The pretty lightsaber Kel bought from Moonblossom's shop. [I should really get some personal practise in before the apprentice arrives!]

This is... ever so slightly surreal. I'll... type some more later, I guess. Now to work out how to load digital video into this thing. I think I have my Christmas Day tape somewhere.... And then I guess I should type something up about how I'm even writing in this thing.

25.12.04

Kel-chan had accepted the fact that it was going to be a mess, and no amount of cleaning would help, so why bother? She ran a hand through her tousled red hair and smiled fondly at the organised chaos that was her sitting room.

The most mess had to be around the two babies, Auriga and Althalus. The crippled Astra girl was giggling happily, her beloved plushie horse clutched tight in one arm and the small plastic horse-drawn sleigh in the other. Both items were being pushed around the room with the help of Alexandra, who was just as enthusiastic in her play. The little Guardian kit, although acting more grown up recently, had a red and white ribbon on her head and was having a lot of fun playing hide and seek amongst the mounds of wrapping paper. Auriga and Alex were the loudest pair in the room, though Kikaja and Ryshad arguing was almost there..

Althalus was looking slightly uncomfortable in his festive clothing, refusing to relinquish his bandana but submitting to the red dungarees. Stealth was on his shoulder, looking a warm bronzey-red colour, her tail latched around his neck. She'd obviously grown tired of the game they were playing earlier; Althalus was more interested in the multihued paper strewn around, the little chameleon-daemon changing colour after vibrant colour as she danced across the crackling mess. However now the little boy was absorbed in the small treasury box he'd been given. It was a child's toy, a wooden box with a large key to open and close it. After spending about ten minutes working out how to put the key in the lock, and refusing any help what so ever, the little Forgotten had finally unlocked the box. There was nothing inside, but now the baby was spending an absorbed half hour just opening and closing it.

There was a crash as Alexandra backed into the Christmas tree, sending the plastic baubles flying and the tree itself wobbling ominously. Kel-chan dashed over and steadied it, her Guardian frozen in place, her violet eyes matching Auriga's, large and scared.

"Hey! Don't worry, you two..." The woman knelt down to pick up the decorations, her face however stern. "But be more careful, okay? Play in the middle of the room."

"But middle of the room is all papered," Alex reasoned sweetly, her expression innocent. Auriga nodded vigorously, her brown curls bouncing; Kel-chan made a note to watch her more carefully. Her Guardian was obviously teaching the little girl all her artfulness.

"There's a simple solution! Why don't you," and Kel-chan finished hanging the last decoration and pointed at the pair, "and you, clear all the paper into the bin?"

Alexandra looked shifty but Auriga sighed, the little girl sitting back on her behind again. "Momma right, 'Lex," she said before picking up a big piece of paper in a chubby fist. Alex blinked.
"K... but Ralph help! We too little,"

"Hear that, Ralph? That's a good idea."

"In a certain light, perhaps," the tall Raimin said ironically, putting down his new book on the arm of the chair he'd been curled up in.

As the clearing up began, Kel-chan scooped up Althalus and went to sit down at her long-abandoned seat on the sofa. The little boy reached out his arms imploringly for his toy, but Kel caught his wrist and smiled at him.
"Hey! Why don't you - and Stealth - help me open my presents?" She waved a small package invitingly at him, and his eye was caught by the sparkly paper immediately. Kel laughed quietly and handed it to him, knowing that it was okay for him to hold it, as it was from Tiagra, and she always sent the most exquisite little dolls - in sturdy boxes. In the meantime she picked up a small envelope that hadarrived in the post the previous morning, taped to another, slightly larger envelope.

"From Lena-chan, huh?" She mused as she opened it carefully, noting the Durem postmark. Inside was a piece of paper. The woman's face froze in surprise as she read its content. Then she hurriedly opened the other envelope, and sure enough, inside were several official-looking papers and a small ID card.
"Um."

"What's up, Kel?" Samantha the Libre leapt lightly up onto the sofa, treading carefully past Althalus and amusing the distracted baby by dangling her fluffy tail across his shoulder. "You look like you're a bit.. confused."

"Ah. Well,um." The woman blinked again. "It appears... I've been chosen to be the guardian and mentor to a young apprentice. From... from the Gaian Jedi Academy."

"Jedi?" Sammie looked skeptical. "I thought there were only a few."

"Well, a new one is being transferred," and an idiotic grin spread across Kel-chan'sface as she waved the little piece of paper in the Libre's face.

"Cool!"

"Yup.. but it means we're - I'm - going to have to get this house ready for an eight-year-old child to live in. Eeep..." She looked around the still-messy living room, where patches of floor were appearing as the rubbish was removed by Ralph and his two not-so-eager helpers.

"Some Christmas present," Sammie blinked. But Kel-chan smiled widely.

"Isn't it just!"

Now for something completely different. Hmm....

After I received Lena's letter, a few things arrived in the post. The 29th in fact... I got delivery of this spiffy computer panel for one thing. It's installed in my dining room downstairs, because my room is a bit of a junk pile at the moment... hey, it's been the holidays. Give me a break.

After reading the instruction manual about a million times, and getting Sammie to help me, we worked it out and thus I am typing. Apparently I can recieve mail on this as well... hopefully I'll be getting notification of my new charge.

About that.
I haven't the foggiest idea what race or even what gender this apprentice will be... how am I supposed to prepare? I guess the child can stay in the spare room next to mine, but it's a bit of a glory hole as well, so busy busy I shall be.
And the child will be training to become a Jedi.
Another thing that came in the post was a brief description of the Academy's aim and a little of what it means to be a Jedi Knight. As far as I can work out, the passionate ones often turn to the Dark Side, and the calm ones to the Light... I would never wish anyone to become evil (and believe me, I've had enough moral dilemmas with that, what with all that Daniel and his 'shifters have introduced me to) but this means that I must be detached, even whilst being the caring guardian. It's a child for goodness sake! They need people to care for them.

Ah, this is getting no work done. I should get on... I must admit I had a few friends round last night for New Year's Eve, and am feeling... a little delicate this morning. But Auriga will be wanting to go outside for a 'walk' soon, and Althalus will get cranky if I don't feed him.

Here's hoping this New Year is full of great times and a harmonious family.
Yeah right.

I almost forgot about this computer, sitting way back in the corner. Well, in a way. The last few days have been rather busy - I've cleared out the entirety of theroom next to mine - which believe me took forever! - and have squished it into my garage, so there's no room for my Mini any more, but we all have to make sacrifices. xD After that I moved the spare bed into it, and made it a bit more homey, and then Ralph and I lugged this computer panel upstairs from the dining room. Hence I remembered to write in it...

Apart from that things have been rather quiet. I accessed a map of the Jedi Academy's whereabouts from this thing, and went on an explore. I found the Academy, which is a good thing... it just seems like an ordinary large building to me. However, I met a few guardians in the grounds, and Isaw Lena, who looked ever so different in her Jedi robes, I tell you that. I wonder if I should be teaching myself a hell of a lot more about the Jedi? Anyway Lena was there, and so were two actual apprentices, her little Nobu and another small girl. They were both the same race, a feline-looking one (which suits Lena, I guess).

When I came home I had another look at this piece of computer jun- panel. After many failed attempts I managed to call up a database on the races my new apprentice might be... Cathar, the feline one was called. And there's human as well, but have you seen a Twi'lek before? They're just...odd, but cool in a way. And Wookiees might look cute and fuzzy, but according to the database theycan rip your arms off if they're not happy. So now I'm a little apprehensive... ah well. Whatever race the child is, I'm up for anything. It will be nice having an older child in the house as well - having two under-threes is a bit stressful, to be quite honest.

So. I guess I should start swotting up on the Jedi religion and so on. I might give Lena a call as well... may the Force be with you.
(I have learned a few things.)

Aaah! My least favourite pasttime.... playing the waiting game. I hear Ralph and Sam muttering all the time about how I should be more patient... I guess I'm just not good at it. But hey.

The student's room is all ready, and I even went browsing for some of the useful droids - nothing caught my eye however. Perhaps he or she can pick something out useful for themselves. If it a Wookiee or Twi'lek, I'm going to have trouble even understanding them... I hope they know galactic Basic. The only other languages I know are dead ones... give me Latin or Egyptian or Greek and I'll be just fine!

I've been using these few days of calm to continue my studies - they dropped a little behind over Christmas. A post-grad dissertation needs a lot of concentration, and I'm going to find it tough when the new child arrives to study so much. Auriga and Althalus, being so young still, tend to sleep a lot and go to bed early...
Studying is also not helped by the fact that this week is full moon. Only the third month since I shifted... it's not getting any easier, not yet. Also walking round with white hair and red eyes makes my friends a little disconcerted. And it's tougher to think in English at this time too...

Ah well, enough of this. I am due to meet Daniel tonight out on the moors. We will run as wolves, and I guess I'll feel a lot more settled. And I'll be back to my normal hair colour tomorrow. Hurrah.
Night.

Almost forgot about this thing. No-one's been daring to come into this room, seeing as it's allneat and tidy - it's actually a little scary, seeing as the rest of my house has degenerated into a tip again. Butthis room does need air, else there will be a musty smell, and that's not the impression I want to make on this young Jedi.

Iwent searching around the shops last week; I found a shop run by Moonblossom that sells lightsabers, and she let me have a quick go with one... personally, I'm more used to a long sword or katana, but this thing is a lot lighter and so difficult to wield. I might get hold of one to practice with... maybe the apprentice and I could train together, whenever they arrive.

Alexandra grew since I typed in this last; now she's a bit of arebellious teenager. Ack. Hopefully the new student won't take after her - I can already see Auriga hanging on her every word... it's all going to go horribly wrong in my house, I can just tell xd

Ahwell, enough worrying and procrastinating. He or she will arrive when they arrive, no matter how much fretting I do.

Night!
