back to life, screaming for autographs and articles of clothing, people pushing and shoving violently to get a little bit closer to the sisters; willing to do anything for just a small look at their beauty. As if the screams were inaudible, Anna Corrine and Marie descended the stairs gracefully, beaming from ear to ear. The smiles seemed false, as if the sisters were trying to hide their true facial expression, but only to those onlookers who were inspecting them closely. To anyone else, the Von Helsons were simply pleased to see such a crowd.

"Welcome to the REAL party!" Anna called, her voice effortlessly heard above the hustle and bustle of the party. Either she was wearing a microphone, or she had a very loud voice. Nobody chose to ask.

"Yes, we, the Von Helson sisters have arrived. Take as many photos as you wish." continued Marie, who had already reached the ballroom floor, and was busying herself with prime photograph opportunities.

Anna soon joined her, and walked directly to her side. It did not take long for the sisters to form what was soon to become their signature position, standing back to back. Nobody knew the reason behind it; perhaps they were trying to keep their eyes on as many areas of the mansion as possible; perhaps they were ensuring that the photographers caught their good sides. Having waited for the photographers to exhaust their films, the girl's continued their introduction. There was no need for them to talk as loudly, as the crowd's cries had died down.

"If you'll notice, we've managed to get people from all over Gaia to join us in this shindig." said Anna, waving her hand towards her right, indicating the large number of popular Gaians who had pulled themselves from their work to take part.

"So, get some drinks and start shaking your booties! We're handing out some great swank for all of you." said Maria, waving her hand towards her left, indicating a large pile of assorted gifts that had somehow remained un-noticed.

"Let's get this party started!" they screamed, clicking their fingers. The music started as suddenly as it had stopped, and everybody returned to their previous activities.

A quiet laughter began to leak from the girls' mouths, their smiles twisting diabolically into something else. Seeing all of the sheep congregating in their mansion filled them with something much akin to joy; it had been so easy to put their plan into action. If everything else was going to be this simple, they could see nothing that they would have to worry about.

"Soon, you'll all forget about that loser Gambino..." they whispered, their laughter growing in intensity. Yet nobody took notice, filled to the brim with ecstasy that they might receive a present from somebody so famous.
