Name: Callix
Meaning: Greek for "beautiful" or "handsome"
Gender: Male
Personality:
A Fa'e's personality changes over time, even if the change is slight. Callix goes through these changes, and I have outlined them so you can see how he matures as he grows.
As a child, Callix is capricious and curious. He wants to know everything about everything, and will stick his nose into places where it doesn't really belong. 'Annoying' would be the perfect word. After being exposed to relationships, nothing will obsess him more. He will not understand exactly why he feels so inclined to ask, but he will have an undying fascination with relationships and love. He'd think nothing of interrupting a private moment between two lovers to ask a million questions. He doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'privacy', and would easily raid someone's closet, tear apart his or her room, or read a personal journal. In his mind, the knowledge vastly outweighs the approach. Who cares if he must ransack a room? He got what he needed.
He adores female attention, and will do the usual quirky things boys do (i.e. hurt themselves, beat on each other, etc.) to elicit giggles from the girls. If he does get the attention he craves, it'll boost his little ego more than it should be. If someone else gets all the female attention, he'd just up the ante. He wouldn't resort to true physical violence, however. He's a lover, not a fighter.
As a teenager, he's come to learn that love can be obtained in many ways, each unique to each individual. Thus, he has devised several different ways of approaching love. If someone desires a poet and lover, Callix will assume that role. If one wants a sexy fling, he'll play that part too. If he's at a party and someone drunk requests a tabletop dancer, he'd be first in line. Whatever it takes to get some desirable status among the Fa'e. He wants to be the one voted "Hottest Fa'e of 2005", or something equivalent.
He's very selfish at this stage, still unaware of how lucky he is. He also takes great pride in his appearance, wanting to be top-notch for any potential love interest. He'd spend hours in the bathroom just to get ready to walk out and get the morning paper. His bathroom is never short of hair gel, cologne and other personal care products. Such a pretty-boy...
After experiencing love and relationships, as a youth, Callix will realize his previous methods were grotesque. He will try and repent for all his wrongdoing. He realizes that his logic before this point was wrong, and there was more to life than physical desire. He now yearns for a real love, a long-lasting and fruitful relationship that
means something. He'll still be curious, but about how to treat women properly, gentlemanly conduct, manners, and so on. He feels pretty guilty about his "looseness", for lack of a better word.
But after he's over his mistakes, he'll try to be the best boyfriend/husband/whatever he can be. He becomes polite, courteous, and most of all, caring. He'd die for the woman he loves. His brain is finally mature enough to understand what he really wants, and will stop at nothing to go about it the correct way. Roses, candy, moonlight serenades...the works. She is his one and only, and will be treated like a queen to make amends for all his past actions.
[History]
European legend tells of sadistic, selfish monsters roaming the innocent countryside. Humans, going about their day-to-day lives, were the prey stalked by these creatures of the night. The Frenchmen called them "Incubus" - creatures which preyed on their women at night by drinking their energies. Many a tale had been passed down through generations about these disgusting beasts. Men had never physically seen one with his own eyes, but the women who survived had tales to tell indeed...
Incubi and their Sisters, the Succubi, were born without names. There was no need, as they never formed loving or lasting bonds with anyone. They, for all their knowledge, could not be hurt, heartbroken, or killed. They lived infinite, solitary lives, never needing to fear the pains of having a soul. One such Incubus, though, was an extraordinary case.
One day, without a name, family, or fear, one Incubus was doing what came naturally - stalking a young, beautiful woman. She was Irish, long red hair flowing in the wind as she cleaned her linens. He had been watching her for weeks, waiting for the most opportune time. He stalked no other woman during this time, his brethren calling him "obsessed". He dismissed these accusations with a casual air. He was only doing what they were born to do.
Thus, the Incubus had finally come upon his moment. In the dead of night, like a lion in the savanna, he crept up to the dreaming maiden's bed. There, standing over her unprotected form, fangs bared, his heart stopped.
...so innocent...
As the moonlight drifted through her open curtains, the silver waves landed upon her sleeping form. Encircled in this glowing halo, she appeared to him a goddess; one so pure, innocent and beautiful that for the first time in his life, he felt the flutter of a Lover's Heart within his chest. He had fallen in love.
Months passed without the Incubus disclosing his true form to his beloved, nor did she know of his existence. He stood by silently, protecting her from the cruel intentions of his Brothers. She went on about her life, completely unaware. Soon, he began to write her letters and poetry, delivering them in the safety of the moonlight. She read his endearing letters of affection and began to fall in love with him as well. She would call out to him,
"My love, why do you not show yourself to me?"
It pained him, but he could not show his grotesque form to her. Incubi and their Sisters were regarded as the most horrid forms of life. How could he scar her by showing himself to her? Soon, though, the pain grew too great.
The maiden sang peacefully at the edge of Dragon's Mouth Lake. Her hair floating in the wind as her voice carried across the water. The Incubus, his heart aflutter, cast his voice to her in a whisper. She listened, her heart soaring as his did. Finally, fear aside, he stepped forward into her vision. She turned to look upon the body of her lover...
She screamed. "A
demon?!" The pain in her heart and the fear in her soul drove her to madness. She quickly drown herself before her demonic admirer could stop her. Filled with sorrow and anger, the Incubus tore out his own heart, setting it afloat in the water next to the body of his love.
Appearance: Large white bat wings, a red heart-shaped tattoo near his left hip, alabaster skin.
Powers: The ability to charm women, very slight illusionary power, ability to speak French (which may or may not be a power)
How do the powers and your character relate back to your mythos? As stated in the links provided, Incubi could charm women. Thus, having an Incubus-based Fa'e, he would be able to charm women quite easily. (Though it does not always work.).
Incubi were said to be able to assume the form of a woman's closest male friend, husband, brother, etc. in order to get close to their victims. Callix isn't
that powerful, and can only create the illusion of a loved one. He cannot alter his body, but he can lead the victim to think he is someone else through facial manipulations. If the victim is strong-willed, then this power is useless. (If Callix were any more adept in this, we'd have a serious problem.)
Obviously, with wings, Callix can fly. He cannot travel long distances without stopping for a rest, but he can travel hundreds of yards in a single flight.
Why do you want a Fa'e?: Of course, in this section, you'll get a lot of, "Oh, I love the art!" and "The Fa'e are so beautiful/neat/cool/etc." Yeah, I agree with all of those, but I want my response to this to be more than that. Yes, the Fa'e community is a wonderful one, with Guardians who are friendly and helpful. I've never had a bad experience there. They were, truthfully, the first breedable I ever saw. I've been stalking and posting since Easter, when Faye grew into a child. I still have the thread book marked from that time.
I want a Fa'e for many reasons, most of which you'll see in most all of the entries you are to judge. I adore the art, (and am jealous of it to no end...
xd ) the mythology around which each Fa'e are based, the community and the stories. Yes, those are probably all going to be repeated many times. However, I have thought out how Callix would disrupt the Fa'e community, and how he'd interact with different Fa'e. I've role-played quite a bit in other threads, but having a Fa'e would truly test my skills. It's a challenge, one I would do anything to undertake.
I quit writing fan fiction for a few years now since I'm tired of using someone else's characters. The Fa'e are personal creations, and I want a Fa'e not only to love, but also to be my Muse. (Heh... a male Muse. *giggles*) I desperately want to get back into some serious writing, and having a Fa'e to write for would be a true blessing. I want to see Callix grow and change, and I want to have feedback on my story-writing skills. Callix would be so much fun to have and a wonderful reason to start writing seriously again.
+ After sending in my entry, I really scrapped my ideas about Callix's appearance. I really don't care what he looks like, as long as he's gorgeous.
3nodding (or he has red hair. <3 )
+ I know that "Calix" is the true spelling. Don't ask me where the extra 'l' came from. I guess I copied down the name incorrectly. But seeing his name with two 'l's' instead of one just grew on me, I guess. Interesting fact, no?
xd
+ Dragon's Mouth Lake is a lake in Ireland where the Irish God of Love, Aengus, fell in love with a swan maiden. n_n
