.... =8/06/05= Man, I suck. Seriously. I guess I really just don't have what it takes to keep an art shop running. Thanks for your support, guys, and I'm so pleased that you liked my art enough to want to order, but I just can't keep up or find the energy to start again. So I'm gonna try my hand at this whole "auction" thing, just to see where to go from here. I'd like to think my art's impoved in the some odd 4 months since I last updated, and when I look at what I did here, I sort of cringe. TIME TO MOVE ON.

=3/26/05= So I've been on hiatus for more than a month now, and I've been feeling the pressure to reopen. I WILL OPEN AGAIN. I promise. I still have a crap load of other art to do, and I'd like to have my first auction before I open. I continue to practice with my tablet and I'm starting to really use it for what it's meant for, as opposed to using it like an over-glorified mouse. So. Yeah.
=2/04/05= I'm coming close to the end of my first set of commissions, and I'm satisfied with how much practice I've been getting. Thank you all for your business. The shop will be closed for a brief period while I finish some contest entries and gift art, but when I open again, all my art will be colored with my new tablet.
I've also added a gift art thread. Hang around, chat with me, and who knows? Maybe I'll give you something.
=1/28/05= OH WOW. My husband got me a new Intuoso 2 Wacom tablet! xd heart I'm so excited. After I finish up this first list, I'll be doing all my commissions with the tablet. Prices will remain the same, however. WHEEEEE TABLET.
=1/23/05=I'm having some problems with my current commission. It's sort of personal, but coloring is taking longer than usual. I can only hope the customer is patient and forgives me. I think after I finally clear off the list for the first time, I'll be taking my first break.
=1/15/05= Well, business is going pretty good. So far, the people commissioning me are friends and such...I hope strangers come along, see my art, and decide they'd like to buy some. I added some new link banners -- they're animated. I really need to come up with a way to fill those extra posts.
=1/12/05= After a lot of discussion with peers, I've nailed down a set price for my art...hopefully, it's acceptable. While I still feel the need to tweak some things around the shop, all the information that is needed has been posted, so there's no reason to stall any longer...my shop is open! Of course, I already had several spots reserved, so I only have one slot open currently. sweatdrop Still, keep watching and keep bumping! MAZELTOF.

....So, you made it to my shop. Welcome. My name is Ruevian, and I'll be your artist for the evening. As you could probably tell, I'm a bit new to this whole "art for monetary compensation" thing, even if it IS fake currency. So if our business relationship is a bit awkward, do forgive me -- I'm still such a newbie.

Why Shades of Grey? Though I've been a part of Gaia since November of 2003, the current look of my avatar is a fairly new theme -- black and grey. Also, the name is suitably pretentious enough to fool people into thinking I know what I'm doing.

But enough of that. Let's get to what you came here for. But first....rules.

RULES:

Please, don't beg. I can't stand begging.

Don't flame -- few people can do it well, and you aren't one of those few.

DON'T PM ME. All transactions should occur in the thread.

If the waiting list is full, wait until a slot is free to submit a request.

What You're Getting:
....My art style is heavily manga/anime inspired. I do realistically-proportioned portraits of avatars -- either a simple head shot/bust or a full body portrait, colored in a CGed-like style. ALL OF MY ART IS RESIZED TO FIT INTO THE 500x500 SIG LIMIT. *cough* So no resizing is neccesary.

The Process:
....To better understand the amount of effort it takes to create a finished product, I'll tell you a bit about how I work. My materials aren't anything professional or snazzy...white typing paper or sketch book paper, a cheap mechanical pencil and a black Uni-Ball VISION pen of the micro size for inking.

I scan the cleaned and inked line art into Photoshop 7, desaturate the colors, adjust brightness/contrast, and adjust the levels. This helps me clean up the lines and darken them for a uniform coloring job. Then, using a crap load of layers and the polygonal selection tool, I color the picture. For a background, I use any variety of the several brushes I've downloaded.

....Now, keep in mind that, depending on the complexity of the piece you're commissioning, I reserve the right to up the price a bit. For example, if your avatar is wearing an a** ton of black items and you want a black and white full body picture, I'd have to use more ink and time than usual, and thus I'd charge anywhere from 3300 to 4000. This also applies to requests that are more simple than others -- I'd be willing to drop the price a bit.

Prices ARE subject to change, and yes, you can haggle. It all depends on what I'm drawing. However, please don't b***h about the prices. You'll be promptly ignored if you do that -- I'm very flexible and there's no cause for you to be an a**.

I ACCEPT DONATION LETTERS AS PAYMENT BASED ON MID G.E.N. VALUE. For example, according to G.E.N, a Dec 04 letter goes from anywhere to 4 to 7k. So, I'd value the letter as 5k.

Art for Items:
....So, say you don't have any gold, but have a lot of items. Maybe you want to get rid of some items, but they just aren't selling in your shop. Well, I'd be willing to give you art for the following items:

....Yes, some of these items are more than the prices I have for pure gold commissions, but keep in mind your ability to haggle. I've been really wanting that shirt, for example, and I'd give you any combination of commissions that would equal the store price of said shirt. Also, for items that are less than the standard commission rate, combine some items to equal the pure gold. You see how it works?

....These are finished commissions for users, to give you an idea of how my art looks. I'll admit that there are a lot artists out there with more talent and experience than I, but I don't think I'm too bad. Every finished piece is one step closer to improvement.

So, the question now is....how do you commission something from me? Copy and paste the below code into your post and fill it out, posting it on this thread with a picture of the avatar you want drawn:

Say you want to order a full body color portrait with a background, but you have no idea what you want for the background. No problem! Thanks to the "Character Personality" section, I'll make one up based on what I think your avatar/YOU would like. As you can see from my samples, my backgrounds are surreal and not truly backgrounds so much as an incorporation of elements that match the avatar portrait.

On the other hand, let's say you have a very clear idea of what you want drawn -- pose, background, the works. Give me all the detail you think I'll need, and I'll do my best to make it exactly how you want it. For example, some people would want tattoos or piercings or a third eye on their avatar, but that isn't yet a possibility. Just add it to the "Unusual Features/Markings" section of your request.

Remember: THE MORE DETAIL YOU GIVE ME, THE MORE LIKELY THE FINISHED PRODUCT WILL BE WANT YOU WANT. If you barely give me anything to work on, don't be surprised if what I present to you isn't what you had in mind.

Then, once I PM you the finished piece, you can confirm the trade, and our business will be complete.

....So, every now and again, I wish someone would draw ME for a change. On a whim and with some hope, I've decided to post some outfits I like to wear on my avatar, and if you want to draw them -- regardless of your artistic talent -- I'd be as happy as a cop in a donut shop.

Regarding art trades -- I'm currently not accepting them at the moment unless I feel your skill is very, very awesome. Nothing personal.

....I want this thread to be a fun place for people to hang out in. So, occasionally, I'll draw gift art for people who regularly bump when I need it or those whom I feel just deserve something nice.

Also, if anyone feels like drawing ME gift art (whether it be of my avatar or something pixely), I'm all for that too. Check out the links to see the art!
